Chapter 24: Cochlea Raid Operation - Shiki and Muri Have A Blast
Shiki leaped off the roof of the tower towards the Cochlea facility building. He landed silently on his feet before walking towards the the circular opening in the roof that dropped down into the center of the prison. He'd gotten information on the structure of the prison from the schematics Souta gave him. Cochlea was a long building that was wide open at the top, which made it possible to see the sky from inside. While the path was only at the surroundings near ghouls' isolated jails, the center was a deep fall. The structure's walls were coated with quinque steel to help keep ghouls secured within. The building was divided into many deep floors. They included floors one to four with a secret level that was used to exterminate and dispose of ghouls. The first floor was the designated floor used to house and imprison the lower rated ghouls. The second floor was the designated floor used to house and imprison S-rated ghouls. The third floor was the designated floor used to house and imprison SS-rated ghouls. And finally the fourth floor was used to to house and imprison the most dangerous SSS-rated ghouls. Souta couldn't get access to the information of precise location of each prisoner and which cell they were placed in. He told Shiki only the prison staff could have access to such information. Souta though was able to get the precise location where the prison staff stayed to monitor and control the prison facility's defenses which meant the prison control center was Shiki's first target. He didn't want to go in blind.
Shiki erased his presence before dropping down into the prison. Shiki had been toying with casting his magic by using his blood as an energy source. It was very useful but it led to him depleting his own energy and life force. It was a resource that was constantly depleting so he had to be mindful of when he used it. Though he could always renew his reserves by absorbing blood. He used a bit of magic to turn himself invisible as he dropped down into the depths of the prison. Landing noiselessly, Shiki reinforced his stealth before sneaking towards the location of the prison control center. As Shiki walked through the prison, he reached into the duffel bag he was carrying. He brought out and placed remote controlled bombs at various corners where they'd be hard to notice in the middle of combat. He arrived at the door to the control center and sensed ten prison staff inside. The door was locked tight so Shiki dropped some blood on the lock that he'd turned corrosive. The blood dissolved the lock allowing Shiki entry into the room. He immediately released ten crimson kagune serpents that flitted to the staff and bit into their necks injecting poisonous blood into them. They all slumped dead in their chairs before they could raise any alarms. Shiki absorbed them all and went through their memories learning how to operate the controls in the prison. He moved to the console and began to quietly disable all the prison facility defenses that kept people out or could lock them in. He didn't disable those that would alert the current inhabitants of the facility, he just set things up in a way that deactivated all defensive and containment measures. Done with his work, Shiki electrified the panel so no one could access it after him.
He left the control center towards the location of the warden's office. He walked through the prison halls in stealth mode carefully avoiding the inspection security squads. He soon arrived at the warden's office to find the prison warden, Kyouji Misaka, a skinny and pale middle-aged man. He had long blond hair, but was bald on the top of his head. Misaka wore a white tunic with a black armlet. Misaka was seated behind his desk going over some documents when he looked up to find a strange intruder. Confusion then alarm crossed his face and he was about to grab the suitcase beside him and raise the alarm when Shiki pierced him through the head with a serpent kagune. Misaka died with shocked, desperate eyes as Shiki dissolved his corpse and absorbed his memories. Shiki sat behind the desk of the warden and began going through his documents for information. Shiki didn't really come to Cochlea to free some ghouls for Aogiri Tree, he wasn't that kind of person. He wasn't really that invested in the growth of the organization. He'd merely helped out so he'd have something to suitably distract and weaken the CCG while he went about his real goals. He'd originally intended on wiping out the ebtire ghoul organization but saw the benefits that came with having an army. It didn't mean he wouldn't abandon them the moment he had no more use for them, after all he'd only strengthened them so they'd be able to put up more of a fight against the CCG, V and Washuu clan. Shiki had come here because he hoped to find some really powerful ghouls imprisoned here so he could kill and absorb them. He could also kidnap one or two that he and Kanou could experiment on.
