Chapter 7: Rose

Marcus looked around the dark room.

Seeing the familiar room, he sighed.

"My peace room."

He was silent for a long time.

"Maybe I can sing here? The walls are soundproof. No one can make fun of me here, right?" He asked the darkness.

"I know James isn't here... but I need to talk to somebody."

"I'm alone," he said, getting out of bed.

"It must be Saturday by now."

A window was open, facing the forest and the cliff he recently left. He walked his way to it and looked out of it.

"I could start singing right now..."

"It's not like there's anyone between this window and the cliff who could possibly hear me."

So, leaning out of the window, he began to sing.

His voice was perfect. When he got to the middle of the song, though, he suddenly stopped and started laughing.

"I don't understand why I like being alone..." He sighed.

"Should I continue singing?" He asked himself.

He stared at the cliff, wondering about his life, and how he would cope with life after school.

Still leaning out of the window, he saw someone walking to the edge of the cliff and sitting down. It was too far away to determine if it was a boy or girl, but he could distinctly see a yellow hoodie. The person wearing a yellow hoodie started to sing too. Coincidentally, it was the same song he had been singing.

"Wow... he's great at singing..." Marcus muttered. "If I could sing like that..." he said wistfully.

'Maybe I should sing along?' he thought.

Marcus sang along with the stranger wearing a yellow hoodie, their voices in perfect synchronization. As they finished the song, Marcus saw the stranger take out a phone and type something.

Suddenly, Marcus's phone buzzed. He walked away from the window and picked up his phone on the nightstand.

'Were you the one singing along with me?' The text said.

Marcus rushed to the window, and saw the stranger with a yellow hoodie waving at him.

'Yeah... Sorry. Your voice sounded really good, and I just wanted to sing along,' hes ant back, embarrassed.

'It's alright. I actually heard you singing first, so I should be apologizing.'

'How'd you find my number?' He asked.

'It's a secret.'

Marcus didn't think it was safe enough to text the stranger, but he might as well, right? He didn't consider anyone his friend, except James, and she was a part of his imagination. He finally found someone as creepy as him, why not be friends?

'Wanna be friends?' He texted.

'No.'

Marcus was taken aback, but then he laughs.

"You're interesting, Stranger." He yells at the person sitting on the cliff.

"You're weird, too, Stranger." The person in the yellow hoodie yells back.

"You sure you don't want to be friends?" Marcus yells.

"I'm sure you're much more interested into making me your puppet."

The stranger's voice wasn't too masculine or feminine, but it was beautiful all the same.

"Are you a girl or a boy?" He asked.

"I'll tell you when you manage to make me into one of your toys." The stranger yelled back.

Then, the stranger got up, and climbed down the cliff.

Marcus smiled into the cool night.

"I wonder who that was..." Marcus said, smiling.
