Chapter 45: The Opus Family

It's been a couple days since the gala. Most of Atlas is aware of what happened that day as Ironwood had to give an explanation why the night sky turned into day.

Of course, some of the details were… obscured. Ironwood told the media that a flock of Nevermores attacked the gala and that a roaming huntsmen managed to destroy them all before disappearing.

After the gala, the Schnee family drastically changed over the days. Since Jacques was in the hospital indefinitely due to his 'unfortunate' injury, the Schnee family experienced a welcomed change.

Willow changed all the furniture around the house, giving it a more 'welcoming' vibe. With the house now feeling warm and inviting, they all started smiling more often.

Weiss, after a full medical exam, was glad that her body was perfectly fine. There was a point where she felt despressed about her scar and tried to hide away in her room but Magna wasn't having any of it.

He literally broke the door to her room down, after gaining permission of course, and comforted her until she no longer felt ashamed. It took alot of hugging and honeyed words but by the end of the day, she thanked him as her shattered confidence became whole again.

Winter changed the most as she was almost never without a smile on her face, at least when Magna was around. Whitley seemed to have taken what happened at the gala to heart as he strived to be a better brother to Weiss and Winter.

A small problem that wasn't really a problem was the fact that the Opus family managed to hear him when he introduced himself to Blake.

Speaking of Blake, Magna was dumbstruck when he met the final member of the future team RWBY. It surprised him that Blake showed up at the gala as that means that there was a chance that Blake and Weiss might've met if the circumstances were right, before there meeting at beacon.

Sadly, the faunus protesters were trespassing so Ironwood had to politely asked them to leave. Before Magna and Blake could get to know each other, Blake had already been escorted off the premises.

Anyway, back to the problem with the Opus family. They didn't demand anything from Magna as the current patriarch, Magna's grandfather, only asked if his daughter was still alive.

After telling him how his mother was doing, the kind old man tried to have Magna stay with them for a couple days, something that scared Magna a little bit.

It wasn't that they were horrible people or anything. It's just that at every given moment after learning that Magna was their relative, the entire Opus family tried to spoil him with gifts.

His two uncles, Maxwell and Silver, even brought him around their personal weapon forge and offered to build him ANY weapon he wanted. For shits and giggles, he jokingly told them that he wanted a scythe that transforms into a customizable, high-impact sniper rifle.

However, his joke flew right over their heads as they seriously started designing a weapon for him. He could only watch in abrupt horror as it only took them 2 hours to complete a rough design.

It looked scarily similar to Crescent Rose, Ruby's main weapon in the series, making Magna take a few steps back. He tried to get the men to stop but they practically ignored him as they whole-heartedly began working on the finer details.

Though his uncles were bad, they weren't the worst. His grandmother, a kind lady that doesn't look a day over 30, tried to spoil him the most. Because her two sons were, in her own words, 'Idiots so dense they would destroy the universe before finding a partner', Magna was their only grandchild.

So his grandmother, Anna, and his grandfather, Magus, tried to spoil him rotten. The good thing that Magna managed to take away from this was that he learned how the noble children became so… corrupt.

The nobles literally didn't know any restraint. if their child wanted something, they would buy them hundreds of the item just to make them happy.

Luckily, the pair had more common sense then their sons as they listened when Magna told them he didn't want something.

Releasing a small sigh, Magna stared at the bright family gathering happening infront of him. Because Magna showed reluctance to stay at the Opus family home, his uncles and grandparents decided to visit him instead.

Willow showed no aversion to the idea as she happily welcomed them with open arms. The Schnee children were equally as welcoming as they practically swarmed Magna's uncles with questions about weapons.

Magna was happy to spend some time with his 'family' but he didn't want them trying to spoil him at every opportunity.

As his uncles happily chatted away with Winter about upgrades she could make to her sword, Maxwell suddenly turned towards Magna with a huge smile as he laughed, "That reminds me. Nephew! Your weapon will be ready in a couple days. Your uncle and I have worked harder on this than any other project so look forward to it, alright?"

Silver nodded on the side as he added, "We personally forged and built everything, so let us know if you want to make any changes. Also, what colour scheme would you like for your weapon?"

The Schneesters leaned close to him and repeatedly whispered, "Light blue and white…" Wanting him to adopt the Schnee family colours.

Magna really wanted to explain that he was just joking about the weapon but when he heard they personal forged and built it, the words became stuck in his throat. He had seen their final design and sighed in relief that it looked different compared to Crescent Rose. It looked more like a cross between Qrow's weapon and Crescent Rose.

Deciding to just accept their goodwill, Magna gave them a small smile as he said, "Just it's normal colour scheme will do, I don't really need something too fancy looking."

His grandfather nodded heavily as he gave a hearty chuckle, "That's right! Us men of the Opus family don't need fancy colours! Our weapons only need to be able to kill grimm! Nothing more, nothing less."

Maxwell and Silver seemed to agree as they gave Magna a big thumbs up before almost instantly shooting out the door. Anna shook her head as she turned towards Willow with an apologetic smile, "Sorry about those boys, Willow. They really want to impress their nephew."

Willow lightly shook he head and smiled, "It's fine Anna."

It was surprising to say the least that Willow and Anna became friends almost instantly. When they met, it was like something clicked inside them as they walked and talked for hours.

Magna already made good on his promise and fully healed Willow. Since then, however, there's been a subtle change in how she treated him. She almost always tries to pick him up, cuddle him or kiss his cheeks. Even though her actions often lead him to feel embarrassed, Magna didn't really mind as she behaved the exact same with her own children as well.

Finishing his meal, Magna looked over to the pair for a second before quietly leaving the room. Everyone knew that today was Magna's last day as he left back to Patch tomorrow at midday.

His uncles already made arrangements to follow after him when his weapon was finished but everyone else couldn't. Because Willow now ran the family, she had to oversee the reforms she wanted to bring to the Schnee dust company.

Magna's grandparents really wanted to go visit their daughter but work stopped them. Being major weapons and machinery developers, they had ALOT of work that required their input.

Just as Magna made it to his room, a small hand landed on his shoulder. Turning around, Magna was met with a slightly flushed Weiss and Winter and a sleepy Whitley.

Weiss twirled her hair around with her finger as she stuttered, "U-Um… since this is your last night in Atlas… we were wondering if you wanted to sleep together…"

Her embarrassment doubled as her cheeks became dark red, "Y-you don't have to if you don't want to! It's just that… I'm gonna… miss you..."

By the end of her sentence, tears slowly fell from her eyes. Stunned, Magna looked to Winter for help only to become stunned as both her and Whitley cried as well.

Not wanting his friends to cry, Magna quickly moved out of the doorway as he smiled, "Come on guys! Let's get some sleep so we can wake up early and hang out. At least until my ride comes."

Winter and Weiss smiled as they quickly made their way inside, supporting their teetering little brother along the way. What they all were unaware of though, was the fact that a certain pair of noble ladies were watching them with wide smiles on their faces.
