At exactly 6:00 AM, both men rushed to the apartment to wait for Carl. If he came out, then that would mean he's fine but if he doesn't, that would mean something bad had happened to him. Whatever the case, they were relieved because their boss had not called so they still had time to find out where Carl was. All this would have been easier if their boss gave them explicit order. At least they would know whether to knock on the door or not.
May be time decided to trek rather than fly, because it was like they had spent an eternity watching the entrance of the building, yet there was no sign of Carl. It was just past nine but the sun had turned hostile for no reason, making them sweat. It did not do to hide their nervousness. What if Carl had left the city? Wouldn't they be held responsible?
An older lady who had earlier seen them on her way to the market was surprised they were still in the same place as before. She watched them for a while and found their behaviour odd. She quickly took out her phone, dialed the emergency number. It was no secret what had happened previously, she had the responsibility not only to the society but to herself too to report suspicious activities within her surrounding. "Hello," she greeted, "I'm calling to report two suspicious men in my neighborhood…"
While the old lady conversed with the emergency line respondent, the men began arguing. "It's all your fault," the first man said. "How is it my fault?" Inquired the second man. It was both their duties to watch over Carl but they did not so the blame was both theirs. But was this really the best time to throw blame? "I told you to check on him just yesterday, if you had done that, we wouldn't be here now." The first man countered. Unknown to the two men who were still watching the entrance, while arguing, the police were on their way. "Really? If I had listened to you, may be I would be dead!" The second man yelled. He was really annoyed, though it was their jobs, they had been slacking but that did not mean they were absolutely clueless but this time around they couldn't even ask the neighbours because of what happened yesterday. They would come off as suspicious individuals besides, the robbers were still at large, there was even a rumour that it was not armed robbery but a fight between two rival gangs. With their looks, they could be taken as thugs.
Before they could register anything, they heard the sound of sirens, definitely the police. They turned to look in the direction of the siren when they saw the cops talking with an old lady and the lady was pointing at them. Without thinking, they made a run for it, and the police went after them.
Whilst the two men cussed at their luck, Carl and Kim were cuddling on the bed. Kim was feeling too lazy to move, as for Carl, he had earlier quit his job so there was no need to go to work. As for training, he pushed it aside for now. Getting closer to Kim was much more important than training. "I noticed you've stopped going to work, were you fired?" She asked, her fingers drawing circles on his side. "No," he replied, pulling her closer, he had not gotten enough of her yet, he did not want to talk about trivialities when all he wanted was to drink in her scent. "Then?"
"I quit."
She wasn't satisfied with his short replies so she pinched him. "Aww." He exclaimed. "What did I do?" She rolled her eyes at him, "Elaborate or else I'll do the same to you."
Sighing he replied, "I could not balance training and work so I quit."
She hit him on his chest this time around pushing him away. "Don't tell me you're so stupid you don't know your priority. Didn't you learn about scale of preference?" She scolded. How can you quit your job to do some stupid exercise? How would you continue living then?
"Will you stop hitting me? It hurts, besides it doesn't mean I have nothing."
"Then what do you have?" She asked. Before her mind could register anything, he pressed down on her, "If you're my girlfriend, I'll tell you." He teased while staring into her eyes. Her cheeks heated. His eyes made her uncomfortable, she squirmed under him as his breath hit her face. "You said you're mine and you consider me yours." She said pouting, trying to look away from him.
"Touché." Said Carl as he chuckled. He was enjoying her every reaction, so far, it feels like every hour is a step forward. "I have my own company." He said, brushing away her hair. "Get off me." Kim quickly pushed him away, he smirked before laying back down.
"Then why aren't at work." She threw another question at him. "I'm the boss and I prefer spending time with you." Before Kim could say anymore, he placed a kiss on her forehead. "Stealing kisses now, huh?" She asked, smiling. He closed his eyes, purring, "You can do the same to me too."
She was tempted to run her tongue over his lips but she did not, she threw the pillow at his face, "Kiss that!" She exclaimed running away. He chuckled, pushed the pillow away before going after her.
