Chapter 26: Interlude- A Normal Day with My Little Monsters
"This is the mystical sword, forged from the scales of the legendary dragon of roaring thunder. This way-ow", I hit the person shouting this bunch load of nonsense on the head.
But he continued,
"You really want to pick a fight- Aaah! Ow ow ow!", I pinched him by the ears, "ow ow, okay it hurts brother!"
It was non-other than my notorious little brother.
"Stop swinging that broom around and get back to work!", I retorted angrily.
Armin who was in charge of the cleanup and dusting department was playing with the dusting broom as if it was some kinda sword.
He can't even manage to do one job without making a ruckus.
As for Rose, she was sitting near the window,
"Oi Rose! Can you lend me a helping-", I was asking for help, suddenly Rose turned back and glared angrily.
"Nevermind! Big bro got this.", I replied with flexing my muscle.
Well, Rose was hella pissed.
I was passed out for 3 days.
Although, I didn't even have a scratch from that epic battle but the restoration process really exhausted my body. The Golden class healing potion, the Elixir of Utopia was a very powerful potion. The potion was brewed by top tier renowned mages with high-class herbs and other ingredients. It was also imbued with magic which was one of the main factors for healing.
It was a very powerful potion that it didn't take much longer to heal my injuries once I drank the elixir. It was so powerful that I lost my consciousness for the whole three days.
Pietra and her subordinates carried me home in the unconscious condition. I don't know how they got my home address but they somehow carried me all the way to home. Rose and Armin panicked when they saw them carrying me in an unconscious state. They attacked Pietra and the other two companions, Rose attacked with spatula and Armin with a cucumber which was half eaten.
But Pietra easily suppressed them without doing them any harm and explained them my situation.
Today was the third day and I woke up this morning after the long deep slumber.
Rose was mad at me. She already despised the idea of me joining the army. And on the first day, I returned home in an unconscious state and slept for a whole three days. Whereas Armin was his usual self like always. He had almost didn't think much about his poor little unconscious brother.
Today, there was a woman cooking lunch for us. She was a bit plumpy and had curly brownish short hair. She was dressed in a long frock with our old stained apron. She wore a piece of cloth tied to cover her hair from not getting stained while cooking.
"Thanks for all the help Aunt Martha. I am really grateful.", I thanked her as she was cooking delicious stewed meat and her specialty berry rice for us.
"No problem! No problem! I am happy that you fine. Rose, Armin worried for you. Hope you okay now.", she responded.
"You are really big help. I am sorry to bother you with my problems.", I replied with an apologetic tone.
"It is no problem. Don't, sorry me. It's okay.", she replied back with a pleasant smile.
"Thank you again. I shall take care of the clothes."
Aunt Martha's English was pretty broken up as you can see. She lived near my sibling's school. She was a very kind lady who had helped out us several times.
She was a widow and worked at the school doing menial chores. Before she lived in the city, she belonged to a nomadic tribe who used to travel all around the world. They were fellow merchants as well as entertainers. They also spoke in their own special language.
But during the last war 15 years ago, her whole tribe was slaughtered in the crossfire between Rublor and the hostile nation of Stezar. Her late husband who was a fellow soldier of Rublor rescued Aunt Martha the sole survivor and bought her into the city. Later they fell in love and married.
Later her husband started to teach her our language but before he could complete teaching the language, he was killed in the line of duty.
Despite she faced so many hardships, she still had a broad long smile and helped out other people. Despite she doesn't even have any relatives. She looks after Armin and Rose whenever I was busy. She really handles both of them pretty well than I ever could.
Is this how it feels to have a mom?
I then washed all the clothes that had been piled of for three days.
Rose and Armin, both had skipped school just to stick around when I was unconscious me. Aunt Martha said Rose sat beside me for the whole three days. She even ate her lunch beside me. Although Armin continued to do his lunatics and even went to play outside with his friends in his free time.
The heck did Armin skipped his school for?
After I washed the clothes, I hanged them around the sunlight. Later we had a hearty lunch with everyone. Rose seemed to be avoiding me this whole time.
Later in the evening, I took them to eat parfait which was Rose's favorite. She really did her best to avoid me all this time but she surrendered to her sweet tooth. I finally made it up to her. We strolled around parks and town. We even viewed the sunset on the river bank.
Later, we even had our dinner in a restaurant.
Armin snatched the menu card and started to order a bunch of exquisite dishes. But I smacked him in the head ordered something that my pocket could handle. Soon after eating, he passed out on the dinner table. I had to carry him on my back.
It was already night-time and we headed to our home. Armin was asleep on my back as he snored in my ears, whereas I was holding rose by her hands.
"So did you guys enjoyed your time with Big bro?", I asked Rose.
Suddenly her pleasant smile disappeared and she again made the pout face.
"It was okayish.",she replied.
What's with that response?
"But you seemed to enjoy devouring your parfait like there is no tomorrow. You were like-" I teased her by mimicking her eating her parfait. I exaggerated the way of eating a bit. It was difficult to do that whole thing as I carried Armin on my back.
"Ow!", I shrieked when she punched in my stomach, "Hey I just had dinner. This is what I deserve to babysit you brats?"
Instead of a sorry, she looked the other way.
These Brats!
Is this what you call going through the rebellious phase?
Well, I never had such a phase so I don't know a thing about it.
"Say, brother will you still go again for work tomorrow onwards?", she asked me as she tightened her hand's grasp. I couldn't see her face as she looked the other way towards the street stalls.
I had already taken 3 days off after just my first day. I could have gone this morning itself to my duty. But instead, I chose to spend some time with Rose and Armin. I also have to think up of a good reason for Captain, Bruno and the others for my absences. Rose and Armin were told that I was hit my horse carriage and fell asleep for three days after the healer healed me.
"Yeah, I have to go. I already took a 3 days holiday, I don't want to worsen my records anymore. So yes, I got to go, haha!.", I replied in a joking manner.
To that, she didn't respond and stayed quiet.
"But you guys should attend your school no more skipping classes-", I added.
"You are an idiot, big brother!", she shrieked out in anger and freed her hand from my grasp. We had already reached our apartment building and she rushed to our building.
"Oi! Where are you going? I have the keys here.", I scowled back.
She returned back tiptoeing and snatched the keys from my hand.
"I really hate you, big bro!", she yelled at me once again.
She again dashed to our apartment room but this time with the keys.
Today Rose's behavior was a bit childish not like her usual mature act. But this was also a pretty cute side of her. Now I gotta haul the big lump of a sleeping panda (Armin) on my back to the room, all the way to the 2nd floor.
These brats are a heck of trouble to deal with!
However, when I am with my little siblings they make me feel complete and feel at ease.
I could go on living this life with just the three of us.
