Chapter 21: Work
Next morning,Jonathan wokeup around 9 am,as it was a holiday.He then walked upto his restroom,freshened up and came to the kitchen to prepare bread toast for breakfast.He placed the slices in the toaster.Just then his phone started ringing.He took the phone and went to the balcony with a glass of milk on the other hand.It was Steve.
"Good morning,Young Master"
"Good morning Steve"
"Do you want me to arrange anything for lunch as usual?"Steve asked politely.
As usual? Was he thinking that Jonathan cannot take care of himself.
"No.Its fine.I will make something myself"
"But,master?"
"Its fine.Its not a big deal"just as he finished the sentence,the fire alarm in the kitchen began to ring.He disconnected the call and ran into the kitchen.There was a lot of smoke coming from the toaster.He quickly unplugged the toaster ,opened the windows and switched on the exhaust fan.After a while the smoke slowly started to clear.
He then went to the toaster and took out the bread slice which now looked like a piece of coal.
"Yeah.No big deal."he sighed.The truth was he never once tried cooking.The only thing he knew was making tea.To begin with,He was from a rich family so if he needed food all he had to do was give Steve a call and in a while the food will be served before him.It was as simple as that.
He cleaned the mess he had created and went to the living room.He took out his phone to make an order.That was when he saw he had about 10 missed calls ,all from Steve.He called him back.
"Young Master,What happened?I heard an alarm.Is everything ok?"his voice was shaking
"Yeah.Yeah.Everything is fine.Someone nextdoor left their toaster on"he lied.Besides he didn't wanna let him know that couldn't even make a bread toast.
Steve knew that only Jonathan's house was in the 10th level.But he decided not to reveal his Master's lie.
"Did you get any info on that black car?"Jonathan changed the topic.
"No master.We are keeping a watch on the CCTV cameras around the area"Steve replied.
"Okay."
"Master.Do you like to come back home for lunch?"he asked as he knew that his Master won't be able to cook a decent food.
"Didn't I tell you earlier.I can manage on my own."Jonathan replied not admitting defeat.
"I also have some assignments to work on."saying so he disconnected the call.
Steve couldn't help but sigh at how stubborn his Master was.
Jonathan then sent a text to Sandriya.
'Can we discuss about the assignments today?'
In a few minutes he received a text from her.
'Did you forget that I have work?I have to do extra shifts for taking 2 days off'
Jonathan was disappointed.
After a while ,his phone started ringing again.It was Sandriya.
"Hey.We can finish our assignments today"she said.
"Really.Didn't you say you had work?"he asked.
"Yeah.I did.But my manager called me just now.She said that she had decided to reduce my shifts as I am working hard lately.And guess what she also said she has increased my salary.I can't believe it.Less work time with an increment."She said excitedly.
"Your hard work has really paid you well.So when can we start?"he asked.
"Sharply at 4.Is that fine?"she asked
"Yeah."
"Okay then.I am gonna have my lunch"
"Okay"
"Did you have lunch?"she asked him
"No.I am not hungry.So I didn't cook"he said quietly.
"Okay then.See you at 4"she replied and disconnected the call.Knowing that she didn't suspect a thing ,his lips curved into a smile.
After he received the text from Sandriya earlier he immediately called Steve.
"Steve.I want you to contact 'Expresso cafe'.My friend Sandriya works there.Ask the Manager to reduce her shifts,give her day offs on weekends and also about her salary,they neednot pay her.She will receive the money from our company instead."he instructed.
"But Master.Isn't this a little too much?"Steve asked politely
"Make sure Sandriya doesn't know who was behind her increment.It should be as if she was awarded for her work.Do I make myself clear?"he asked not minding a single word of what Steve said.
"Yes master"Steve sighed in defeat and did as his Master had instructed.
Jonathan was happy with the result.He then texted Steve 'Well done' and put his mobile beside him and relaxed on the sofa with his head facing the ceiling and closed his eyes.
Now.Why was he doing this?He just wanna spend more time with her.Its normal to spend a lot of time with your friend right?
Jonathan was starting to feel a bit hungry.He slowly rubbed his tummy.It was already 2 pm and he had not eaten anything since morning except for a glass of milk.
He took his phone again and started looking at the menu for ordering food.
Just when he was about press confirm,he heard a knock on the door...
