Chapter 49: Cultivation story

Gè Míng went on to tell the tale of his sect and the reason his grandpa took him away to train him in seclusion.

"He would always talk about my father who I barely remember. He was a great man who lead our sect as the patriarch with no-one who could defeat him in battle. One day a church envoy came with a new disciple from one of the mountain tribes convincing my father to train him. Grandpa never said what the envoy promised that made my father except such a jerk but he was really strong with a lot of natural talent."

"This foreigner did nothing but train for several decades and my father did as he promised in teaching the man everything he knew about cultivation despite the jerk being far to cruel to properly practice our techniques. A few years after I was born he challenged my father to a battle to the death for the position of patriarch but although he was no match for my father in a fair fight the cheater brought a mighty weapon and dressed in impenetrable armor given to him by the church that just barely turned the tides in his favor letting him strike down the greatest leader of the Gè sect. My father didn't go down easily though as he left the bastard a deep wound across his face removing one of his eyes in the process!"

Tral and Darick were shocked at such a tale of grandeur offering their condolences for his lose but it seemed Gè Míng wasn't done yet.

"My grandfather flew into a rage at this betrayal and took me while slaughtering his way out of the sect with no-one loyal to the new leader able to stop him. I have never before or since been so afraid on my grandfather but that night he became a true fiend. After that he lost a lot of his previous gentle nature and became very strick to ensure that I would be strong enough to survive. We traveled far into the mountains to enter an old secluded training ground that the sect had kept hidden from the new comers. I think I was 3 at the time but from that day on my training was incredibly harsh… I can't go into details but grandpa said most people would have died" He proclaimed with pride.

Tral was definitely impressed amongst other things and Darick kept making glazes at his friend as if to tell him not to even think about trying to drink the kids blood but Tral asked the question anyway "Soo Gè Míng, your body must be super strong right? So anyway I could get a sample of your blood to trade you for some strength enhancing potions maybe?.. for science!".

Darick almost coughed at how direct his friend was being before punching him in the arm quite hard while Gè Míng just looked at Tral funny before replying "Grandpa says only enemies can draw the blood of a Gè so back off old dude unless you wanna fight about it."

Tral just start pouting "It's just a little science" before Darick punched him again. "No means no idiot."

"If you're done with your crazy old man stuff, I can continue with the story?" Gè Míngto asks to which Tral reluctantly agrees still interested in the tale.

"Ok so there I was doing the most epic intense training anyone has ever had EvEr for like years then somehow that raging jerk that killed my father finds us one day. He shows up with his seven disciples like the cheater he is and grandpa makes me have to escape by collapsing the tunnel… I wanted to help but there is no way I'm strong enough to beat him yet so I resolved myself to continue my family's training in the wild so that one day I can seek vengeance on those baddies!" Gè Míng claims with a righteous passion while puffing out his chest.

Darick sympathizes with him and reasures him that he will grow up to be big and strong but Tral speaks out about that "Harsh training will get you only so far, these enemies like the church will always cheat and abuse everything they can so you must do the same or more to beat them.. this righteousness will only lead to your weakness which they know how to use against you."

"Shit up Tr- Sal! He is just a kid so leave him be." Darick yells at Tral almost slipping his real name but Tral doesn't back down "No! The church won't back down so neither will I and neither should he. If he truly wants the vengeance he seeks then only by commiting to it fully by being willing to do anything will he really meet his goals."

The other two are shocked into silence by his outburst but Tral isn't done "If you want to know what real sacrifice to simply reach for a chance to fight the church is, then you can ask me when you get more serious then you have ever experienced. I've made sacrifices to do such a thing only to find out that they are never enough even when you sacrifice everything you have!"

After that outburst he simply opens the door of the moving truck and jumps out to start running faster then they were driving without care that it was still sunny out relying on the protection of his apparel.

As they see him slowly advancing ahead of them he pulls out a vial of red liquid to show them which causes Darick to shiver a bit which doesn't go unnoticed by Gè Míng.

"What's that he is doing, is he crazy?" the boy asks the still stunned Darick who seems to wake from his shock at what just transpired.

Darick sighed before explaining "He is just going through his own struggles… he recently paid a dear price for the power to fight the church himself which is what caused his health issues. That vial though is a very powerful potion he used on me to increase my strength but I could only survive due to my natural resilience so don't pay his teasing any mind. I'll talk to him later."

Gè Míng seemed very interested in this to astutely ask "So you two are fighting the church and their lackeys directly and Dr.Sal sacrificed his health for strength only find out it wasn't enough so now he is all sour puss right?"

Darick gave the kid a strange look before relying "You're very observant kid and yes that about sums it up but we still don't know if his sacrifice was worth it as we still have a lot of training to do till we are ready so I hope you see just how important dedication is. If you have high goals then you must place high expectations on yourself."