Shiki looked through the Warden's memories and documents, identifying the location and identity of each ghoul prisoner. Once he was done, Shiki walked out of the office still avoiding the staff roaming around the facility and making sure everything was in order. He got back to the center of the prison and jumped down straight to the fourth floor. He'd learned there were only two SSS rated ghoul prisoners here, both captured from the 24th ward a while ago. The CCG sometimes had hunting operations in the 24th ward where they'd eliminate or capture powerful ghouls. These two had been captured at different times, each time causing the deaths of numerous high level investigators. Shiki walked to the first cell and unlocked it, he walked in to find an emaciated elderly man chained to the wall. Shiki expected to find this and knew the other SSS rated ghoul probably would be in the same predicament as well. When the CCG captured an SSS rated ghoul, they'd either immediately dispose of it to prevent risks of it escaping or keep it to harvest its kagune as materials to make quinque. Cochlea wasn't just a place to hold ghouls but was more like a kagune farm. You were kept if you were of use but if not you were disposed of. Shiki stood there as the man seemed to not notice his arrival, his mind already seemed shattered from the horrors he'd had to endure as a prisoner here. Shiki didn't want to waste any time so he crushed the man's skull and absorbed his corpse. He walked into the next cell to find a hulking middle aged woman chained up to the wall. Shiki found this interesting since this woman seemed to have been a prisoner here for a much shorter period than the elderly man he'd just killed. She still had a healthy looking body although her dark hair had begun to turn grey from the trauma she'd experienced here. There were streaks of white already beginning to form in her hair. She rose her head up as Shiki approached, a look of fear and hatred in her eyes. She probably assumed he was a new staff here for another harvesting session. Shiki smiled reassuringly as he walked towards her before killing her once he was close enough by lopping off her head and absorbing her corpse. While the SSS ghouls here may have been weakened due to constantly having their kagune harvested, they still provided a bit of a boost to his strength. He walked out of the cell to to the center of the prison before bringing out a communication device to communicate to Eto to move in and begin the operation. He felt it was time plus he'd gotten everything he wanted here and had thus no real vested interest in the success of this mission. He had originally come in here to disable the facility's defenses so the ghoul squads could move in and rescue the prisoners before leaving without fear of being trapped inside. Now that he'd done that and some more, he sent the communication signal that told them to move in before he began to set up explosives all over the place. He'd already gotten what he wanted here from Cochlea so he felt it was only right to leave a thank you note and present for the CCG.
The moment Eto and the ghoul squads outside saw Shiki's message on their devices, they immediately knew it was the signal to begin the operation. They knew Shiki had gone in and had disabled the facility's defenses so without hesitation, they all charged toward the facility and began dropping into the sky entrance. Eto has brought less than a hundred ghouls with her who were divided into squads and were each tasked with a specific goal. Some were meant to eliminate the prison staff. Some were in charge of freeing the prisoners. Eto was in charge of supervising the operation and making sure things moved quietly and swiftly. They didn't want to alert the CCG too soon and have them send their investigators back to stop them. The Aogiri operatives dropped in through the sky entrance with the strongest landing on the deeper levels and the weakest landing on the top levels. The ghouls landed and separated with some moving to open the cells while the others snuck off to find and eliminate the prison staff and guards. Eto dived to the deepest levels where she found Shiki setting up explosives. She chuckled at the thought that the facility she'd broken into ten years ago to free ghouls was going to finally be destroyed at the hands of her and her lover.
Shiki had just finished setting up the explosives on the fourth level while keeping track of the progress of the breakout upstairs. Eto had checked the cells on the fourth level but was mildly disappointed when she found nothing. She didn't really take it to heart though thinking they'd probably already been disposed of by the CCG. She moved up to the 3rd level to try her luck there. Conflict had already begun on the upper levels as the Aogiri Tree ghouls had caught the prison staff off guard and had begun massacring them. The executives were in charge of leading the assault and facing off against the troublesome opponents. Eto moved through the entire floor and released a total of four SS rated ghouls. They included three males and one female. They included a young woman, a young man, an elderly man and a middle aged man. Shiki moved up to the 3rd level as each ghoul walked out of their prison cell. Eto began to introduce herself and Aogiri Tree stating they were each being rescued and recruited to join. They each accepted the offer and began to move with her up to the 2nd level when a large group of prison security staff blocked their way. They were being led by a pale and skinny man with a mushroom haircut. Shiki identified him as the deputy warden, Shinme Haisaki. "If you turn around and head back into your cells right now, we can act like all this never happened. The CCG has already been alerted to the break-in here and they are sure to be sending agents as we speak. As for the intruders, get on your knees immediately and let yourself be captured peacefully or you'll be eliminated." Shinme angrily barked at the ghouls about to escape. Eto giggled and was about to attack them when Shiki called out for her to stop. Shiki felt they'd already spent enough time here so he instructed Eto to keep heading up and release all the ghouls in the prison while he took care of the security staff. Eto seemed a bit disappointed before she led the four formerly imprisoned ghouls past Shinme and his group evading them.
