Chapter 10: IX- Drunk Night of Premonitions
He started to cry and I don't know what to say. I never expected that he will have a breakdown after getting all drunk and I can't even make out the words he was saying.
"Uhmm Shinobu-san are you going through something right now? Did you have a fight with that guy at the restaurant a while ago?"
"No... It's not... sorry I can't...Shinjiro always..it's not that I love...nobody understand..just 99% chance " his sentences seems to be missing a lot of words while crying and the only words I caught up was the name he just mentioned.
Shinjiro. Who is that man? Did they have a fight during their dinner at the restaurant? And what is it about the word love? Are they in that kind of relationship? Is Shinobu-san gay?
My thoughts keep getting chaotic the more questions pop out on my mind and so I unconsciously drink my glass of vodka I was avoiding to drink since the beginning and got another full glass of it.
My head start spinning and I can feel that my body is starting to burn hot so I grabbed Shinobu-san up from his seat and then throw a handful of cash in the table then leave.
Walking straight in the street with the influence of alcohol is very difficult but it twice harder when you are also carrying but maybe dragging is a better word to describe how I am holding Shinobu-san who is still crying while mumbling random words.
"Hey Shinobu-san tell me what is your address so I can take you there now."
"..."He didn't even reply and instead, he just stared at me as if he cannot understand what am I saying.
"Please tell me now.. before I also....ughhh" I started vomiting and I was lucky that there is a trashcan at the corner; a perfect place for a drunk to throw up.
Damn it. I swear that I will never take any type of liquor ever again.
I am trying to let it all out before I walk again but it's too hard, suddenly I feel someone caressing my back and I am shocked to see Shinobu-san standing straight behind me as if he was never drunk.
"I think I'm okay for now." I slowly stand up trying to act strong. "By the way can you give your address now."
"...." he still didn't say a word and just pulled out something from his pocket.
He handed me his I.D., wallet, keys, handkerchief, candies, a pen and some trash in other words, everything from his pocket.
I feel worried now knowing that he is an easy target for robbers when he is not sober.
I placed everything back to his pocket except the keys and the I.D. where I found his address. I started walking again while still dragging him who came back to being drunk again just after acting like a sober just a few moments ago. I called a taxi and I was lucky that his place is just a few minutes drive away from where we are.
It was a condominium, and his place is at the 18th floor of the building. We are almost there; that is what I thought but thanks to my unluckiness tonight, all the elevators were under maintenance for 3 hours due to a system failure.
I just wanted to lay on my bed and hug my pillow but I can't just leave Shinobu-san now who is already half sleeping- half crying on my back and so I have only two choices, it is either I wait for 3 hours for the elevators to work again or use the stairs...
I wanted to believe in the stamina and strength I have acquired during all the years I am working and so I decided to use the stairs up to 18th floor. At least I have the confidence that I can do it.
3... 7...9..14... just a little more..
My breath is getting heavier each step I take while carrying half of the body weight of another person.
16th floor....My knees are getting softer, all my confidence at the start are all gone.
17th... Just 1 set of stairs to go.
It took me almost half an hour to reach the last step of the 18th floor and my dizziness came back to me and urging me to throw up again but I have to stop it not until I safely bring Shinobu-san inside his room and go home. Just thinking about walking down the stairs again makes me teary eyed.
After a few more seconds, I finally found the door to his place after looking around and as I am about to use the key to open it, there was no key hole and just a security pin.
"Ahahahahha Kazuya-chan what are you doing with my key~?" Shinobu-san is fully awake now and started speaking again but he sounded so different almost like a kid.
"Sorry I thought that it was a key to your door." I handed it to him but he showed it back to my hands.
"You can have it~ Just be careful not to open my secrets for now.. hahaha." he walked pass by me and entered his pin to open the door then he pulled me in inside his home.
"Let's drink again~" he dashed in his kitchen and pulled a bottle of red wine from a cabinet.
"Sorry but I have to go now. You should also take a rest now." I started walking towards the door but he started running then blocked my way.
"No! I won't let you leave unless you drink with me." then he pouted and it is kind of cute.
"Eh! But We already drink together, and besides I don't think I can take it any longer, I'm already dizzy."
"But... but... I thought we are friends?" he looked at me with a puppy eyes and I can't take how cute he was while still pouting and I can feel my heart starting to pound in a weird way.
"Alright, but just one glass." in the end I lose from his cuteness.
He run to the kitchen while dragging me back then poured two glasses of wine. His eyes are sparkling as he give me the glass.
"Cheers~" he raised the wine glass and I have no choice but to go along with him. Maybe a glass of wine won't make my dizziness worse.
"Another one!~" he filled our glasses again.
"I told you that I will only drink one glass. I really have to go now." I only starting to get up but he started crying again like a kid who was rejected by his parents to buy the toy he wants.
"Okay.. alright, fine. I will drink it but this is really the last one so promise me."
"Promise." he immediately stop crying and smiled at me.
We drink at the same time but as I put down my glass, my lingering dizziness got worse and I wanted to throw up right away. I ran across the kitchen and found his bathroom at the corner and as I step inside everything went out. The bathroom floor, my face and my clothes, everything became a mess as I slowly kneel to the floor and blacked out.
Everything is dark when I opened my eyes and my whole body is in pain and I can't even move. I used my eyes to look around and I finally found a little light at the corner of the room as it was blocked by a person sitting in front of it.
It took me a few minutes to realize that it was Shinobu-san sitting in front of a table with a lampshade and it appears that he is writing something in a notebook... wait is that a diary? How can he still managed to write when he is also drunk like me....
Slowly, I fell asleep again while watching him and listening to sound of his pen while writing.
