Chapter 62: Fighting their way up
When the duo sign up on the ground floor they received badges that displayed their names, floor level and win/lose count.
Tral had been a little worried at first despite his vampiric strength as his cultivation level was low while his hand to hand combat had always been his weakest asset since he was predominantly skilled with weapons or overly reliant on his power but after signing up he found himself against ridiculously weak opponents who he accidentally killed his first enemy with a simple kick that caused his leg to cave the mans chest in which angered many but he apologized profusely to forfeit his win while Darick seeing this simply chest bumped his opponent right across the room when it came to his turn.
The judges decided that there was no point in them staying in that floor so immediately raised them to the tenth floor while issuing Tral a strike that warned if he killed unnecessarily he could get banned from the tower.
One the tenth floor Tral immediately received a challenge due to the kill from one of the veterans who didn't like what he had done but that man was beaten with ease when Tral grabbed his arm to swing the combatant into a wall across the room making sure that it wouldn't end in a death.
Darick proceeded to chest bump as many opponents as he could get to answer his challenge basically resorting to walking into people while they broke their hands on his body.
With a nod of approval the judge only let them face a few opponents before raising their level to twenty as this seemed like a common occurrence in the lower levels as there was little point in making those who clearly had no place stay at such a level.
It was on the twentieth floor that opponents were either skilled in combat or possessed decent enough strength to hold an actual fight but to their dismay Darick still didn't budge from attacks but simply pushed them as gently as possible out of the ring.
Tral on the other hand used the opportunity practice dodging and blocking before disabling his opponent with relative ease. This reminded him of the military combat training he went through as a child which many of these combatants seemed to have held similar training only to a much lesser degree.
Only one challenger could receive more then one move and that was only due to Tral playing around. The pair was able to move up to the twenty fifth floor after five wins due to their clear ability.
Many of the challengers on that floor saw them as a threat as they immediately challenged the new comers upon arrival only to become Tral's warm up and Darick's push over still while their skill and strength had greatly increased it was little use.
It was only on the thirtieth floor that Tral faced his first decent challenger who's strength was decent enough to matter little but held skills that made the fight last long enough to trade blows as he would be able to dodge or mitigate Tral's offensive while forcing Tral to actually practice his dodging since he didn't want anyone to land a blow on him so that the pair could continue to progress smoothly while training.
They kept at it no longer getting pushed ahead multiple floors until they had been at it for most of the day reaching floor thirty four when they were approached by suited business man with his long hair elegantly folded to keep it out of the way surrounded by two private guards on either side who acted very professional.
"Mr.X and Mr.Arave I have been watching your fights which have been quite entertaining despite the lack of proper opponents. You two seem to have quite the friendship so I wouldn't want to separate you so how about we go to my office to make a deal which I'm sure would benefit both parties?" The business man asked warmly which the two responded to follow him into the elevator.
As it ascended they had some time to talk "I have noticed that the two of you are at least somewhat cultivators although that doesn't seem to be the source of most of your strength, I know you must be wondering but we have quality scanners for these things for example I know that you Mr.Arave are of the vampiric variety which we have no prejudice against going so far as to provide our combatants like you full amnesty as we have obtained that right from the grace of the church."
The two look at each other before Tral responds in gratitude "I thank you for such an opportunity sir as my kind isn't appreciated in many places around the world. We brothers in arms have traveled far as your company has such allowances those like me."
The elevator stopped on the hundred and tenth floor which was really composed of ten floors itself to accommodate living quarters as well as offices for I-Game-Shiny officials.
They were lead to the man's office which had a stunning view of Kalsar which at first caused Tral to flinch as it was day time but he was quickly reassured that all the windows were specifically coated to remove the harmful solar rays.
"Now gentlemen I am Mr.Simic with the human resources department, I need you to understand that there are important rules for vampires within our company but I would also like to sponsor the both of you to work for me in exchange for various benefits such a salary as well as accommodations if that seems acceptable for the both of you I have the paperwork right here." Mr.Simic offers while gesturing to two binders on his desk.
Without either of them looking in the binders Darick speaks up "What exactly would be involved in working for you Mr.Simic as we would rather not be guards or hired thugs nor used to pump out vampires for your personal army."
The man laughs at this to explain with his smoith tongue "You have it all wrong Mr.X, I merely wish to sponsor you to fight in the tower while any other work would be separate from this as individual contracts that you have no obligation to agree to and as far as vampirism is concerned the turning process is deeply disallowed by the church as one of the conditions we strictly maintain while we do have away around that it truly involves a lot of paperwork requiring the consent of all involved."
He stopped to adjust his glasses as he sits in he chair before continuing "Speaking of vampires the general rules are as follows, No turning without explicit authorization,No ghouls of any kind, No feeding in or around the city without very well documented consent as blood will be provided to you as part of your food allowance or can be bought from registered sources and absolutely no killing outside of the ring as if you are caught then it is our responsibility to assist the church in your capture and or immediate extermination… I hope I have made this abundantly clear as failure to comply even a little is grounds for an inquisition cone smite those responsible which is you Mr.Arave."
Tral nods his head in agreement "I fully understand that your organization risks a lot to provide the privileges it does to those of the mystical persuasion and I have no intention of breaking any of those rules especially since you are so decent as to provide alternatives to cater to my needs".
This response causes Mr.Simic to smile and the duo quickly sign the paperwork that starts the sponsorship process.
"Now that I am your sponsor I can move you two up to the fiftieth floor tomorrow where I expect some wins to gain floors quickly. If you can reach the seventy fifth floor an a matter of days I am authorized to give you a cultivation method that is definitely better then the one you are using right now but there will be stiff competition so don't take all your opponents lightly as losses may cost you this opportunity." With this said Mr.Simic hands over swipe cards to a small apartment in a different building for them to say at until they can earn an accommodation within the tower.
