Chapter 12: Fireflies Watching
People are gathering...
"They're a lot of people out here." Gold said. "We go by batch. I think those people are done watching fireflies and just hanging out for a while." She watched the people and glanced at Cale.
Gold couldn't believe she was with Cale like this after years of suffering without him. She suddenly remembers how it felt like. Her heart ached so bad that she had to squeeze her chest. (What Am I doing here with him?)
Cale held her hand and went to the line. "Calling for the last batch. Please line up. We're going in." The crew announced. Gold was lost in thoughts for a second but after seeing all the fireflies flying in a beautiful garden. She's back again. "Wow, this is sooo great."
"It is," Cale said while watching Gold admire the fireflies. Just watching her alone. Not the fireflies. Not the garden. Just Gold.
At the end of the garden, boats are waiting for them. Gold held Cale's face very close to her because of her excitement.
"We're going to ride a boat in the lake and watch fireflies?!"
"Yes, We got our own boat. Just for the two of us." Cale pinched her cheeks.
"Excuse me. Please come forward and hold onto me." The boatman said while stretching his arms to assist them.
Gold reaches her hand out to the boatman while Cale's supporting her back. She sat down with a smile on her face.
Cale sat in front of her and the boatman started rowing.
Everything's amazing. The lake is filled with happy people's gestures. The moon and the stars above shine so brightly and the fireflies fly around them making the most beautiful lights. Gold's eyes glimmer with satisfaction and Cale's watching her the whole time.
"This is so wonderful! Thank you... Ca." She couldn't continue after realizing that she was about to hug him out of excitement.
Gold almost forgot what she's been to after the break-up. (I think I'm becoming bipolar! Ugh! But this place is really nice. Why did I ever agree on this?!) She sighed.
"Is everything alright? Why are you suddenly sad?" Cale's worried.
"Oh no. No. I'm fine. I must be tired. That's all."
"Let's leave sooner then," Cale said.
"No. It's fine. Let's finish the time."
Cale held her hand. He felt Gold's hand finally grasping back. Her grip tightens a little. As if she doesn't want to let go of him anymore.
"Glaire and Kilk would love to see this. If only I knew we're gonna end up going here. I should have told them." she softly said. "We should have asked them. I saw them outside the church when I was looking for water. They look so good together."
Gold immediately faced Cale. (Goodness! They almost crashed Lark and Vara's wedding.) Gold couldn't take it. She laughed so hard. (Busted! Busy all day huh! I thought so!) "What's so funny?" Cale asked. "Nothing.." Gold kept laughing... She remembers how worried they were and Glair's last message. "Did I say anything funny?"
"Excuse me. We're heading back." the boatman interrupts.
They both agreed and thanked him.
"Thank you for joining us tonight. I hope you enjoyed fireflies watching with us. Have a good night, Everyone." The crew said and waved goodbye. "See you again soon"
Inside Cale's car...
Cale gave her water. "Take a nap. I'll get us to my Airbnb as soon as possible. So, you could get some rest." Gold closed her eyes. Trying to make herself feel better but it doesn't seem to help. She saw flashbacks of memories she didn't want to remember. She opened her eyes and watched the road as Cale drove until she finally fell asleep.
Cale opened the door at Gold's side. "We're here." She slowly opened her eyes. (I fell asleep.)
"Thank you for taking me fireflies watching Cale." she finally gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Please, take care of yourself." Gold added.
"Don't tell me you are leaving. Why don't you rest for the night?"
"I'll be fine. I can't stay Cale." She walked straight to her car. Shut the door and leave.
Cale stood there watching her leave.
Gold tears fell from her eyes. It just kept flowing that she had to pull over for a while and get herself together. She does want to stay and be with him but she's afraid that she'll get used to having him around and lose him all over again. She wiped her tears over and over again until she felt better. She took a deep breath and drove away.
