Chapter 1: Collapse

Along the outer coast of the kingdom of Vale, a hidden grove where the plants still remain vibrant and wildlife continued to thrive, existed.

There, a group of nomadic people setup a tiny nameless village to call home. Each and everyone of its inhabitants were people forgotten in the past wars and strife. Some were slaves who had managed to flee while others were people who were betrayed or left for dead.

In a tall wooden hut that was nearest to the forest, a small child ran around while chasing a butterfly. The young boy seemed truely happy as his bright smile was accompanied by a peal of childish laughter.

Near the boy was a beautiful woman with a slightly large belly that rested in the shade of a large oak tree. She gently stared at her child before looking down at her stomach with a peaceful smile and started rubbing her stomach very gently.

Suddenly, the boy stopped as he turned around. His smiled bloom even brighter as he ran forward and screamed, "Daddy!"

A muscular and handsome man started walking towards the boy with a large grin. Catching his son as he leaped at him, the man roared in laughter and loudly said, "My son! I miss-"

Before the man could finish, the woman who was resting in the shade disappeared for a second before reappearing behind the man and pummeling him into the ground.

The woman glared fiercely at the man and said, "What have I told you about keeping your voice down!?!"

The man tremble at his wife's words. He meekly nodded and quietly whispered, "Yes, dear. You've told me multiple times to keep it down. I'm sorry."

The man's wife gently chuckled before hugging the man. The man also released a small chuckle before gently huggin her back.

Suddenly, both felt a small pair of arms attempt to wrap around them as a childish voice said, "Not fair! Don't leave me out!"

The husband and wife merely chuckled before picking up there son and wrapping him up in a tight hug.

The small family were about to start preparing dinner when a loud bell rang through out the village.

The man's face quickly became serious as he looked towards his wife and said, "Wait inside with the boy. I'll check out what's happening."

The woman nodded, kissed her husband and said, "Joshua, please be careful and… please come back."

The man, Joshua, gave his wife a confident smile while dramatically posing and said, "Don't worry Emily, my love. Even if I have to crawl, I'll definitely come back."

Rolling her eyes while keeping herself from laughing, the pair shared one last kiss before seperating. Emily watched her husband leave before quickly dragging her son inside their hut.

The boy was pale as he stuttered, "M-Mommy, what's going on? Where's daddy going?"

The mother softly trembled as she embraced her son and said, "Don't worry. Daddy's just checking with the others about what's happening. He'll be back really quick."

The boy was still pale and shaken up but quietly sat in his mother's embrace.

As the boy was slowly falling asleep, a roared echoed through the village. Scared, the boy tightly hugged his mother as he started to cry.

Emily paled as she knows what made that sound. An Ursa, a grimm that took on the form of a bear. Said to have extremely tough hides and pack alot of punch. She still remembers her days as a soldier, fighting them on the front lines, barely being able to even harm the beast.

Grabbing her son, Emily quickly shot out of the hut and ran towards the forest. However, she came to a complete stop as her skin turn even paler.

In front of her was a pack of Beowolves. A weak monster by themselves with their only redeaming traits being their incredible speed and their ability to switch between walking on 2 or 4 legs. However, when in groups, they become practically invincible to normal people.

While Emily is confident in being able to kill a couple, she definitely can't handle a group this big. Not to mention the fact that she's in the final month of her pregnancy and that she'd have to protect her son.

She started to tear up and was about to cry when she felt a small shaking hand grab her hand. Looking down, she saw her son, shaking and pale with fear written all over his face. Yet the boy tried his hardest to smile as he muttered, "Mommy…"

Suddenly, a wave of calm washed over Emily as she picked him up and kissed his forehead. Once she released him, she softly smiled as tears fell down her face and said, "Son… could you please, please run away… I'll distract them for as long as I can so… I want you to run and… please, don't look back…"

The boy tightly embraced his mother as he screamed through his tears, "NO! LET'S BOTH RUN AWAY! I'M SURE-"

Before he could finish, his mother gently covered his mouth with her hand. Smiling, Emily looked him straight in the eyes and said, "Don't worry, my little angel. I'll catch up to you later. Now, on my signal…"

Before the young boy could make sense of anything, his mother turned towards the beowolves and screamed, "Come on you stupid mutts!!! Come and see if you can catch this ex-soldier!!!"

The boy cried as he tried to reach towards his mother. Emily let her tears fall freely as she quickly started running away from her son.

He tried to catch up with his mother but his young age and weak body stopped him as he collapsed a couple seconds later.

Tired and scared, the boy wiped his tears away and turned towards the forest. Making his mind up, the boy forcefully dragged his tired body up and began walking out into the forest.

With blank and clouded eyes, the boy continued to walk for hours, passing trees, waterfalls and destroyed houses until he collapsed in the worse place known to humanity, the shadow lands.

Hungry, thirsty and exhausted, the boy painfully rolled over and stared at the sky. Tears gathered in his eyes as one thought continued to appear over and over in his mind.

'Will I die?'

*SQUAWK!!!*

Forcefully dragged out of his thoughts by a loud screech, the boy stared at the large incoming object in the sky and dryly muttered, "…a Nevermore…"

A giant grimm, born in the shape of a crow. It's large wings allow it to fly, it's beak and talons were sharper than most swords and it's steel-like feathers allow it to possess fearsome attack and defence capabilities.

Seeing the Nevermore diving towards him from high up in the sky, the child suddenly screamed in agony.

His eyes were completely bloodshot as his veins expanded under his skin, becoming visible as they throbbed. The fatigue he was feeling awhile ago disappeared as he began clawing away at the ground and his body.

Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as a hazy aura of myriad colours burst from his body. As the Nevermore drew closer and closer, the aura surrounding him started melding with his body until it disappeared.

The pain that wracked his body vanished as his eyes shot open. Gritting his teeth, the boy held his left hand above him and screamed, "RASENGAN!!!"

Suddenly, a ball of light blue energy started to form on the palm of his extended hand. The orb quickly started rotating as energy continued to gather in his palm, spending powerfully ripples across the surrounding area.

Before anyone could react, the Nevermore collided with the orb for a second before being spent flying with a loud bang.

The nevermore spun through the air for a couple feet before heavily crashing to the ground. After a couple seconds, it slowly rose from the pit it made in the ground. It's wings were only slightly damaged while the right side of it's body had lost majority of it's feathers and it's claw was nothing but mangled flesh.

The Nevermore released a furious cry before hastily flying further into the shadow lands, not even bothering to check if the boy was alive, only concerned about healing.

In a small depression on the ground, the boy who had managed to fight off the Nevermore, had already passed out long before the Nevermore left.
