Chapter 51: Storm by the water

It was a stormy night over Desrosa, The thunder kept booming and the Inquisition pyre was still firing off into the sky. The church had long since run out of criminal occupants of the city to torch to ash so they had the military start importing criminals from all around the world to feed the fires.

This night though was worst then most, even with mages out in full force to mitigate the winds blowing in from the ocean this storm was only building with power. Mighty bolts of lighting striking rods throughout the city but mostly landing on the highest pole.

They had hooked that lightning rod up to absorb raw energy that was sent to power the cities electric grid as the pole itself was an advanced artifact that pulled and converted that wild power into something of use to the remaining people who controlled that hell hole of a city.

Attached near the top of that rod was an energized young man who despite not getting hurt by the lightning had spent too long ripped at by the wind and drenched by the rain.

As the storm reach its peak the lightning stopped falling yet stayed high in the air crackling in a medley of the maelstrom as if the sky would tear itself apart in a chaotic dance who's beauty matched it's terror.

Suddenly as if all the lighting got sucked into one point at the heart of the storm that even pulled in the light from the pyre before in an earth shattering crack it slammed down on this main spike which resulted in an electro magnetic pulse that shook the very foundation of the city shutting down all electronics permanently even going so far as to collapse sections of a few districts.

The main lighting rod had completely splintered into pieces, the prisoners collars and cages regardless of regular electric or mana powered all deactivated.

In the sudden darkness after an erie calm the previously well controlled city erupted into violence as everyone fought for their lives. The many power houses of the church and military held a clear advantage but the number of their opponents was staggering causing the streets to run red with blood and bodies.

As this new torrent of slaughter escalated people were fleeing in all directions. The military was stretched beyond reason trying to stop as many as possible but it was far to little to effect most of those especially since all the vehicles were disabled severely limiting their capabilities.

On the edge of town out of all the darkness a train heading north as well as a train heading south both roared to life. On board the northward train still crackling with lighting was the battered young man now wearing a military coat that was still covered in the blood of it's previous owner.

Around him was several criminals that were eager to be escape this horrible place. One of the bigger men laughed heartily " It was our good fortune for this storm, don't worry young man you can join my crew and we will be set once we put some ground between us and that pit. I have a hideout not far from here that has an underground tunnel set to take us right far away."

Many of the others cheered at this comment until the young man snapped his head to look at the man with an electrifying gaze before stating in a calm yet rapid manner his voice cracking from the rough conditions "I didn't just blow up a power grid to become some fools lacky. You all have three options… either join me in my goals to free more from the grips of the church or get the off my train or try your hand at handling the full power of a thunderstorm and I would in my expert opinion choose the first option."

The criminals were stunned by this before the first man spoke again while his fists gained a metallic shine "why you little brat, who do you think you are to make demands!"

The man yelled as his fist swung towards the electrified youths head but before it even got close a snap of lighting arced from the eyes of this ragged youth right into that fist stopping it dead as its owner has become.

The tough criminal didn't even drop as his feet had welded to the floor of the train. Most of the energy had dispersed after that strick but none of the other criminals even considered attacking anymore.

"Who do I think I am, an interesting query. I'm Arc Tesla the man who just saved your sorry asses from the grips of hell itself. Now unless anyone else wants to pointlessly play around mind telling me where this secret tunnel to freedom is so we can ditch this beacon of a train and more importantly does anyone have any coffee cause I would kill for some right about now?"
