Chapter 19: doing it on purpose
Back in her condo unit Sammie felt exhausted. She took a shower first then slip on her pajamas. After her nightly beauty routine, she climbed onto bed. Picked up her phone and turn on the alarm for the restaurant's soft opening when she received a call from a familiar number. "Hmm, why is Mr. Kim calling me at this hour?" she thought.
"Hello David, what's up?" she calls him by his first name only if they are outside the office.
"Sammie, I need your help." He sounded troubled.
She climbs down the bed and walk towards the balcony. "Why" is there something wrong?" she said worriedly.
"Eh… here is the thing, I need you tomorrow morning to accompany me in a meeting. Sally is in the hospital now because of gastroenteritis. I need you to substitute for her." He explained.
"But David I'm no longer part of the secretary's office. Besides there are other office assistant that can take her place." She was quite puzzled by his request. She is not part of their office anymore. After her promotion last year, she was transferred to the manager's office and no longer handles secretarial matters.
"Yeah I know. Rose is in maternity leave and we haven't found any replacement yet plus Miel is handling other office matter this weekend. You're the best substitute for Sally. And one more thing, it was President Lee who personally suggest you to come." He paused for a while waiting for her response. When she didn't say a thing he continued persuading her. "Sammie please… I know you are not busy during weekends. Can you give this one for me? Huh?" he pleaded.
Dumbfounded, Sammie was speechless. "Why would Martin Lee ask me to take her place? It's not like him?" she thought.
"David, are you sure it's President Lee? Don't dawdle with me?" she warned him.
"Yes, it's really President Lee. Then see you tomorrow. I will send you the details and email you a copy of the proposal later. Thank you Sammie. Goodnight." He hurriedly ended the call so she can no longer decline.
"But I do have… "the call was already ended. "Alright. Looks like I don't have any choice." She said then climbed back to her bed. She received a text message from Mr. Kim after a few seconds. [H restaurant VIP room 1 at 9 am]. She sets the alarm and put the cellphone on her bedside table.
She was lying on her bed but still can't relinquish the phone conversation with Mr. Kim. "I can't believe it. Why would he want me to attend that meeting? Is it because of the contract.?" She reached out for the other pillow and hugged it. "But he clearly said it will take effect on Monday. Is he doing it on purpose?" she turns around "Although David really doesn't have any one available for tom. Maybe I am over thinking." She calmed herself then pick up her phone.
[I won't make it on time tomorrow. I need to attend a meeting and can't say no. I'll rush there as soon as the meeting ended.] she messaged Cathy.
[Oh I see. Okay see you tomorrow. Goodnight.] after Cathy's reply she retire back to sleep.
The next morning Sammie woke up sluggishly should be early for the meeting. She had her breakfast while studying the proposal emailed by Mr. Kim. She then took a shower and dressed up. Sammie is wearing a blush collared button shift dress pair with high heels. The dress gives her a casual vibe but a charming aura. After drying her long black silky hair, she used a fancy ponytail transforming her hairstyle into a classy hairdo but more carefree and casual just like what she wanted. It's a totally different Sammie from her usual office outfit and hairstyle. She no longer needs to pretend.
She was escorted to the VIP Room 1 when she arrived H Restaurant. She is 20 minutes early no one is inside the room when she entered. She turned on her laptop and checked the list of the attendees in the meeting. Few minutes had past and soon the landowners arrived one after the other.
"Good morning. I'm Sammie Saavedra from LMK Corporation. President Lee is on his way please have a seat." She greeted them as they enter the door.
There are a total of 9 landowners. Two of them who holds the majority of land area already signed the contract in exchange stocks. As for the remaining they plan to buy their lands at a very tempting price. LMK Corporation will build a high end members exclusive Farm resort on that land so it's essential for them to acquire it.
Sammie is still waiting for the last landowner at the door when Mr. Kim and President Lee arrived. She dressed differently today so David was shocked to see her. He took a glimpse of President Lee but didn't see any change of reaction at all. It made him more confused.
Sammie saw the two approaching men both are staring at her. She first looks at David who seems confused then her sight shifts to the man at the back. He looks so domineering but is charming at the same time.
"Good Morning Mr. Kim" she greeted her with a smile.
"Good Morning Miss Saavedra." He stops in front of her and whisper "You look beautiful today. What are you up to ha?" He gave her a curious look. She just smiled and shook her head.
"Good Morning President Lee." she greeted him as he enters the door. He paused for a while and he looked at her in the eyes and just nodded. That gaze brings chills to her bones for an unknown reason.
She calmed herself then followed them at the table. Mr. Kim hand her the copy of the contract then she distributed it to the landowners.
"Mr. Kim Mr. Gonzalez is not yet here. Are we going to wait for him before we start?" she asked.
David then whispered something to President Lee then he moves back to Sammie. "Let's wait for 5 minutes more then we can start." He firmly said.
