Chapter 2: Chapter 2

My respiratory system has stopped working for a good minute, I can feel the food fighting with my throat to get down. I drink the glass of water next to me and try to sound as calm as possible.

"what are you talking about? " I finally bring myself to ask.

"don't tell me that such a beautiful young girl like you who has so much to offer don't have a boyfriend. " She smiles,

Poor Elise, she's always trying to ease the tension but always manages to use the wrong questions or remarks each time.

"sorry to deceive you but I really don't, but thank you for asking me."

I can feel my father's eyes on me, carefully listening to each and every word that comes out of my mouth.

"so, dad how did the deal go?" I asked changing the subject.

"well, I admit it wasn't an easy one but when I told him what you have in consideration for the estate, he decided to give it a chance." He answered proudly.

"that's great, congratulations to the both of you." Elise complimented.

Poor Elise she's a Greek beauty but that's as far as it goes. I wouldn't go as far as to say she's brainless but she's somewhere in that category.

The rest of dinner was spent talking about dad's plan for the company and about their marriage aka "the marriage of the year".

I got home too tired to take off my clothes and went straight to bed.

Nate and I didn't meet for the rest of the week. To avoid causing suspicion. I can tell that dad is not buying all my cheap excuses and if I'm not careful he will find out about us.

The week went by uneventful just work and more work. Today is Sunday. Sundays in our family are sacred. It's the only day we spend the day together doing fun family activities. All our close friends and family are invited today it's the last Sunday before dad's marriage to Elise.

Elise is by the pool talking about God knows what with my aunts, the dads are in another corner. The children are playing in the garden. My cousins are in my room shopping for what they want in my closet as usual.

I take a sip from the glass of wine in my hand and try to avoid any form of possible conversation nervously waiting for the day to go by so I can finally see my baby.

"Lana please answer honestly, he's a solid ten right," my older cousin, Michaela, asked approaching me with a magazine and the rest of the girls following shortly behind her.

"and there goes my peace," I whispered underneath my breath.

"let's see," I smiled and look where her finger is pointing.

There he is Nathaniel Lawson coming out of the gym. As if he is a living work of art created by the gods and sold to the highest bidder. His shirtless torso was exposed to the camera, well-toned and muscular body, His abdominals are sculptured to perfection, his broad shoulders glistening with sweat. He looks like he had just walked out of an Armani magazine.

"he's okay, "I brushed it off.

"okay?" she repeated. "he's a Greek God," she exclaimed and took the magazine back.

"and he's also a Lawson," her little sister, Anna, reminded her. "we're not to mix with those kinds of people, right Lana?"

"ehm...ehm." Was all that I could manage to say to her question which rendered me speechless.

"we don't choose who we fall in love with," Samantha answered from the back where she was listening to the conversation up until now.

"can you believe this one kissed our gardener's son." Anna says looking at her cousin with disgust. "she's trying to pollute the family bloodline ." She resumed.

Samantha ran back to my room with tears in her eyes.

"Anna, that was an uncalled vile thing of you to say." I look at her surprised by her terrible words.

"You're always taking her side. She isn't a child who needs to be defended." She walked away.

I stand there stunned by what had just happened, Anna sounds exactly like my dad. There is no wonder to why she's his favorite.

Michaela gave me an apologetic smile and walked away.

It's clear to me now. I know what I have to do for myself.
