Chapter 42: Questions worth considering...
It was a beautiful Wednesday; with clear sky and pleasant weather. It was a day where staying indoors would be boring. There was sports day happening in the college and a lot of students were taking part in it. So naturally classes were mostly canceled. So after spending time in computer lab along with few others, Nishant and Shradha were bored. Shradha suggested that they all could go for a movie. Since it was a Wednesday, tickets were cheaper and they could watch the new action movie that was released recently. The suggestion was unanimously accepted and they all headed out for the nearest mall.
One of the best memories of college for most of us, is bunking classes and watching movies with a bunch of people. The experience is unique because in every group there will be one person who is funny, who whistles and shouts the best comments in movies. That person has the ability to make everyone laugh even during an intense scene. For Nishant, who had recently decided to be little reckless, this was the first time experiencing this group activity. He was obviously sitting with Shradha, but on his other side was this guy - Kamal, who was king of comments. So within the first 15 minutes of the movie, Nishant had concluded that this was going to be one hell of a movie; only because of Kamal. Shradha liked the fact that Nishant was enjoying himself and she felt proud of him ever since he had told her about taking things lightly in life. She observed Nishant's face for a while and she was smiling even after turning towards the screen. Nisha was sitting on the right side of Shradha and he clearly had seen the look on her face.
"Nishant seemed to have changed a lot this semester. " Nisha whispered.
Shradha smiled and nodded at Nisha before replying "Of course! It was high time for him to start enjoying life!"
"It seems like someone is behind this change! Tell me, how does it feel to date the intelligent guy of our class! He is even cute and caring!"
"What makes you think that I am dating him?" although Shradha had heard rumours about them and also many people had asked her personally. But it still felt weird every time the topic came up.
"Oh come on. You guys are together all the time! He waits for you before entering college and you wait for him even if he has that Lit club meetings. And there are clear changes in both of your behaviour which is obviously the influence of each other's thoughts. You do everything like a couple! So how hard is it for us to guess ?"
"But we are really not dating. He is my best friend and I do care about him. I am sure its the same for him. I really don't understand why people do not understand this concept! It's not just couples who care about each other, you know! Best friends can have the same affect on your life."
"Hmm.. But it looks like you guys could be more than friends. I mean his looks are not bad; in fact you can say above average and he seems like someone with a bright future. So even if you are not dating right now, why don't you try it in the future. I mean it's worth considering. "
This girl obviously had a good point. Even if she tried to look for a guy, Shradha would not possibly find someone as good as Nishant. This one single dialogue created havoc in Shradha's mind. ' Do they really look compatible? Can they ever be more than friends? Does she want this relationship to be special? Does Nishant also think about all of this ? would he want to explore the options of dating? What would happen if one day Nishant did ask her out? ' A lot of questions were running in her mind.
Sensing that Shradha probably did not want to discuss further about this, Nisha just concluded the topic by saying, "I mean it's just my suggestion. You don't have to answer me or even think about all of this. I just blabbered some nonsense. Don't take it personally! Lets just watch the movie"
But now that the question was raised, there was no way Shradha could not think about it. After dwelling for good amount of time, Shradha decided that she better enjoy the movie now and she had all the time in the world to think about her and Nishant.
After the movie, they all ate at a darshini near the college. There was still a lot of time to kill and no one wanted to go home early. Surprisingly Nishant suggested to go for a ride in the outskirts of the city. The weather was perfect for a long ride and Most of them had their 2 wheelers with them and it was a convenient way of travelling in the city considering the traffic. So everyone instantly agreed to this idea and they decided on a route together.
Once again, Nishant regretted not doing something like this before. They all had rode their bikes together laughing, taking pictures and teasing each other. They had even raced for a brief amount of time. They bought snacks on the way and found a small hill outside the city where they could sit and enjoy the weather. They even played music and danced for a bit. Everyone decided to head back only after sunset. They bid goodbye near the college and then went home. It was the perfect day according to Nishant.
Shradha had to drop Nisha off at her home since it was on the way. So they did not go together but Shradha had said she will call him once she reached home.
When Nishant entered his home, he was still thinking about the good time he had and his face reflected those thoughts with a smile. He did not notice the atmosphere inside and he called Shradha right away to ask if she had reached home safely. Just when he was speaking on the call and was walking towards his room, he heard an angry voice of his mother.
"Nishant, stop talking to Shradha and explain something to us !" Sheela hardly raised her voice when it came to Nishant. So he was puzzled to see her angry. He ended the call with Shradha and walked towards the sofa where his parents were sitting.
"Mom, dad, what happened. What do you need me to explain."
