Chapter 8: Adrin

"This girl is trying to get me killed." I thought running down the stairs.

I had just finished calling for the doctor but now, Reah was nowhere in sight!

"You can't be serious," I muttered to myself.

I ran down the last flight of stairs and pushed open the door. Across the emergency department, I spotted Kinara exiting the Yuno dragged us into earlier.

"Kinara!" I called running over to her.

"Adrin what are you doing down here? Aren't you supposed to be upstairs?"

"I was, until she disappeared." I exhaled sharply shaking my head. "Let's hope she didn't go outside," I said under my breath.

Kinara patted my shoulder, "don't worry she's in there." She turned her head in the direction of the door she just came out of.

"I was actually coming to get you. Your mother, father and sister are going to have a meeting along with the prime minister, they asked me to go get you. Come on let's go!" Kinara said impatiently before walking in the direction of the secret entrance to the palace.

We walked down the long hallway that lead to my father's office which was at the end of the hall. I pushed one of the double doors open.

"It took you guys long enough," my sister Yuno said standing up to greet us.

"Hey Yuno!" Kinara said walking over to talk to her.

I looked around the room, no one else had arrived yet. I wandered across the office to one of the leather armchairs. I plopped down in one of them leaning comfortably on the back.

Soon the door opened, and the prime minister Robin Sterose walked in. He was a tall, slender, he is always wearing a black suit and spectacles.

Behind him, is my mother. She is very intelligent. She is the one designed the pendants the whole royal family wore. The pendants had trackers installed into it so in the case of a kidnapping they would know where to find the person who had been taken.

A couple minutes later, my father walked into the office.

"Now that everyone is present, let's start." King Yorius, my father, said taking a seat at his desk.

He took a deep breath, I knew what was coming. "Adrin. Do you realize the situation we are in right now? Aurora just got its independence from Lumi-Okia and all the countries from the main continent are watching our every move to see if we'll mess up on our own!" He lectured me. I opened my mouth to say something, but I closed it again. It was better to wait until he was done talking.

Yuno butt in, "Father listen, she actually doesn't mean anything to Adrin! She saved my son's, your grandson's life! Adrin only got tied up in it because he made a scene trying to get in there as fast as possible. You see the girl was in worst shape than Andere. I heard from one of the nurses that she was also malnourished and seemed to not have eaten in a few weeks."

I looked at Yuno in shock. Wasn't it just a few hours ago that she was ready to rip the poor girl's off for "trying to kill her son" now she was making her look good in front of the king!

"Your Majesty if I may," Kinara spoke up. "When Adrin and I went to investigate the scene, we saw footprints coming from deep within the forest southeast of the castle. It doesn't seem like she came from the capital at all, so that puts anti-crown spy out of the question."

My father nodded, "and what are we going to do about all those reporters making up stories about Adrin and Reah?" He said rubbing his chin.

"One of you guys could always introduce her as your adopted daughter then they it wouldn't be so…" The prime minister trailed off.

"But doesn't she have parents?" My mother asked trying to think of a solution without any flaws.

"She doesn't," I said. Everyone's eyes turned to me. "While I was in the room with her, the doctor asked Reah if there was anyone for them to call. She replied, 'there is no one they are all dead,' then started crying." I explained trying to get the attention off me.

The room fell silent, the one only sounds you could hear was the ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner. The clock struck 7 pm and my father stood up. He walked over to the giant window and stared at the beautiful blue sunset that polished the sky.

"Tomorrow we will hold a press conference introducing Reah Amber as Yuno's newly adopted daughter."
