"Recovering memory..."
Blackness, an eternal void. Nothingness at the precipice of everything, it blew through the floating body of a young Japanese nonbinary, cursed to float in the nihility of void. His eyes, glowing blue against the vacuum of dark, gazed emptily into the emptiness as his body gradually disintegrated into nothing but the same azure glow of energy his eyes gradually lost.
Where was he? He began to wonder, limbs fragmenting into nothingness, who was he?
"Danger incoming, shall I initiate countermeasures?" A voice called to him within the void.
Danger? Countermeasures?
He didn't understand, but if it would... if it could...
"Memory incomplete. Unable to restore."
Though Nocturnal supposed he couldn't complain, whatever that had occurred had granted him a level 838 body, he'd wished and hoped that he would be able to find out what had happened to bring him to this situation. He supposed it was those countermeasures that brought him to such a level.
Thanks to that though, he'd likely be able to hold his own in many situations, at least he hoped so, he didn't know the average level in the world he was in. He hoped he could find that little tidbit out soon, Nocturnal would need to know what level he'd need to get to in order to compare with the rest of the world. For example, he didn't know what levels his new acquaintances were. However, just as he thought about that, his AR screen showed their information for the two in front of him.

Oh, he supposed he was doing alright for the area then. With his mind at ease, he reminded himself where he was and that he had something to respond to.
"No, yes..." He couldn't remember what had been said last, so he backtracked a little to put the worrying lycanthropes at ease, "I'm absolutely fine. My name is Nocturnal, Nocturnal Amina."
Satisfied with his condition, the elder straightened herself back out, returning to her previous position. Humming in thought, she began nodding to herself, "With the name of the night."
He really was some prophesized being, wasn't he? Thrown out of his normal life and into the shoes of some game protagonist. Nocturnal wanted to cry from stress, praying to whatever gods this new world might have that this prophecy wasn't some kind of second coming or a battle against evil incarnate or something... Well, as much as he didn't want to know, there was only one way to find out, he had to ask. Steadying his emotions and steeling his resolve to fulfill his role, Nocturnal allowed himself a few breaths before he asked, "So, what is this prophecy about?"
By the pitying smile the woman gave him, it appeared that she finally realized that Nocturnal was completely ignorant to the reality of the situation. She was quick to delve into a short explanation for him, "The return of God. We know little more than that. A child of the stars shall fall from the skies, coated in divine markings from head to toe. With the name of the night and a soul, a spark with an aura incomparable shall mark the beginning of the Dawn Dragon's return."
The Dawn Dragon? He wondered to himself, was that the God she was talking about?
Of course, System was always there to answer his questions, "Answer. The Dawn Dragon is the creator of all things, it vanished after its Champion's demise."
Ah, that certainly wasn't great. Poor guy must have been torn up over its friend's death.
"Correction," System cut into his thoughts, "The Champion was one of the Dawn Dragon's soulmates and first lover."
"I see, and fulfilling that goal is why you want me to bring along...?" I paused, unsure of how to address the man.
"I am a warrior of the tribe, you may refer to me as bodyguard," The enchanting man told him, speaking up for the first time in a while as he bowed his head in u7something akin to embarrassment, perhaps for for raising it in the first place…? No, no, that wouldn't do.
"Could I give you a nickname? Bodyguard just seems a little..." Objectifying. It felt like he was robbing this man of a personal identity, even if Bodyguard was a name to him, it was no more than a job to Nocturnal. And to call someone by only one aspect of themselves… well, it couldn't hurt to at least ask about giving him a nickname.
The bodyguard lifted his head in surprise, before dropping it once again, hiding his expression from Nocturnal's gaze. "I- I would be most honored!" He exclaimed, voice barely holding in his excitement. Nocturnal could see his tail wagging, it was the most adorable thing he'd seen in a while, old world or new.
With a bright smile, he nodded to himself, already deciding on a name. "Then you shall be Karna!" He declared in his most official tone, placing a hand on his hip and brining the other to tilt the man's chin upwards, leaning closer to him, "From today onwards, we're friends. Okay?"
Eyes shining with a newborn devotion, Karna nodded,
"Understood!"
