Chapter 9: The only place Goba could be

Even as the night is far underway Goba is nowhere to be seen. What could have happened to him? Maybe I should go and look for him... But where?

He is a slave, and as the field takes a few more days before it needs to be harvested he must do work in the house when I'm doing my practices. But if I want to go there I must be careful, but as he didn't sense me before I think that he won't sense me this time.

I ready myself, ready my mind. I'm like the sun at night, I'm definitely there but no one notices that I'm there in the slightest. This doesn't make me invisible of course, it just does something that makes it harder to notice me. It's like you get a feeling that someone's there before you see, or even here him. Or when you get the feeling that someone's watching you. When I'm like this it's harder to notice if that someone's me.

And like that I make my way towards the house, trying to stand on as little branches, and other things that could make noise, as possible. When I start getting close to the house I hear glass breaking and a heavy voice shouting, but I can't hear what he's saying. The voice does carry the combination of alcohol and anger.

When I come closer to the window I start catching parts of what the man is shouting. And that the man is definitely the same that was at the shed the other night, it's Pridove.

"You stupid goblin, I'm always mocking you, your weakness, that you couldn't even protect your family! And you asked for an honourable duel after I killed them, where's your honour now? Serving the man who killed those you loved, now even too scared to open your mouth in my presence!

But now I'm done with you, I don't need you, I can get anyone to do the work you do, to harvest and plant my weeds. If I go to Fox Creek city and pick up two slaves and offer them bread and your shed they'd love to do the work for me. But don't be scared, I won't just kill you, I'll even give you more freedom. You can do anything you want, just get the field done when it's ready. But your next mistake will be your last.

Oh and don't forget that you must keep wearing that cloak, don't wash it."

As Pridove finishes up his speech I'm already sitting under the window, reeling in my anger. How does he dare to gloat in someone's misery, how does he dare to have killed the family of my brother, how does he dare to threaten my brother!?

But first I need to talk to Goba about it, cause I feel like I can slit that drunken, loud man's neck even at this night.

I hear a door slamming shut, and after a moment of not hearing anything I look up through the window. I see Goba just standing there, looking at the wall, his anger must have gone beyond the boiling point. All that's left on his face is a deep, emotionless, disinterested even, scowl, like there's nothing that could even spark him enough to feel.

Then he looks outside, and our eyes meet right away, and there is a spark. His eyes widen slightly, I think in surprise, then he moves his hand in a shooing motion, sending me back to the shed. And so I do. Slowly make my way back to the shed, not daring to move fast. Even though that man is drunk, if I trip and make a loud noise he will still here me.

When I arrive at the shed I fall down on my hay pile. Making sure that no one notices my presence is tiring, but I did notice that it shares some similarities with the multi-thinking training I do.

Just before I drift off into a train of thought about the differences and simulaties of the flow imagining and the imagining myself being like something else I hear steps outside, Goba's steps.

Goba enters and looks at me with a gentle scowl, I think he is concerned about me, or about what I think.

"What did you hear?"

He's probably worried about if I look down on him for ending up a slave to the one who killed his family.

"I think I heard most of it. And it took everything I got to not stay hidden and cut his throat when he sleeps! Who does he think he is, treating you like that!"

Goba looks shocked at my outburst, it annoys me that he looks shocked, of course I can't stand people treating him like that.

"You may kill him if you want, but I doubt you can get close enough, even while hiding your aura like you did. But if he dies I die too, although I don't mind dying, I don't know if that's what you want to accomplish?"

There's a hopeful glint in his eyes, hopeful to die? I don't get it, I'll find a way to free him. And after that I'll kill that bastard.

"Tell me of a way to free you of that slave contract."

I'm not even asking, until now Goba knows everything, I'm sure he knows the way to get rid of it, and if he doesn't I'll find a way myself.

"There are two ways for the contract to disappear, I need to evolve, or you'll need to become a creator, a creator with the ability to void the contract. Which is almost impossible, you're almost 10 I think, so you only have a small chance of still becoming a creator."

"Can't I become a creator after I turn 10? My birthday is in two weeks already!"

I still don't know what Creators do, but I've seen the Great Creator, just a vision of him. But he created all the monsters, he himself must be even stronger! With power like that I can do whatever I want, protect whatever I want.

"Creators create a World Seed from a strong wish, their own strong child wish. Theoretically speaking it'll never be impossible to create a World Seed, but it gets harder and harder when one gets older. Any cases from a Creator creating there seed after their tenth birthday is practically unheard of.

So if you want to get rid of the seal you'll need a really strong, pure wish. But they say that thinking about wishing something actually makes it harder, so we'll just continue training. Maybe one day you'll be strong enough to get the materials to let me evolve."

He sounds so sure that he won't die before that time, won't he die if Pridove is just in a bad mood? Maybe Goba has a plan, I can't help vut trust him if he sounds like this.

"Don't worry, I'll find a way, I'll become strong quickly!"

He nods at me, his face is hard to read, he probably has enough to think about right now.

"Let's talk about Creators tonight, a slight look in the world of the strongest humans. And we'll talk about the way monsters get strong tomorrow night."
