As they drove down the road towards town, Carrie who hasn't said anything since what happened, stared out her window. 'Why is this happening? Did I deserve this? Why did this all happen a couple of days before my birthday.' she thought. She started to cry but quickly wiped her tears away.
No one spoke. Everyone was just shaken up about earlier. The girls face flashing in all their minds. Her blood that stained the car's seats and each of their clothes.
Carrie, who was tired of the silence spoke. "She deserved better..." she looked down. "You two do as well.."
"Stop it. Its going to be okay." Mike said putting his hand on her shoulder. He looked at her worried. 'It isn't your fault. The girl turned.' He sat back. Leaning against the seat.
"Well lets just forget about it until the cops question us." John looked at them. "Okay?" 'We don't need them to question us about all this.' He tighten his hands around the wheel. 'Let's hope we don't fuck this up!'
"Yeah..." Mike answered as he stared out the window. 'I hope I don't puke.'
Carrie looked madly at John. She just rolled her eyes and looked out the window again. 'There was no use to argue.' She pulled on her tights.
"I wonder why all this is happening? Why people are trying to eat one another. Its like out of some video game or movie..." Mike said watching the trees pass by. 'Hopefully we all are drugged or something...' He wiped the tears from his eyes before anyone noticed.
"I don't believe it! Its nonsense! This is the real world." John said not taking his eyes off the road. "Now stop with these make believe stories!" He glared at Mike through the rear-view mirror.
"Fine...." Mike looked out the window wishing to say something but he was too scared of John.
"So?" Carrie looked at John. "That makes more hella sense than your 'real world' thing." she said angrily at him. "Just because you may not believe it doesn't mean its not true. Its better then nothing."
"Well I don't care!" John looked at Carrie. "The un-dead are not real! Deal with it!"
"JOHN WATCH OUT!" Mikes says as he sees a deer jumps in front of their truck.
John turns. Inches away from the deer. He falls in the ditch almost hitting a tree. The truck stops.
"Everyone okay?" John says examining everyone.
"Yes..." Carrie gets out of the truck slamming the door.
"Carrie what on earth are you doing?" John says watching her.
"Walking!" she yells at him as she starts to walk away from the vehicle.
John and Mike get out.
"Carrie come on. We need to think" John says as he watches her walk back.
"Fine." she crosses her arms.
"I don't think the truck can get out." John walks over to the truck. "Yep knew it. The ditch is too deep." he walks back to them. "So we walk now to town." he begins to walk but Mike says something.
"Maybe we could go back and see if anybody lives in the farmhouse a little down that way" Mike points towards the way of the airport.
"Yeah that's dumb." John says rolling his eyes.
Carrie sighs. "Look John. Maybe Mike is right. It is getting dark and we wont be in the town until way later." she pleaded.
John sighed. "Fine.." He looks at Mike. "Where did you see this farmhouse?"
A couple minutes later they were walking the way they came. They needed to find this farmhouse. Soon it would be dark. But as they all waked down the road they notice a car that wasn't there before.
"That's weird" John says looking at the vehicle.
"Yeah. This car was not here before." Carrie says looking inside the car. It looked empty.
"Someone must be around" John said looking around.
"John the keys are still in the keyhole." Mike said opening the driver side. When he does a odor starts to fill the air.
"Ah! What is that?" Carrie says covering her nose. "Its awful" She looks inside the car but this time in the backseat. She suddenly screams and runs away from the car. She starts to puke.
Mike and John give each other worried looks. They quickly run to where Carrie was and see a little baby in a car seat. It was of course dead. It looked like something or someone took chucks out of its little frame.
John pushes Mike out of the way. "Okay lets keep moving." He acted tough but inside he was freaking out. 'Maybe they were right about all this' he thought.
"How....what..." Mike looked at the ground. "Who would be so cruel to such a innocent thing." he too was scared. All he wanted to do was be home. With his family. 'Please oh please let this be a dream' he sighed.
As Mike and John started walking again Carrie noticed something on the ground. She went to it. It was a blanket. She unfolded it and her eyes widen. The blanket had the same symbol as her jacket. 'Why did a babies blanket have this kind of thing on it.' she thought. Suddenly she saw something else under the car. She reached for it and saw a shot. She than realized the babies blanket and this shot both had the same symbol on her shirt. She felt something on her hand. She smelt it. "Gas?" she looked under the car. "Gas!" She walked away fast from the car.
John and Mike stopped and looked back at her.
"Lets go!" John shouted.
"Carrie come on!" Mike said as he wanted to move along.
Carrie shook her head. "Whatever. Its not important." She put the shot in her jacket and started to walk to them when gun shots were heard.
"Quickly everyone down!" John yelled.
They all fell to the ground. The gun shots were loud and close. Suddenly they stopped.
"Is it safe?" Mike asked John hoping this would be over.
"Yeah I think so" he said getting up. He looked over at Carrie. "Come on. Before whoever that was knows we are here"
Carrie shook her head and ran towards them so she could catch up.
As they walked no one spoke. The baby was still on their minds...
