"Ha..." A young girl sighed while with-drawing money from the A.T.M making an unhappy expression. Then she hailed a cab and came to a small apartment. She pushed the door open and went inside.
"I've only got some money left in my bank account. Now with the rent paid, I can only afford food for a few more days…"the girl mumbled to herself.
This girl was Athena Silcia. She was 19 years old. She just graduated from a university on scholarship. But unfortunately, the Goddess of Fortune was against her, she had yet to find a job. She was an orphan but had an IQ of 180. She skipped many grades and graduated from one of the best universities. But she couldn't get a job. Not because she wasn't good enough, but because she was underage.
Athena rhythmically tapped on the door, thinking. Her long hair flowed down to her waist and her beautiful face with snow white skin made a person feel intoxicated. Though her dress was not expensive, it made her look like a fairy descended from Heaven.
But this girl couldn't find a place to work at, as weird as it may sound. She had been living off her uncle's money that he sent over every month and that made her feel useless. She thought that unless she could find a job ASAP, She would have to move to her uncle's place. This thought made her a little sad. She had lived in this city for years and not being able to stay here would be quite regrettable. Not to mention she didn't want to be a burden to her uncle.
"Okay! Let's do my best once again! I can do it!...probably" Athena tried to comfort herself before turning on the T.V.
----- 1 week later
"Ugh…I give up" Athena mumbled in exasperation.
Finding a job was harder than killing someone. She really couldn't find anywhere to work. Her monthly money had almost run out. If she couldn't find any job, she would have to move away.
Athena took out a box of instant noodles from her kitchen drawer and microwaved them. Then she sat on a sofa and turned on the old TV.
[Reporter]: "This is reporter X on point Y here to report some very unnatural happenings around the neighboring city. A sudden earthquake has hit the city. Many buildings have collapsed. The situation is out-of-hand and backup is being sent immediately. The coastal areas of the country have been flooded with water as a consequence of the earthquake. This event was unpredictable and scientists have no idea how this situation came to be...."
Then, a video played, showing the devastating scene of crashed buildings and heaps and heaps of stones.
This shocking news left Athena wide-eyed. Then, a wave of anxiousness flooded her emerald eyes. That city was where her uncle lived!
What was happening?
In her utmost confusion, she staggered to the table and reached out for her mobile and hurriedly dialed her uncle's number...
"Hello?"
A husky voice came from the other end.
"Uncle? This is Athena! Are you okay?! Is everything alright on your end? Where are you now?!" Athena asked anxiously.
"Oh, Thena. I'm out of country right now for a business trip. What's wrong? Did something happen? Did you use up your money?"
So he's out of country.... She sighed in relief.
"An earthquake and a flood occurred at your city and caused great damage, destroying multiple buildings! I was just worried..."
"What?!"
Her uncle screamed out.
"Thena dear, I may not be here, but your aunt is still there in the city!"
"Auntie is?!"
"Yes! Thena, my flight back is tomorrow, i can't hurry back. Why don't you quickly head over to X city to you aunt first, I'll be there by tomorrow."
"Okay, uncle."
Athena quickly picked up a bag and stuffed some things inside before running out to catch a bus to city X. The journey was about 5 hours long. She leaned against the seat and looked at the passing scenery outside the window, worry apparent in her jade eyes. 2 hours later, she fell asleep.
Screech-----
All of sudden, the moving bus came to a halt, waking the light sleeper Athena...
