Chapter 6: Shame

"The young master's parents saw that as he grew up, he became more violent towards animals. Late at night, he could find mice and bring them back to drink their blood. Once, he even brought a deer but never remembered it the next day. They knew his craving was getting stronger, and by then, they also knew he was a vampire. So One day, they called over a witch, and the witch cast a spell on the mansion. Once the young master's parents die, the whole mansion will stop its time. No one will age up, and the young master can never pass the fence in front of the mansion. They did this to protect him from humans and the humans from him. Ever since then, he could never age up or grow any taller than he is now. Only I could leave and come back."

So I can keep the mansion from starving. But... the curse has broken, the clocks now work again, and I think it was all because of you. You are a human who broke through the fence and caused the curse to break. The young master can grow older, but I am afraid that he can never die from natural causes. You are the first human I have ever seen to survive after his hunger. He drank your blood, but you didn't die. He even told me that my blood is very different from the others. I think he likes you," Carlton said while giving me a wink.

My face instantly became red in blush, and I closed my book. "S-so, anyway! Was Vincent stuck in the past? That's why the things he wears are so normal to him?" I asked, and Carlton nodded. "How did Vincent know he killed his parents if he remembers nothing the next day?" I continued to ask questions. "We had to tell him about what he did even if he didn't want to hear it," Carlton answered. He then pulled out a book from his coat. "I think it would be fair if you learned more about your time than his. This book is about your time—things like smartphones, HD TVs, robots, and more. I think you will enjoy it" He gave me the book as he got up and went off to clean the library. I sat there in thought while looking at the book. I started to read it, and it gave me so much information. I wanted to make lights work, computers, and phones too! I tried to practice this and learn how to do it every bit. Vincent might even like it.

I stood up and placed the book down. I ran to Vincent's room after seeing what time it was. I knocked on the door before walking in. I sat down next to the boy quietly. He looked at me. "U-um so.. How was your reading?" he asked me. I turned to him and his hands, pulling him closer. Our nose was very close to touching. "Your eyes are amazing, Vincent... Ever since I first saw them, I thought they were beautiful. They remind me of red rubies," he told him. His eyes widened as he looked at me, and he blushed even more with a slight smile. "You like the way I look?" he asked. I shook my head. "No, Vincent! I love the way you look! You're perfect the way you are, and I hope you never change! Please don't change," I begged. Vincent bit his lip as it was quivering like he wanted to cry. I started laughing and hugged him. "Aww, you're such a baby, Vincent~" I teased him. He hugged me back. "A-am not! I-I'm a grown man!" he confirmed, making me giggle even more.

"May we play castle now?" He asked me, and I nodded. "Yes, we may," I replied. He stood up, and so did it. He bowed, and I copied, "My name is Prince William from the kingdom of Duckling," Vincent said, playing as a prince. "I am Prince Charles from the kingdom of Vanilla" we both chuckled after hearing my kingdom's name. I coughed into my fist. "Ahem! How do you do, kind sir?" I asked, and he replied, "Just fine. How do you do?"

"I am quite well now that I get to see your race, of course," I smiled, and he looked away in embarrassment. I held my hand out to him. "I would like to take your hand in marriage," I asked him. Suddenly he was pushed away from Vincent by a maid who came in earlier to clean up without them knowing. "No! I'm sorry young master, but two boys are not allowed to marry each other! So you cannot accept his hand in marriage! Your father will be disappointed and wants you to marry a girl and have a child. Don't you remember young master?" she pleaded. Vincent frowned and looked down. "I know... I know... I know, okay?! We were playing... Please leave us alone on our play date," Vincent commanded her.

Vincent stared at me, and I looked away, feeling upset. Was it true that I was not allowed to marry Vincent for real..? Will he have to marry a woman? Just hearing this made my heart ache. I should not be so direct anymore. I stood up. "Sorry, Prince William. May I take your hand to ride in a carriage?" I asked. Vincent frowned, looking displeased with the change of question, but smiled anyway. "Of course," he replied. We pretended to go on a carriage ride around the mansion and continued to play. I always had fun with Vincent; there was no doubt about that. I love seeing how happy he is every day. I like seeing him flustered when I ask him embarrassing questions, and I like holding him in my arms at night while we sleep. I can never sleep alone in a big dark room, so Vincent allows me to sleep with him every night. When he is asleep, he looks just as innocent as when he is awake. He is too precious to me, and I won't be able to let him go. I am too attached to him now... But the maid... she made me feel ashamed to love him...
