Chapter 5: Meeting the Madame

Beth got AJ dressed and the got to the dining room for breakfast. She listened to AJ chatter away about about differnt animals and plans with his nana.

She would smile and said "I did not know that."

After Breakfast they headed to the car and asked the driver to take them to AJ'S Nana house.

In the car was a really big man with dark sun glasses that creeped Beth out. He had to be the bodyguard.

They pulled up to a gated house. The driver spoke to the box and the gates opened and they drove in.

Beth was aaaahhhh struck when she seen the house. She thought it look like a castle in fairy tale. Do people really live like this? She thought to her self.

They pulled up and the bodyguard opened the door.

An older lady came out the front door and AJ went running "Nana I missed you." he ran and jumped in her arms giving her a kiss.

Beth was touched by this. She never had any grandparents so never had the love they could give.

Mary held out her hand "You must be Beth, I am Mary ,Nana to Little man, it is nice to meet you, my husband has told me so much about you, but first we need to start painting right Little man."

"Right Nana" AJ then whisper "Nana I want to keep her so be nice."

Mary Laughs "ok"

They all walk in to the house, then out the patio doors and to a little building in the yard.

Inside were a lot a paintings and painting supplies. Mary put a smock on AJ and leads him over to a canvas and paint supplies and let's him start painting.

Then walks back to Beth "Sit, would you like some tea?"Mary asked Beth as they were sitting down.

"Thank you, that would he nice" Beth said.

She pulled on a rope and soon a young girl about the same age of Beth shows up with tea, three cups, cream, and sugar.

"How do you take your tea dear."Mary asked.

"I am not sure I've never had tea like this before?"says Beth.

"Try it like this," Mary puts a teaspoon of sugar in and a touch of cream. Beth took a sip and it as good.

"Beth how do you like your job so far?"Mary asked.

Beth took a sip and said, "I love it. AJ is a delight, he is so caring and bright. I would think he has an high IQ. I can't understand why he would go through so many nannys."

"He does have a high IQ. So it makes him smarter then most people which normal nannys just can't deal with. Do you know about his mother?"Mary said as she drank her cup of tea."

"Yes, Alex told me last night" Beth pauses "It break my heart, I want to wrap them both up and protect them. How can anyone walk away from a child.... but I guess I live that life for myself and I feel for them." Beth lowers her head and was remembering that everyone left her too.

Mary could see the hurt in Beth and wanted to hug her but did not move from her chair. She could see for her self what her husband was saying.

Beth was the one for her son, she could see that now. She would help in any way to get them together.

AJ was painting up a storm. Every so often he would look back at Beth and smile. He liked Beth from the first time he saw her and she treated him like a big boy not a baby.

He wanted her to be around a long time. He had asked his dad when he was three about getting a mother and his Dad said someday they would find him one.

He wanted Beth to be his Mother. He would have to ask his prampa and nana what to do.

He was painted a picture of a fish flying like a bird and he was going to give it to Beth as a gift. Time flew by and it was soon time to leave.

"When can I come back to finish my painting, Nana?" AJ asked.

"Well, let me see," Mary pulled out her appointment book and looked through it. "I have nothing on Sunday, why don't you all come over for lunch and you can paint all day. Then we can also have dinner together."

Beth opened up AJ'S book he had nothing on Sunday, so she wrote it down (Lunch, paint, and dinner at nana's house)

"I will call my son to let him know of the plans too." Mary said while Beth was writing down the appointment.

AJ asked, "How many days is that Nana?"

Mary kneeled down to his level."Four my little man. Nana has a few things going on this week I am sorry." She could see the hurt in his eyes. He loved to paint and at four he was not bad. She kissed him good bye.

Beth and AJ got in the car. The driver asked, "Where to Miss?"

Beth looked up, "Home, Dinner will be ready soon."

They drove back in silence Beth was thinking of the family she never had but wanted.

She has been alone all her life and she just knew that she would be alone for the rest of it. Who would ever want someone with her background.

AJ was thinking that he really liked Beth and wanted her around forever. He leaned on Beth's arm and she pulled him close and they rode home.

When they got home, Alex was already home. AJ went flying into his arms.

"Looks like you have been busy today little man, what have you been up to?"Alex asked.

AJ told him everything that happened as Beth sat on a chair near by.

When AJ started talking about Sunday Alex said, "Your Nana called me and it sounds like fun."

Turning to Beth, "Guess that means you get the day off. I will advance you some of you pay so you can do some shopping for things you need. I was told you only had two small boxes and one small suitcase when you came."

Beth was surprised she had assumed she would be going but she was just hired help so she smiled and said, " Thank you."

Dinner was announced and the three went in. She help AJ with cutting up his food and ate her dinner. Alex excused himself to his office and Beth took AJ to his bathtub and washed him up from head to toe as he splashed and giggled.

She got him ready for bed and tucked him in. "What story do want to hear tonight," she asked.

Before he could answer a voice behind her said "This is my job, I read to him every night, guess I did not make that clear last night, Sorry. " Alex picked up Good Night Alexander and took the seat Beth got up from.

Beth went through the door that connected her room with AJ'S. She went and sat down on her couch and cried. She was not sure why she was crying but she just let her tears some out.

A little while later can a soft knock on her door. She dried her eyes and answered it. There in her door way stood Alex. "We need to talk please, can you come to my office." He did not wait for a reply just walked off.

Alex noticed she had been crying and for some reason it broke his heart. But he had to make things clear to her that she was just an employee and could never be anything else. Beth followed behind him to the office.

"I'm sorry for not understanding, it won't happen again." she said.

"It's ok, but that is not what I need to speak to you about. You where hired to take care of my son. So far you are doing the best job out of anyone I have had in the past. So I would like to keep you around for that. However I want to make it clear that my time with my son and family does not include you. You will be off during this time. If my family invites you to join us for any reason you are to reject their offer. That includes when AJ goes to visit his grandparents you wait in the car with the driver. Understand? You visiting with my mother when she was supposed to be spending time with my son is not what you are paid for. If you understand this it will make your job easier. You may leave." he pointed to the door then started reading some papers in front for him.

With out a word she got up and went back to her room and the tears fell still not understanding why.

She fell a sleep and woke up at 3am still in her clothes. She got up took a shower and went back to bed. As she feel asleep again she dreamed of being locked away from the world never feeling the touch of others but being forced to watch the love of a family over and over on a screen.