Shinme allowed them to pass since he felt a bigger threat coming from Shiki. His mere predatory presence told them if they turned around to stop Eto and her group, they'd be sure to regret it. Shinme spoke into the walkie talkie in his hand, "Has the control panel been fixed yet? If so hurry up and activate the defenses locking down the facility. Hurry up before they begin to escape the facility. I will not be held accountable for this disaster." Shiki grinned as he observed the group standing before him. The group consisted of several prison squadrons who were originally in charge of the lower levels. Shiki counted twenty five of them standing before him with Shinme making twenty six. Shiki smiled under his black mask before walking towards the group. Alerted the group of security staff released their weapons and attacked Shiki, a hail of Q bullets and ukaku projectiles assaulted his location. Shiki dashed to the side dodging them before speeding forward towards his targets. He suddenly leaped into the air, landing in the middle of the group before releasing his serpent kagune. Blood painted his surrounding as his kagune ripped the people closest to him into shreds. The remaining twenty staff spread out in groups of four. They surrounded Shiki and began bombarding him with attacks. Shiki kept dodging or blocking as he flirted across the space wiping out a squad here and there. His kagune couldn't be broken through as he used it to strangle and rip his victims' bodies into pieces. He used his radar to dodge sneak attacks and grab the staff before ripping them into two with his bare hands. Finally there were two squads left as they combined to be led by Shinme, Shiki wanted to wrap things up since he had one last thing to do here. He pushed up his agility, literally disappearing from their sight before appearing before the final combined squad. He moved in dodging Shinme's kagune before lopping off his head. He didn't stop as he moved through the rest of the group like a ghostly shadow lopping off heads until he was the last person standing.
Done with all this, Shiki began moving up towards the conflict going on upstairs. As he ran up the levels he was assaulted by solitary groups of prison staff who thought he'd be an easy target. He barely stopped as he sliced all their heads off with his kagune. As he ran through he didn't forget to place the explosives all over the place. When he'd gotten the explosives from Uta, he'd tampered with them magically to increase their destructive and heat power. He was sure they'd be able to bring this place down. He arrived at the first floor where the staff seemed to be making their last stand. Eto was slaughtering them with her recently released ghoul prisoners. The ghouls couldn't yet bring out their kagune due to RC suppressants so they were all a little slower than her when it came to killing. Shiki jumped into the conflict tearing through the staff barricade and ripping through the numerous prison staff blocking their way. He did not feel the need to wait here for something new to pop out at them so he sent all the ghouls up the sky exit to freedom where numerous vans would be waiting to transport them to the 11th ward base and the 24th ward base. As they all began to leave, Shiki zeroed in on his last target of the night, Donato Porpora. Donato was an old ghoul who showed the physical signs of a long life with a wrinkled face. He had short cropped, light-colored hair and a neatly-trimmed beard, as well as thick, bushy eyebrows. He was an SS rated ghoul who received special treatment from the warden for providing information to the CCG. He had gotten information on him from the warden's memories and had decided it best not to allow him back to the bases. Not because he was a snitch but because he couldn't be bothered to have such a crafty old ghoul involved with his pet project. He had the feeling he'd have to kill him later on so he just decided to do it now. As they all left the prison and began disappearing into the night, Shiki followed Donato as he moved towards the nearest transport van. Shiki cut the man off m, cornering him in a secluded alleyway. "Is there anything I can do for you gracious savior? I believe we need to leave quick before reinforcements arrive." Shiki didn't speak, releasing his bikaku serpent kagune and detaching it into a spear. He disappeared from his position as Donato became alert and was about to flee the alleyway since he'd yet to recover his kagune use. He sped off for the exit when Shiki suddenly appeared before him spearing him through the skull and killing him. Shiki immediately stored the corpse in his space storage while checking his radar to make sure no one witnessed him doing this.
