Chapter 26: Who's the boss?
Meng Qin came rushing down the stairs to greet the group as well as to try to calm the other hunters down "Y-you're here so soon, please come as the boss would like to formalize this deal" he stammers before turning to the rest of the room "Sorry for the disturbance, you all know how eccentric clients are so if you lot want to keep working for the good money you'll leave the envoy's alone"
To this explanation the crowd quickly nods in understanding with a comments along the lines of "ooh they're price payers, crazy bastards" before going back to their own business.
A new bouncer quickly comes to replace the old one as he is dragged off to receive treatment.
Meng Qin shows the group upstairs to a well furnished office where a burly bald easterner with a thick dark beard sits behind a mahogany desk filling out paperwork.
As they enter he looks up and sighs "Well if it isn't the best and worst thing to happen to my organization since I started it"
"How you doing, you over grown potato?" Tral immediately asks "haven't seen you since… let me think… there was you and a priest aaaand a job specifically designed to trap us"
The man who the company is named after Riddick's face immediately drops "yes and as I remember you responded by water logging my ship, blew up my house and your sister ate the priest after disguising herself as the chair he was sitting on…"
Tral quickly retorts listing off on his fingers "I made the ship, earned you the money for the house and the priest shouldn't have been there"
They both stare hard at each other for a while before cracking a smile and both having a hard laugh.
"It's been a while you crazy kid. Those church monkeys don't pay fair anyway, I should have kept the golden goose instead of lusting after a pile of eggs" Riddick says heartily. "come in here and take a seat, I swear none of these chairs are shapeshifts as far as I know AHAHA have to tell clients that now. You wouldn't believe how many stay standing."
Tral immediately snaps his fingers making a couch in front of the desk (which is too big to take out of the room) before the gang sits down.
Arc clears his throat "Achem So your bullshitting aside I would like to get down to business. First off despite asking for body modification techniques, I would like to know more about specific individuals such as a man called Prudence who uses chakra in a most deadly fashion. Only then can we go over the nitty gritty details just as magical enchantments, spells or cultivation methods that we are also looking to acquire."
At the mention of Prudence, Riddick's face becomes very serious before he slowly speaks out "That man is incredibly dangerous, with little known about him other then the fact that he is often sent out to run errands for his 'master'. As far as I know they are members of one of the secretive southern sect, one of the few members that act as envoys for interacting with the church as the sect doesn't like to be involved in most worldly affairs."
"this sect also regulates the cultivation technics you speak off, regularly killing anyone who even appears to practice such methods, so I'm afraid I can't risk talking about or actively looking into those but if it is magical spells and body enhancements you seek then I would be more then happy to collect as much as money can buy for your reading pleasure" Riddick goes on adamantly.
Tral seems off put by those answers but the others nod their heads in understanding.
"well what about this-this wonder potion I've heard about that can 'open the third eye' to allow people to start cultivating even though they would still need a technique afterwords" Tral proclaims much to Riddicks surprise.
"I… don't know about that, though I can definitely check. There are some crazy drugs out there and if what you say is true it would be worth a fortune. Not that you have that problem but the concept new to me." Riddick states with a strange look on his face. "If you want some mind enhancing potions, there is always the Pixies Paradise in the red light district or that hell hole called Under the Bridge in the underground to find anything you could think of although can't you just make the stuff with your power?"
Gara laughs at this very vocally while Arc shakes his head "this buffoon can barely make basic chemicals like alcohol, I wouldn't trust him to synthesize penicillin"
"Hey what gives Arc? Do you want to go back into a headlock?" Tral rebukes trying to reach over Gara who casually shifts to block all his attempts while continuing "Arc is correct as usual, my idiot little brother ("we're the same age") would have to have the chemical composition memorized to do such a thing which we could add to the shopping list along with samples of various drugs that I'm sure Arc would love to run tests on"
Riddick looks like he is contemplating "ok then, I believe I have a general idea of all you are looking for but it is quite a bit and since money isn't an option.. Although I would need it up front, I would rather get you more data including everything we know about the recent activities of church operatives I'm sure you would also appreciate."
"so with that said, Tral if you wouldn't mind providing at least several tons of gold coin minted to different regions for better secrecy, I will get the hunters to quit their drinking and move out immediately." He states while gesturing towards a hidden door that leads down to his personal vault.
Tral snorts before going causally causing coins to spill messily around him as he walks over to the door proceeding to descend into the vault to finish the payment.
"Now Riddick darling, I'm sure you're used to casual threats from my brother but if you do happen to forget to properly take care of us, I assure you will never get a good nights sleep again least your bed decided to EAT YOU PIECE BY PAINFUL PIECE!" Gara warns while her face slowly turns from the peak of perfection to a gaustly nigh incomprehensible horror that would make a nightmares cry out in fear.
