Hana P.O.V.
//in the kitchen//
That boy... I thought he was actually good but I was wrong. If he couldn't even keep his mate... Rose from leaving, then how is he supposed to keep an entire pack in check?
Oh Rose... I hope you really are safe. You were like a daughter to me.
"-Hana? Ms. Hana?"
My thoughts were interrupted by a new presence. I turned to where the voice originated from and found it to be Kristie.
"Oh Kristie dear, what are you doing here?"
"Ummm... I was just wondering if you needed help since..." she fiddled with her fingers as if unsure of herself. A tint of embarrassment covered her face in the hue of red. I gave her a smile to try and calm her down. As well as to reassure her that everything's gonna be fine.
I'm sure the poor girl is already suffering enough. She most probably believes she is the main reason Rose left. I saw how she too loves Devon and how she tried to protect Rose by directing all the pain and hatred towards herself.
"Yes, thank you dear. Can you do the eggs? 28 sunny side up, 41 is scrambled, and boil maybe about ten?"
"Ah! Yes I'll get right to that!"
"The ingredients for the scrambled eggs are already set out there."
I pointed towards the long table in between the stove and door
"Ah, thank you." She gave a forced smile trying to brighten up the mood. That child... how long has she been doing that?
"No child, thank you." A ghost of a smile reached her face this time, it was real.
[ Connor P.O.V ]
//a few hours back//
I woke up and looked around a while room. White sheets, and pillows on the white bed I was in. white walls, white ceiling, white floor, heel even the light was white.
"You're awake."
I turned my head slightly to the right and saw Ms. Hana sitting in the far corner of the room. I slowly got up into a sitting position as Ms. Hana came over to assist me.
"What-" I asked before memories of what happened came back to me. That bastard!!! He could have killed her!!!
(It is known that once one loses the half of themselves, the mate, the pain is too much too handle and they mostly die from the depression or by suicide)
"Relax Connor; there is nothing we can do now."
"Relax?! How can I relax when –"Every muscle in my body tensed when a pain shot through my arms as the wounds inflicted earlier reopened. Or at least that's what it felt like.
"This is why I told you to relax. The doctor only applied ointment and bandaged the cuts. We ran out of pain reliever."
"Ugh." I looked to my left as saw none other than Devon. Anger started to boil in me but... she was right there is nothing we can do now. Sure he rejected her but he wasn't the only one at fault.
I looked down to the sheets; my hands fisted crumpling the white cloth. I spoke, my words hushed and said between breaths.
"I- I am to- blame... I never protected her like- like I should have. I was her brother, it- it should have been me who understood her and stayed b- by her side but... I- I was blinded by the need to become beta. I - I was blinded by power.
STUPID POWER!!! I WOULD GIVE UP ALL MY POWER TO HAVE HER BACK! But- I... I...."
Tears burst through my eyes, I could no longer control it as it continuously flowed.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Forgive me. I'm so sorry. I-"
I was cut off my Ms. Hana hugging me and rubbing circles on my back. My muffled cries went on until sleep consumed me.
Rose- im so sorry. Rose.