He returned to the site of the prison to find Eto there waiting for him. She'd probably thought he'd yet to come out, Shiki surprised her by walking up beside her. "They're here, the organization I told you about." Eto said as they looked down to find numerous V agents climbing up the levels to chase after the escaped prisoners. Shiki was already aware of their presence, he'd sensed them arrive from the levels below the fourth level but didn't wish to waste time engaging them since he had another way to take care of them. "Here, set off the explosives and blow this place to hell with these people trapped inside." Shiki said while handing the remote control detonator to Eto so she could personally kill the V agents coming up the levels to eliminate or capture them. Shiki understood Eto had a huge grudge against this organization. She'd told him so late one night after he'd worn her out. So he decided to toss her this bone further cementing her loyalty. Eto caught the detonator in mild surprise before glee covered her face. She immediately set off the explosives as they retreated from the site and disappeared into the night. It happened simultaneously as all the explosives blew compounding and morphing into a huge fiery concussive blast. The V agents hardly stood a chance as they were blown off the paths down into the fiery depths where they burnt to death. The facility structure couldn't handle the heated pressure and began to groan under its own weight. The facility burned brightly lighting up the sky, as the structure slowly heated up and melted from the high explosive heat. Finally, the facility structure couldn't take it anymore and collapsed on itself. The building sank into the hole as the whole thing collapsed underground created a deep crater where the prison used to be. Panic ensued in the surrounding areas as Shiki, Eto and Aogiri Tree had already fled the scene and were already on their way back to base. Shiki was headed to the 24th ward base by himself to secretly deliver Donato's corpse to Kanou for research.
Muri stood with the Aura squad as they faced a total of at least three hundred ghouls. They were made of two warring sides, one wearing skull masks and the other wearing Oni masks. It seemed they were both rising factions fighting for control over the ward and had picked today to finally fight it out once and for all. With the arrival of Kiyoko and her squad came a new enemy that both sides hated. "Oi if we let these people go they'll return with more doves to hunt us down and wipe us out. Let's wipe them out." Their conflict was paused to receive and take care of the arriving ghoul investigators. Muri observed both groups to find their leaders and analyze their strengths. He found the leader of the skulls to be a young female with an athletic physique while the leader of the Oni was a hulking muscular male. Analyzing the members groups he found they were not a threat to any of the squad members on their own but with such numbers he could see this was going to be a hard fight for the squad. Kiyoko stood to the front on the group and raised her quinque before firing off several homing projectiles at each group. Upon landing on various ghouls in each group, the projectiles exploded killing their targets and wounding those around them. "Do not directly engage, we are simply meant to hold them off till the reinforcements arrive and prevent this conflict from reaching the civilians. Get into formation and cut down anyone that comes close." Kiyoko sternly ordered as she began targeting pockets of tightly grouped ghouls in the two groups opposite them. She fired her projectiles off expertly scoring casualties with each shot as the rest of the squad apart from Muri got into a semi circular formation to face the rapidly approaching horde. The ghouls were originally caught off guard by Kiyoko's sudden attack but they immediately recovered as both skull and Oni leaders decided to partner up and eliminate this new threat. They roars at their groups to charge at the investigator squad. Shiki didn't get into formation but rather stood before it and brought out his volcano Quinque. He set it to explosive projectiles and began firing off rapid shots at the approaching board to thin them out before they arrived and overwhelmed the squad. Learning their lesson, the ghoul leaders had instructed their men to spread out so as to reduce casualties. Ukaku ghouls began to fire off their own projectiles in retaliation but they were dodged by Muri. As for Kiyoko, she didn't move a step but continued shooting at the horse as Hana moved to block the projectiles with a shield quinque. Sumire, Soma and Momo stayed in position as they prepared to receive and hold off the approaching horde. Muri retreated behind the formation as the horde approached, he sensed around two hundred and thirty-eight ghouls surviving their bombardment. Muri switched to heated bullets as the horde got closer and began sniping the ghouls at the front of the horde. He scored headshot after headshot in a bid to slow down the ghouls behind his victims. Eventually the hoard reached the formation and squad changed its formation to a circular one as the ghouls surrounded them. Muri was tasked to stay in the middle shooting down troublesome ghouls surrounding them while Kiyoko and the rest were going to engage the ghoul horde in direct combat. Kiyoko separates her quinque into two long blades and began cleaving the ghouls in half as they approached. Hana used her secondary quinque that looked similar to a Chinese pole-arm to begin piercing and sweeping the ghouls that approached her, beheading them and tearing them in two. Momo released her quinque which resembled a spiky spear that extended to pierce its targets and fired off spikes to kill those trying to surround her. Sumire released her quinque that was shaped like a large cylindrical spike club which she used to club her opponents and smash them into mush. She used the club to block attacks then sweep through those in front. Soma release his quinque that looked like two long jagged curved blades that he used to tear into the ghouls that approached him. The formation took on the entire might of the horde as Muri supervised each of his teammates and shot down any ghouls giving them trouble. Soon the ground on which they stood became covered in the blood and pieces of the ghouls that they had killed. They did not bother trying to count how many each person killed but they kept counting down the moments till reinforcements arrived.
