Chapter 9: chapter 9 - Hope of the principal

Chapter 9

Daniel was seated on his new seat while thinking about what things he can do now and what things should be done first.

His current identity is of the captain of city guards. He is responsible for the protection of the city against any external threats. Although it is a position of power with no threat of invasion for a century made the people think it was an unnecessary group.

Over time the government of the city started to cut down the resources and supplies needed for the city guards on the ground that they can be used in other places for city's prosperity and just gave them bare minimum to survive.

The original fifty thousand guards are now just ten thousand and even they are a piece of wastes who only became one because they have nothing but else to do.

" Now I know why the old man said we will get scout report of possible invasion only six hours before their first impact. With the level of incompetence present in the guards, it will not be wrong to say that even the intelligence agencies would be in a state of peril under insufficient funding.

No matter what happens until and unless the state is in peril or under external threats, the governing bodies don't like to invest in the armed forces and intelligence.

Both of them are huge money swallowing organization which only show their worth in times of war. But in a place which hadn't suffered from external threats for nearly a century people develops a false sense of safety and believes that ' since nothing happened for so long, nothing will happen later.'

And this is their thoughts even when they Live in a dangerous place such as Solaris. I don't know what to do about the people.

To survive the people's thoughts should be changed and it needs some movements in the dark. And if my movement is too quick or anything went off the road, then those old foxes would hunt him down for disrupting their peace and trying to seize their power ." He grumbled.

" If I need to solve the state of the city along with protecting it from possible invasion, I would need at least 5 years time and even if I speed things up it will take 2 years.

With encouraging people in the dark to slowly seize back the resources for the guards and then get enough blackmail for those conniving politicians and force them to do things for us.

It seems like the old man has set me up to lose. I am in the center of one hell of a mess." He continues to think.of all the possible plans he could opt for as he doesn't want to accept the loss soon.

Back in the principal's office,

" His mind continues to surprise me, old man. He already guessed that you set him up to lose this round.

It is people like him who makes me feel the most threat. They all can change the entire course of the game in just a couple of moves when the victory is just around the corner." Lance said looking at the deduction skills of Daniel

" We are humans, not animals. Even before the day of the apocalypse, we managed to survive using our innovation and wisdom not just on brute power.

After that day the GE became an essential part of us and people started to think only power can triumph all obstacles and are forgetting their roots.

Yes, power can indeed blow off obstacles in the path but if you encounter an immovable and strong mountain where you cannot pass through and not lose the original path, what will you do Lance?" The principal asked his former student.

" I don't know I would move around the mountain ." He replied after some thoughts.

" Yes, it is one of the options too. Some would continue to force their way through, most would lose hope and won't do anything about it while others like you would try to move around them to pass the goal.

But not Daniel. I asked this question to him once. His reply was really something and in line with the using the greatest gift we humans possess. " He said laughing happily.

" Oh, and what did the brat say." He asked curiously.

" Just dig a tunnel through the mountain. It isn't difficult. Use an excavator or a digger and slowly create a hole big enough to pass through.

Why waste energy on moving an immovable object. We have to follow the path, not destroy everything in the path. So use your wisdom to think and then act."

" Dig a tunnel. Old man, you didn't say we could use machines in this question." Lance argued and thought how he made a fool of himself.

" Indeed I didn't say you can use machines but I haven't specified what things you can use and cannot use. You just went with the trend to use your power and since it didn't work decided to move around the mountain leaving the original path."

" But I did return to original path after moving around. I just deviated for a moment." He argued.

" And this is why you are stuck where you are now and cannot advance ahead. Truly powerful people don't move from their path to their last breath.

They will suffer in the initial route but with their abilities continue to head forward towards their goal. Young Daniel doesn't know what he is really skilled at. He dreams about being strong enough to protect his family and friends.

Although it might seem selfish it is an admirable dream but does he know what strength is really sufficient to protect the family.

For common people becoming a warrior is enough, for others master and grandmaster is enough while the city head thinks spirit or king is enough. While the ruler of a kingdom thinks that a warrior emperor will protect us.

But they forgot that we are at a complete disadvantage now. We have a lower number of emperor compared to the monster and this is when we don't include the water monsters.

We humans who once were the true masters of this planet has become a missionary at most. We are pushed back. The entire human settlement amounts for about 10 percent of the total land area on the planet and this too after a thousand year of effort.

And the water covers 70 percent of the planet. Now you see it Lance we stuck at 10 percent of the 30 percent of the entire planet area.

We are just prisoners. I really miss those days when we don't have to fear the monsters and deal with the possible extinction of mankind every day and just live our life without life threats. " He said while reminiscing the past.

Lance meanwhile let the old man be. The headmaster was one of the few humans alive who knew the world before the day of the apocalypse. He was a thousand-year-old monster.

" So do you really think that he can rise the humans from the threat of monsters?" Lance asked after sometime unsure about this absurd question he asked his teacher.

" No I don't know whether he could make us stand free from the suppression of the monsters but I know one thing that if he is allowed to grow and reach his peak, we may have a chance to get back half of the entire land area under human control." He replied back confidently
