Chapter 17: Into the fire

Tral and Darick got to the meeting point just outside the facility without any further trouble. It seemed like all the soldiers had left the facility.

Dusty was no where to be seen and not just because he be was invisible but because he was not there at all.

Tral and Darick looked around calling out from him at a fairly loud volume. "Hey you old hillbilly. Where the hell are you at?"

From behind them a lyrical voice "Are you planning on finding more trouble with all that racket?" Gara come out of a hallway with a large cooler in one hand and a smoke in the other.

"Sis! It's good to have you back. Things are getting weird here, how's your end?" Tral asked excitedly.

"Oh you know me.. I came, conquered and went shopping" She replied holding up the cooler showing its contents to Tral. "Damn sis.. you're just carrying around a head and a bunch of vials.. That's one hardcore shopping trip."

"What in the world is happening up here?" Gara gasped in surprise looking through the massive storm that was brewing over the facility as it looked like they were in the eye of a great tornado.

"Hidden Wind went insane screaming about Spades or something and seems to be set on destroying this town with a natural disaster" Tral explained in detail.

Gara shook her head and pointed at the sky not far away "Not that idiot, look over there past the storm front".

Floating in the sky on a large metal disk stood three military men as well as a tide up prisoner. Above them was a giant flaming hexagonal set of runes that seemed to be burned into the sky.

"Not good, that's Major Tomson and Ironclad up there. We have to get out of here" exclaimed Darick nervously.

"ok guys, we need to escape under the cover of the storm" decided Gara but as soon as the words left her mouth the magical hexagram condensed a huge amount of fire energy and unleased a mighty beam that scorched the sky heading directly into the heart of the chaotic ball of wind.

Soon the winds started to calm down as objects began to fall from the sky. An overwhelming voice spoke out through the silence that followed "Salvara Siblings, we have your talkative friend! I am General Warren Howard and by my authority I can only ensure your decent treatment if you surrender willingly." The voice belonged to the third military man dressed as a general.

This man was so huge he made Darick look skinny standing at over nine feet tall with arms and legs as thick as trees. His expression was solid and serious.

Surrounding the facility at a decent perimeter was a highly equipped army of over five thousand soldiers many of which operated magitech tanks or stood in formations of various magical or technical properties.

"Hey there ya ugly fat bastard, ya think you can just use people as ya will but ya are nothing but another ant at the bottom of the mountain of every day people" howled Dusty as his body started to expand ripping apart his bindings before turning invisible. He had taken an emergency pill that signalled the eventual end of his life.

Tral watched this with a sad expression on his face and muttered to himself "I'll give him a mountain for you" he then held out his arms concentrating as a great mountain appeared a hundred feet above the army. This mountain that would cover most of the area with the general at its center stood at five thousand feet tall of solid steel.

The immediate response of the major turning the runes towards the mountain above to open the gates to such a raging inferno that easily dwarfed the previous beam shot upwards blasting into the base of the mountain almost bringing it's decent to a full stop.

Soon after the army below also redirected most of their magitech tanks to unleash beams of destruction into the base of the mountain keeping it firmly sitting in the air with massive chunks of molten metal raining down but mostly defected either by magic shields or many soldiers using their innate powers together.

At this time General Warren suddenly received a flurry of blows out of nowhere but these several hits barely effected the general only causing him to take a step back before he grabbed something in the air with both arms.

After he did that a dozen smooth metal spears shot into the air around where the general grabbed revealing a hulked out Dusty who was now over eight feet tall and covered in muscles.

The soldier known as Ironclad used his power to violently retrieve the metal spears from the pin cushion that was now Dusty, reforming them into many bracelets along his arms. Ironclad was about six feet tall with dark grey skin looking slightly orcish who was covered in shiny metal piercings and spikes that moved at his will. His whole military uniform was covered in metal badges and plates.

While this transpires Tral quickly reacts during their distraction.

"Now let us flood away" Tral urged the others upon making a spherical escape pod. Once everyone got in the escape pod, a massive amount of water appeared everywhere between them and the army on the ground with only a smaller gap for them to be pushed towards.

As a great wall of water was made between the army and the group huddled in the now escaping pod as the massive waves pushed everything far way.

Now that the army was dealing with a torrent of water, the mountain continued to fall with the exception of the majors hellfire beam that seemed to be trying to split the very mountain in two.

The beams intensity continuously growing in power every second, evaporating the water around the platform in an increasing diameter as it swelled into a blinding light causing cracks to form all over the mountain with large cliffs of metal falling into the water full of soldiers.

A strange energy could be seen leaving General Warren's body and entering Major Tomson as he controlled the mighty pillar of fire as it tunneled it's way through the mountain above.

A great shattering crack was heard as the fire reached the critical point causing large quarters of the mountain to break away falling around the stationary platform.

A bead of sweat rolls down the Majors forehead as the fires go out being recollected into the runes floating above him before also going out.

"To think I could command such power with your help general, is quite astonishing" Major Tomson couldn't help but exclaim.

The General stared off into the distance where his prey escaped. "You did well major and now we know that we cannot hold back against them in the slightest.. although such a display of power only makes me want him more! Just think of the destruction I could unleash if he was made to make an arsenal of warheads!"

Around them on the ground thousands of soldiers lay dead. Crushed by metal or drowned by water with most of their tanks damaged beyond repair. Only the trained mages and powered were able to save some lives. An army of over five thousand heavily armored soldiers had been reduced to less then nine hundred survivors in a matter of minutes.
