"WE'RE GOING TO DIE!" Liam is running across the room screaming. "Dude calm down we're fine aren't we?" Elijah is trying to calm down Liam, Leah has already given me a knife she got in the kitchen, "We got this, how long are we gonna stay down here though?" A million thoughts run through my head. I already knew the time limit, but what were we going to do in that time? No internet, no board games, only each other.. I feel a little hot at thought. "Hey uh Ellie you good?" They all turn to look at me. "Well well Ellie, already thinking ahead aren't you?" Avery nudges me slightly and winks. It's like she knows what I'm thinking.. "Yep, you know what? Since we are going to be here for a week why don't we make it fun? Let's play some games." I turn to see Camila with the dogs they're licking her tears away. "Camila! What's wrong?" She look up at me with watery eyes, "Are we going to die?" She's the youngest she's obviously going to assume this, but it is a definite possibility. We can die, something could come through, radiation could seep through, anything can happen now. I try my phone, do plugs work? No they don't. I turn on my phone, nothing works. Maybe later in the week electricity will start back up or something like that at least. "Everyone, grab as many duct tape, planks, and nails as you can. Board up everything and anything." Avery seems to be the most quiet right now. "Hey, Avery, you good?" Avery just stays quiet. "She's probably in shock, I'm surprised that no one else is like her right now. An explosion just happened in the city." Reality sets in, this is no joke, we are in the middle of a bomb crisis. I feel tears dripping down my face as I realize the situation. We can die. "NOT TODAY FUCKERS." Gabby and Deirdre speak up, "We are not going to die not today, we are going to survive this, and hopefully our family will too. But right now we have to focus on ourselves and each other, to get our minds off the situation let's play a game." We all sit down on a bed (yes the beds are that big) and start. "Truth or dare? Really? The cliche middle school game?" Elijah groans, "Well I'm sorry but did you want to play goddamn 7 minutes in heaven instead?" Jacob replies. "No we shouldn't play a game we should proof the area and also decide where we are sleeping, then play a game after." We started arguing over whether we should play a game or not, "No let's check what food we have and lets see how long it will last since there are ten people here.." The arguing stopped and everybody agreed, my dogs are still curled up on the bed together, even though they kinda hate each other, like brother and sister. We checked how much food we brought, "If we ration it right it might last us a couple days, but not for 7 days. We're going to have to go out in the middle of the week." A silence spread across the room. "We'll do it." Gabby and Deirdre come up, "So will I." Camila speaks up, "I'm going too. No one else can come, not even you my babies. Liam and Jacob I trust you guys with my dogs since you are one of the only people beside Gabby and Deirdre who are coming with me who have a dog." Camila nudges me, "We aren't going now are we?" I pat her head, "No don't worry but we are going in two days. In any case, why don't we now play a game since that's done?"
So focused on the inside and where they were going, that they didn't notice Avery shaking and trembling in the corner.
