Chapter 1: Calpelle

Warmth.

Two boys were hastily making their way across the city of Calpelle, admist the daily hustle of the general public.

"Come on! We're gonna be late again if you can't keep up El!"

"Cut me some slack Fred! It was your fault for trying to milk a male goat! What did you grab onto anyway?"

Fred's face became red as a cherry with embarrassment. "All I know is that ol' man Gerald is going to make us clean up his house again for being late. That man makes a hell of a mess even though he lives alone!"

"Alright Fred, let's take the shortcut then." An evil grin spread across both our faces instantly.

They both jumped onto a nearby horsecart and started running across the rooftops. Ofcourse, it had some consequences, but they'd rather be eaten by a cow than clean the old sorcerer's hut again.

The city always had something interesting going on. In one part, the fruit vendors were squabbling amongst each other over the prices of Felugas, while in another, the crowd was busy bashing a pickpocket. It was an important trade centre after all, as it was the capital of Turga, a small nation in the East, known for it's Runes and Magical equipment.

Wizards, Shamans, Warlocks from all over the world used to come here for exquisite magical materials. On the outskirts, there was a small settlement of foragers and miners which provided the city it's goods in exchange for food and other necessities. An old sorcerer by the name of Gerald, taught young, talented children magic.

El and Fred had just enrolled into the old man's course because of their sheer curiousity and hunger, for knowledge. Gerald conducted his lessons in the forest, where he would patrol at night with other settlers, to catch deer and hogs for food. The Forest, was an ideal learning place for beginners as it had weak animals and monsters to train against, on the outer edges.

"Looks like we made it in the nick of time! The Capital Guard is going to be so mad though...", huffed Fred. Both of them were exhausted from the hour-long run across the entire city.

"I don't get why Gerald lost all his students though. It's just you and me who he teaches, and he still rambles on about the ethics of learning magic! He could've easily taught us how to fly by now"

Both of them burst into laughter. Flying, was one of the rarest skills in this world, where one needed to master the art of bending Air, completely. Taking one last snort, they walked into the clearing where Gerald was petting a toad.

He turned around to give the boys a cheerful look, "So my promising apprentices finally used their feet, huh? I'm quite surprised they're attached!", he giggled. "Today, I'm going to teach you about categories, and assign a basic element to you along with your very first weapon."

The boy's faces lit up in delight! They were finally getting to the good part of ol' man Gerald's training!

But something ashtonishing was about to occur soon. Quicker than one could expect.