They were doing well when Muri sensed an approaching group of ghouls far off into the distance. No one else seemed to have noticed the new group approaching so Muri didn't say anything but continued shooting down any ghouls he found threatened the formation. He had no real obligation to save his squad here and was really just fighting as it was expected of him. He sensed as the two ghoul leaders hid in the horde and stealthily approached Sumire who was dealing a lot of damage to the ghouls around her. Suddenly after Sumire had just crushed three ghouls into mush on the street, the Oni ghoul leader sneak attacked her by targeting her quinque with his koukaku kagune that was shaped like a heavy club wrapped around his arm. He hit with enough force to smash the weapon out of her grip. Sumire didn't panic as she attempted to retreat into the formation and request help, unfortunately just behind the Oni ghoul leader stood the skull ghoul leader who released her ukaku kagune and fired off shards at Sumire. Sumire saw the danger she was in and called out for help. The other investigators were swamped with opponents at their own formation positions. Kiyoko did her best and managed to disengage from her side as Muri pretended to be occupied with covering for her. Muri turned and shot a heated projectile straight into the spot between the eyes of the Oni ghoul leader. He stalled his second shot as he watched the skull leader shoot her kagune shards at a defenseless Sumire. Sumire blocked the first few shards by crossing her arms before her head and torso. The first shards pierced her arms but couldn't penetrate through to her vital areas. Muri sighed in disappointment and shot down the skull leader. Suddenly as Kiyoko was about to arrive at Sumire's position to help her, a tail like kagune wrapped around Sumire's leg and dragged her into the ghoul horde. The whole squad heard Sumire's screams as she was dragged into the hoard and torn to pieces. Enraged, Kiyoko combined her blades and bombarded the origin of that tail kagune with her explosive projectiles. She went berserk as she unleashed hell on the entire horde before she ran out of ammo. She again separated her quinque into two blades and began ferociously ripping the ghoul horde surrounding them into pieces. The other squad members also seemed to increase in ferocity as they viciously massacred the ghouls around them. By now, the horde of ghouls had been reduced to less than a hundred and with the two leaders dead, the remaining ghouls were beginning to show notions of fleeing. "Hold on, reinforcements will soon arrive. We're gonna wipe out these rats once and for all." Kiyoko roared which scared the remaining ghouls into retreat. She switched back to her projectile quinque and began firing off missiles at the fleeing ghouls. Muri switched his volcano quinque back to explosive projectiles and also began blowing up the fleeing ghouls decimating their numbers. He sensed that the retreating were about to collide with the new group of ghouls rapidly approaching. Once the battle seemed over, the squad members apart from Kiyoko and Muri still looked alert but exhausted. Hana and Momo were resting on their weapons while Soma stabbed his blades into the ground and knelt down resting on them. Momo and Soma began to quietly grieve Sumire's death while waiting for their damn reinforcements. Kiyoko stood ahead of them and looked in the direction in which the ghouls retreated. "At least we're done with this, I'm taking a long leave of absence after this fucking operation. Where the hell were the reinforcements?" Soma grumbled at he knelt on the sticky pavement. Muri was busy covertly absorbing the RC cells and blood left over from the battle. He didn't absorb the whole thing leaving behind the liquid wastes. If the investigators around him had taken the time to observe they'd have seen the blood and bodies around them visibly greying.
