Chapter 3: Chapter 2: An ever changing world

War. A thing of chaos and violence. Something almost unpredictable, and so very unlikely to happen in our greatest time of peace. 10,000 years have passed since the last great war- a war that caused such destruction to the world and its inhabitants. The cause being the introduction of "magic" and the Protector series.

But what is magic? What are the protectors? Simply put, man made horrors and power.

The magic came first- water, earth, air, frost and flame, nature, light and darkness - powers deviating from man wanting to reach a higher state of being. They became able to control the elements, and create limitless others from those. And so, that set in motion a series of chaotic events, changing the world forever.

Soon, all humans sought after the powers. They killed others in attempt to absorb it for themselves. And so, the men of science decided that there had been too much. So they took the lives of those who used their powers for good, and created artificial bodies. Living caskets, they were called by those who feared them. But they brought peace to the lands through fear.

That peace did not last long, however. Men who envied the powers of others manipulated the protectors, sent them to do their killing. War broke out soon after by those who resisted them, and the elements collided, causing mass destruction.

But the humans had somehow created a pact with the old creatures of the heavens, and those from the depths of hell. Yes indeed, Angels and Demons granted humans other abominable wishes. They granted new magics- curses and miracles.

While they fought on, there was a darkness growing. The Angels and Demons were the first to sense it, for they were creatures originating from light.

They sent messengers and tried to create a peace, but it was far too late. Many humans were consumed when it first appeared… the Beast from the Abyss. They simply ceased existing, and the rest fell back in shock and terror.

Their leaders called a ceasefire, and joined forces to repel the darkness and seal it back from where it came.

And through sheer force of will, they managed to overcome the disaster.

The humans decided to end their war, and to begin an age of peace to prevent any force from trying to destroy them.

-----------------------------

But that was 10,000 years ago. Now, the peace is wearing thin.

The Angels know it.

The Demons know it.

The humans do not know, yet something stirs within them.

And yet, these same humans crumble away their own peace through a new tyranny. Kings became emperors, rekindling their lust for power. However, they had learned from history, all the years peace had begun to fade, revealing the true face beneath it. They began to spread rumors, rumors which threw off the balance of the world. They hunted the hell-born and rejected the heavenly, accusing them for having ruined their world.

The Angels showed disdain for the humans, retreating back into the heavens, closing the door behind them for what might seem to be the last time.

The Demons retaliated, some rejecting the last of their sanity and falling into chaos. They managed to repel the humans, creating their own kingdom from the ashes of the fallen.

And yet, the humans did not stop. They grew more hateful for those marked by the demons, eradicating all of those who were bearers of a curse. Those who managed to get away sought refuge in the lands of the demons, and the unlucky ones were either killed or captured, never to be seen again.

Many years passed, and the chaos begun to settle down. Humans began worshiping those among them who had blessings from the Angels, passing it down from generation to generation. Humans became stronger with magic, enhancing their powers and creating new protectors. They developed specialized abilities, able to fight back against the new threats.

Life was simple again, kings and queens ruling over land granted by the emperor. The poor lived slow, stable lives in small villages, while the rich wasted away in the capital cities.

Many thousands of years have passed, yet none could sense the change within the earth itself, a dark haze growing ever thicker.

The world was soon to change again, and no one would see it coming.
