Chapter 26: One fine day (3)
Woden walked down the corridor with a heavy heart, just the first issue alone was hard enough to convince David, in fact deep down he knew the reason fully well but he just could not convince himself to leave it like this. After the talking with Solo yesterday, he could grasp the approximate number which not as high as the first estimated, as only the people of high status or hold of significant power would be executed, however, he still believed that there must be a better way.
And the new issue just came, Woden knew that the conflict between these two races had only one conclusion, war. 100 years of conflict showed how much their hatred for each other if the situation was the same when human countries were controlling each other and both races had their own human country to ally with, the conflict would stay at a stalemate.
The human was weak compared to other races, there was only one thing that human show an overwhelming advantage against other races, fertility.
Looking be the number alone, in 100 years a couple of elves may have 2-3 newborn, dwarves may have 5-6, while a human with a short life span of around 50 years would already at the third or fourth generation.
Elevs had a long lifespan and better than human in every way but in all whole life elves lived in monogamy and would not look for another partner even if death do them past, at most 2-3 newborn may come from elves couples every hundred years. Many elves lived in the forest their whole life but some would come out to broaden their horizon or just looking for fun. The elves lived at many places in the continent before but after human emergence, they moved to the east and south without direct conflict against a human while those that stay was incorporated into human civilization. A mating between human and elf would either result in an elf or human child but most time no offspring born between them.
Dwarves lived shorter than elves but still longer than human they shorter and bulge but those muscles were a real deal, they also had night vision and held high resistant in almost everything that harmful to human. They were weaker with magic but their control of inner force was better than human, they were short temper but the skill of them in many things was topnotch, most dwarves were good blacksmiths and fine craftsmen. Their fertility was a lot better than elves but still fall short by a lot compared to a human. All dwarves lived in their mountain cities and may extend to the hill and some plateau.
In the human history book, a war erupted once when human broke free of dwarves control and gained control of central plain, they also intermarriage with elves because of love and they educated and civilized demihuman as they brought them into human society. The truth was buried behind the time but some long live race may record it in another way, especially dark elves race the close relative of elves that decide to unite all race in the far east, beyond the great forest which is the boundary of the continent by human knowledge.
While Woden escorted his wife to the carriage, David and Solo were talking about how to persuade Woden.
"I don't think he will listen. Why don't we proceed as we intend?" Solo asked.
"No, we have too."
"Why? You are the emperor, we, I believe in your decision."
"We know what we are but know not what we may be… If I don't persuade him and just ordering him to obey, I felt like I will become something else and I'm afraid of that.... you see yesterday I pondered and thought about what I would do in the past and somehow I think that I of that time will find another way."
"…. But this is the quickest and efficient method. Those who feared us would stop and those who still resist or continue in their old way would finish, they would stop causing us problems. And it's not like those conservative magicians are really conservative, they just don't want to lose their power. We already finish the information operation and they are now trying to resist, with just a little threat they will all flock together and hold up in their vain hope that they can fight."
The ploy which David and Solo came together was to spread the rumor about punishment and made them fear, it was not like people love to be burial alive or slash into thousand pieces anyway.
For the traditionalist but not lawbreaker, the weak and coward would surrender or at least shut their mouth, the strong and strong will would fight back but that good as there would be a just reason to k..punish them, if they did not fight back and surrender that would be killing two birds with one stone.
For the traditionalist cum lawbreaker, weak or strong, coward or break, there would be justice for their wrongdoing. Maybe they would learn the meaning of Karma, what's go around comes around. The list for these group already finished long ago, only waiting for one word from David, if everything went according to their plan today would be the start but the morally saint Woden plea for mercy forced them to postpone the plan.
"I know, it just….Anyway, let's wait for Woden and listen to what he going to say. This petition was too formal, it's better to talk like how we were." David turned his gazed to the outside and slightly sighed.
Solo and David had the same frame of mind when they were dealing things, they would look for a practical and realistic way that is based on benefits rather than ideological considerations, and would use the quickest and most efficient methods in doing things. Although their appearance would not be older too much but with their mental age grew up, they were more and more pragmatic. But it was not like they turned into emotionless AI.