Muri had been observing the situation of the approaching group of ghouls with his radar. They were numbered a bit over ninety in the group as they approached and came across the now much smaller ghoul horde that the Aura squad had just decimated into retreat. Muri observed as a solitary ghoul, who he surmised to be the leader approached the group and proposed a collaboration. They took some time to argue and it seemed a minor conflict occurred before the two groups merged into one. The newly assembled group began to approach their position intent on finishing them off. Muri chuckled as they were still less than one hundred and fifty but he looked around him to find his exhausted squad and had to stop himself from laughing out loud. How the hell did the clowns manage to rile up so much chaos and assemble so many ghouls. It seems he'd slightly underestimated the group he was a part of if this was what they were capable of. If things were like this here, he could only imagine the situation in the other wards. Probably the 13th ward CCG branch squads were the first to be attacked and that was why they had been alerted so quick. The Aura squad was alone because the other investigators were holed up somewhere fighting off other ghoul groups. No other squad would have been able to take on the number they'd just taken on and that was mainly because the squad had a Special Class combatant like Kiyoko and a monster like Muri. Other squads would have long been decimated. Muri walked to stand beside Kiyoko as the rest of the squad began to notice the rapidly approaching new group of ghouls. Kiyoko's gripped her blades tightly and one could see her considering retreat to safeguard her remaining squad members. Muri nudged her on the shoulder, causing her to confusedly turn to face him. Muri gave her a cocky brave smile, his golden eyes glittering like stars in the night sky. "Don't worry too much. We have a job to do and they asked us to hold the ghouls here and wait for reinforcements. Let the rest of the squad rest behind us while you and I show these ghouls why they should have never messed with CCG investigators." Muri said in a lighthearted tone to Kiyoko. Kiyoko paused upon hearing what he said, smiled, chuckled and began outright laughing. She laughed the hardest he'd ever seen her laugh before. She calmed down before turning to the squad members behind her, "You heard him. Are you gonna let a junior stand us up like this? I've never known the Aura squad to be afraid of a group of rodents. Let's eliminate this threat then go back to celebrate and mourn the life of Sumire, our comrade. Get into formation positions." Kiyoko said with an excited grin on her face. The remaining members got a boost in morale and energy as they got into position. The squad moved forward in formation to engage the approach large group of ghouls. At the front stood a tall muscular female ghoul with fiery red messy hair in a bull mask. Behind her ran ghouls wearing a variety of masks from bulls, cows, calfs, skulls and Oni. The two sides raced towards each other as both sides exchanged projectiles. The Aura squad dodged while the ghoul group weren't able to. Muri and Kiyoko made sure to shoot their explosive projectiles into the densely packed area of the incoming group. As the distance between them shortened, everyone released their quinque with Kiyoko separating her quinque into two blades and Muri releasing his black katana quinque. Both sides collided as the Aura squad dodged under the attacks and each cut a swathe through the ghoul group. Kiyoko looked like a dominant war goddess as she tore and mowed down the ghouls before her as she targeted the ghoul leader. The ghoul leader released a thin whip-like tail which she used to try to sneak attack Kiyoko while she hid amidst the other ghouls. As for Muri he dual-wielded both gun and katana in his hands. He moved gracefully between the ghouls close to him while lopping their heads off and blowing the heads off of the ghoul moving towards him. He moved efficiently like a one man army as he cut and shot a path through the ghouls around him. He used his radar to be constantly aware of the movements and attacks around him. He would periodically check on his teammates to find them struggling on their own, Soma especially. Muri notes that he'd probably soon be cut down if no one went to his aid. Momo and Hana seemed to have things under control on their ends as their long weapons allowed them to keep the ghouls at bay while they dodged attacks and decimated the ghouls around them. All in all the entire squad seemed to be holding on fine though for how long one couldn't tell. Muri himself couldn't care less but he took the time out of killing ghouls to peek at Kiyoko's attractive physique as she tore through the ghouls around her like she was made for battle. Muri felt a bit aroused as he watched her decimate the ghouls around her in her search for the leader hiding amongst the masses. Muri had long sensed the exact position of the leader as she circled behind Kiyoko in a bid to catch her off guard. As the red haired muscular female ghoul was about to launch her sneak attack, Kiyoko spotted her but she was currently busy dealing with two troublesome ghouls. Kiyoko had already decided to sacrifice her shoulder to take the attack when suddenly the ghoul leader's head exploded. Kiyoko finished off the ghouls around her before turning to the direction of her savior to find Muri smiling and winking at her. She laughed and continued ripping apart the ghouls around her.
Suddenly the squad heard Soma's scream as a ghoul ripped off his hand and he was devoured by the ghouls around him. His death further brought down the somber mood of the group as Momo fought back tears while Hana and Kiyoko found a way to increase the ferocity in their attacks. The squad was clearly getting exhausted as they had decimated half the new ghoul group when Muri sensed a rapidly approaching figure heading towards the location of the ongoing conflict. Muri focused on this rapidly incoming figure to find it was an old acquaintance coming to serve as a reinforcement for the Aura squad. Muri identified the figure as it was Kishou Arima, the CCG's Reaper. The tall white haired man sped towards them while releasing and dual wielding both of his quinque. Muri went back to fighting unbothered as he knew this fight was about to end since the CCG's top combatant had just entered the battlefield and was ready to kill all the ghouls present.
