Chapter 8: The Hunter Exam Begins (part 1)
{So your gonna take the path of the edge lord huh,} Luna comments on me lying on the highest part of the ship during the storm.
'Shut up,' I tell her. 'I wanna take a nap but, it's too noisy cause everyone downstairs is sea-sick for some fucking reason.'
{Hey, you knew this ahead of time,}Luna informs me. {Cause don't you know about the canon of the story?}
'I may know the anime but,' I begin. 'I haven't ever lived the anime before and who knows what will happen since I'm here now.'
{Your right and with that being said you better check on Gon.}
'Might as well since I can't take a nap now since your annoying me.'
{Hey!}
I stand up and jump off the spot I was lying down on. I then walked inside the ship and see Gon running around to take care of the people who are sea-sick, a teenage boy with medium blond hair with dark grey eyes wearing a blue tabard decorated with a red-colored hem and a white full-body training suit underneath and periwinkle Chinese style flats reading a book, and a old man with small brown eyes, black hair, and a spiked crew cut and wearing a dark blue business suit, black shoes, and a pair of teashade sunglasses lying on a hammock. The captain stuck his head into the room we were in and saw us. After he left I went back outside the ship and climbed back to the spot I was originally was at and took a nap.
Later on, the storm cleared and I was standing with Gon at the head of the ship. He suddenly started sniffing around and says, "There is another storm coming but it's going to be three times as big as last night's storm."
"Finally you smelled it," I tell him. "I smelled that storm an hour ago luckily enough you have me cause we would be shark chow if we only had your nose."
"Well your nose has always been better than mine and it's not like I can change that," Gon whines.
"That's right boys!" Then the captain suddenly yells out, "There are lifeboats for those who want to leave!"
All of the candidates that were seasick run to the lifeboats leaving only me, Gon, and the other two.
"Hey you four come here," the captain calls to us. "I need to ask you something."
All four of us came down to see what the captain wanted to ask us.
"Okay," the captain begins. "Tell me your names."
"I'm Gon."
"My name is Ziv."
"I am called Kurapika," the blond boy says.
"The name is Leorio," the old man tells him.
"Good good," the captain says. "Now why do you boys want to become Hunters?"
"I prefer not to answer that," Kurapika says.
"Your not an examiner so I don't think we should tell you that!," Leorio yells.
"I will," Gon says cheerfully. "My dad is a Hunter and I wanna know why my dad desired so much to be a hunter!"
"Like Gon, my parents were Hunters, however," I answer with a calm smile on my face. "I wanna be a Hunter for the adventure, freedom, and fun."
"Hey kids," Leorio yells at Gon and I. "You don't have to answer nuthin' come on getting with the program it's us vs. him."
"Why can't I tell him why I'm here?" Gon ask. "It's not like it's a secret or anything."
"Don't tell me what the hell to do unless you don't like your life," I tell Leorio. "If you don't please let me know cause I want to really kill something." My eyes flash crimson red at the end of my sentence and I smile with malicious intent. Kurapika eyes widen when he saw the red flash from my eyes.
"I'm afraid I agree with Leorio," Kurapika says after a brief pause probably mentally noting to ask me about them.
"Hey, that's Mr. Leorio to you brat," Leorio says while shaking slightly from my bloodlust.
"But why not dodge the question by offering a plausible lie," Kurapika continues.
"Hey! Are you even listening to me?!," Leorio yells forgetting what I just said a minute ago.
Kurapika continues to ignore Leorio and continues to talk, "However it is quite shameful to rely upon deceit. As for me, I cannot reveal my reasons here, I have my share of secrets deep secrets which I do not wish to expose at this time. That is why I will not answer your question."
"Grr~... Hey, you..... Don't ignore me!" Leorio yells completely bypassing everything Kurapika just said.
"So you two flat out refuse to answer my question," The captain states. "Hey, Katzo!"
"Yes! What is it, Captain?" A thin and frail looking guy with brown hair and green eyes answers. This guy was the one Gon helped to pick up some apples the first day on the ship and a few minutes ago was helping Gon with the sea-sick passengers.
"Get ahold of the exam committee for me," The captain begins. "Let them know we got two more dropouts."
"Hold up what do you mean?" Leorio asks in fear.
"Oh I know," I yell with happiness in my voice. "Let me give it a shot."
"Okay kid if you think you know then take a stab at it," The captain tells me.
"The exam has begun already," I start. "And the examination board is overloaded with tons of Hunter wannabes so the examiners don't have the time or resources to review all of them. So they hire people like him to eliminate the unworthy and I'm guessing you already let them know about the ones that left."
"You got all that from a simple question like that!" Leorio yells in surprise.
"And if what you said is true," Kurapika added. "Then we lost even before we started."
"Hold on how did you know that Ziv?" Gon asked.
"Well for one his crew was writing down something when the others were busy with their seasickness," I begin to explain my reasoning. "And from how they were looking from an applicant to paper and I am guessing they were writing the names of all the people who were sick so all they have to do with you two is just write your names so I think you might want to answer his question."
"Impressive kid," the captain said. "And he's right just so you two know."
Hearing this both Leorio and Kurapika quickly both told the captain why they want to be hunters. Like in the original story Leorio wants to be a Hunter for money and Kurapika wants to be a Hunter to avenge his clan.
After seeing if the captain was done with us Kurapika quickly asks to talk with me outside and left without me answering. I follow him and Leorio follows me most likely still angry about Kurapika and I not respecting him.
Once outside Kurapika asks, "Are you apart of the Kurta clan?"
"No why would you think that?" I ask him.
"The way your eyes briefly became red when you were talking to Leorio," he answers. "Anyone from the Kurta clan eyes can become scarlet when they have intense emotion."
"Oh~," I say. "I have something called the Sharingan, or as it is sometimes known as the Copy Wheel Eye, which allows me to copy and/or analyze anyone's fighting style and movements."
"Oh," he responds sadly.
"It has five different states, the first three are the three tomoe, which are the basic state of it and once you acquire a tomoe you can't reverse it, and the last two are the Mangekyo Sharingan and the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan," I continue.
"What's the difference?" he asks me.
"When an eye uses the Mangekyo it eventually loses its light, which is to say the eye becomes blind," I answer. "The EMS is more powerful and the eye doesn't become blind when using it."
Kurapika, Gon(who came outside to see what's going on), and Leorio gasp once they hear this.
"I only have the three tomoe unlocked tho," I inform them.
Suddenly a loud splash was heard and someone called out for help.
"You three can you help me out here?" I ask Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio.
"How?" They all say.
"I'm gonna tie this rope to me and you pull me up when I tug on it!" I yell.
"Why can't I do it?" Gon asks.
"Because you didn't learn how to swim," I tell Gon while tying a rope onto myself and gave the rope to him, Leorio, and Kurapika. "Okay hold on to this tightly."
I dive into the water and swim toward Katzo, the rope hurt my waist but I kept going. I reached Katzo I yanked on the rope and I felt me and Katzo being pulled through the water very quickly. Once we were on the deck, Katzo was throwing up the water he swallowed and I was inhaling large amounts of air since I held my breath. My eyes teared up due to the salt water in the ocean.
"Thanks for the help guys," I tell them. "I really appreciate it."
"No problem," Gon says.
"Your welcome," Kurapika responds.
"Don't just rush into things like that ever again!" Leorio yells at me.
"Heh~, I won't," I say.
