Chapter 4: The end
"to where? '
"Canada, we leave at 6 pm"
"Okay boss." He kisses my forehead and falls asleep.
I bury my head on his torso, taking in his scent until I fall asleep myself.
I woke up to an empty bed. I check my phone to see its almost time. I need to see dad before his flight otherwise he will go ballistic on me. Its times like this that I hate being the only child.
I took a quick shower and got dressed. I found a note on the fridge. Nate is out to get us breakfast, but I can't stay, I send him a text apologizing for bailing on him once again.
I got home dad just finished getting dress looking as dashing as ever. He takes me into a hug.
By the look of it, everything was in the car, Elise followed shortly after him. They got in the care I waved them goodbye and they drove away.
I made a few calls at the office and asked the vice president to take my place for a few days while my dad is away and if he has any question to check with my dad.
I spent the rest of the day getting ready for my grand escape. When the time came, I take one last look at the house where I was raised. I smiled and locked the door and drove away.
"Goodbye old life, welcome new one" I smiled.
When I got there Nate was already waiting for me, leaning on his car.
"ready to get the hell out of here,"
"whenever you are. I will follow you anywhere you take me."
We got in the car and drove away. Ready to start on our new journey.
For the first two hours, we sang our hearts out to Ed Sheeran. And we were perfectly out of key, but that only made it more fun. Then we stopped to eat and kept driving right after.
I don't remember when I fell asleep. I woke up saw him looking so focused on the road. Giving him a good nights kiss I went back to sleep.
Then suddenly I felt someone shaking me awake and I hit my head on the car.
"I love you." He mutters with teary eyes.
Then everything went black.
When I open my eyes again, I was in a strange place and Nate was right beside me.
"thank God, it's just a nightmare." I hug him tightly. "but where are we? When did we get there?"
He gave me a weak smile and cup my face. "We got into an accident, I was driving when I lost control of the car and we got hurt pretty bad." He explained caressing my face.
"you mean we're dead?" I asked him confused.
"no, not really."
"then what are we doing here?"
"I've read about this, but I never thought it was true until now." He answered looking all around the place.
"we're right in between death and life. Which means we got hurt pretty bad." He explained and take me into his arms.
"If what you're saying is true then why are you so calm?
"Because you're here with me." He kisses my forehead.
"Nate, why do I feel like I'm being sucked into another dimension." I start panicking unable to put what I'm feeling into words.
"Nate, what's happening to me," I asked again.
"that's your body waking up, it means you'll be back to consciousness anytime now." He turned his back to me but I can hear his voice broke as he said it.
"that's good, right?"
"Just promise me you will never forget about me". He answered with tears falling down his face.
"that's good, right? Unless. Wait. You feel it too right?" I asked panicking.
He shakes his head in response. "no, not a thing."
"Oh no this Is not happening," I burst into tears realizing what's happening.
"baby, it's okay," he wipes my tears away.
"no Nate, it's not okay this is all my fault. I dragged you into this mess. Please, God." I collapse to the ground.
"I'm so sorry. Please forgive me, baby. I should've never dragged you into this. If only I had listened to my dad, you would be at home perfectly fine." I sob.
"baby, listen this is nobody's fault okay? Those 2 years have been the best of my life and it's all because of you. Love guided us here and I don't regret any second of it, I don't want you to either because it was epic. So what if we didn't get the cliché happy ending?"
He kisses me and the feeling got stronger.
"please let me stay with you, "I begged
"How can you ask me such thing baby. I can't do that to you and your family. Go out there and be the woman I know you were meant to be.
know that I'm at peace," he kisses me deeply one last time.
"it was pleasure loving you Lana Xavier." and he disappeared.
I open my eyes and look around I am attached to a machine with a bandage around my head.
I close my eyes feeling the tears strolling down my face.
"the pleasure was all mine, Nathaniel Lawson."
