Chapter 36: C36 : The Guardian

• [Mary Geoise, on Red Line] {Year : 20.5} •

A large and thick gate with walls, cradling the World Nobles' residency as well as land that was as large as a large city in Earth would be, appeared before Ryu. He saw two guards were standing before the gate and a gatekeeper in the built-in-wall box beside the gate. They looked lazy and seemed to casually communicating between themselves with no fear of any World Nobles overhearing them.

"I pity those slaves that were recently brought in..." One of the guards, a large and slightly plump man in armor, said to the other guard.

"Yeah, they'll definitely be used for their nasty desires. There was even a malnourished and skinny old man too!" The other guard said. He was also plump but looked to be well at fighting. "That just makes me retch about what he'll be doing with them."

He made a disgusted face with his mouth opening, looking like to throw up. The slightly plump and large guard also made a similar face as well.

"Who was the one who bought him?"

"Huh? I think it was World Noble Donquixote Mjosgard...?"

After hearing that, the slightly plump and large guard made a understanding noise. "Ah, it's him. He's the World Noble that doesn't act like the others. World Noble Mjosgard usually acts humble and kind to specific people, he often buys pitiable slaves to provide them safety from others."

The other guard was surprised at this fact, having only recently became a World Nobles' Gate Security. Gate Security was created by the higher-ups of World Nobles to manage the gate and forced to obey their orders when they went out.

"So there is a World Noble who acts like one!"

The slightly plump and large guard nodded in agreement.

At this, Ryu understood it was the World Noble who went to retrieve his slave collection at Fishmen Island, but became humble and kind after meeting Queen Otohime and while returning to Mariejois. However, it was precisely due to this fact that Donquixote Mjosgard was often looked down by his fellow World Nobles, but didn't dare to try offend Donquixote Family of Celestial Dragons.

In the future, he was one of those World Nobles who tried to change their views to actually become a proper World Noble. It was unfortunate that Ryu was not in that time instead, now that he had the intention of razing Mariejois with terror.

"The Donquixote Family, huh?" Ryu chuckled. It was ironic that it was one of the families who actually changed and regained 'humanity' when Doflamingo, a former family member of it, was once a major villain that dealt a bit of high political power over the underworld. "Well, there's only Mjosgard and a few others."

He shook his head. There were only few humane World Nobles, moreover, they were oppressed with a few and Mjosgard being the 'safest' because their family name held high political power over the world.

This gave Ryu a thought.

'It's not them who made themselves strong, but the people of the world. It's the 'commoners' and others that made them strong and feared.' He frowned lightly before taking steps toward the gate, before shaking it off. Ryu took a glance over the World Nobles' Territory.

With a large and transparent bubble-like dome covering it, the air within it was extremely clean. Although the air within Mariejois was also clean, the World Nobles did not want to breathe the air outside the bubble-like dome over their territory, having the idea of different categories of 'air' itself.

Ryu sighed at how the descendants of nineteen kings of Twenty Kings who established World Government fell to this point. He was curious about the twentieth king whose descendants' information were nonexistent though. No information of their existence were visible to the general public, but even the Marines and Cipher Pol also didn't have anything.

Realizing he was already in the eyesight range of all three people of the gate, Ryu stopped his thoughts. "Hey."

The two guards casually turned their eyes to him, but was astonished when they met his green eyes. Ryu's presence was overwhelming unlike the Five Elders they'd had the chance to even grasp a sight of them. They never knew of anything about outside of Mariejois, so they didn't know how extremely dangerous Ryu was as they tried to carefully start a communication.

"Hello... Might we ask for your reason being here?" The slightly plump guard nervously asked. He then added after a moment. "As well as who you are?"

"Oh? You don't know?" Ryu was slightly surprised but understood that they probably were given a bit similar treatment as the Wano Country's citizens as to not knowing anything important about outside of Mariejois. Thinking for a second, he replied honestly. "I'm an pirate that the World Nobles began hating the moment I helped freeing their slaves as well as eliminating a few of their fellow World Nobles."

Although Ryu was simply answering, the two guards tensed. It was at this moment that both of them finally remembered who he was. As a member of Gate Security, they were always required to remember every faces and deeds of those who offended World Nobles, and Ryu's image was included there at top five.

The slightly plump guard sweated heavily, not knowing what to do except stand still. The other guard was also afraid but kept a calm composure of himself. Both of them decided that they would definitely easily die to him. After all, Ryu manhandled one of the Four f*cking Emperors of the Sea, Beast Emperor Kaido. They weren't so high up in the head that they'd so arrogantly assume that they were immensely stronger than anyone just because they were working for World Nobles.

"So?" Ryu curiously asked them. "What are you going to do now?"

"...We're going to do our jobs, of course." The slightly plump guard shook his head and forced himself to stand straighter. The other guard prespired all over while glancing at the gatekeeper inside.

The gatekeeper looked frightened enough that he froze in place. His mind was blank as he considered the situation. 'One of few rare pirates that World Nobles absolutely loathes and demands his body is here... He's even in top five out of over twenty people!'

Ryu casually looked at them with a small smile on his handsome face. "Go ahead and keep doing your jobs. I'll just be entering."

"Eh?" Both of the guards looked confused but Ryu suddenly disappeared and they blankly looked at the spot where he had been, going into a daze.

The gatekeeper finally snapped out of it and promptly shouted at the guards while ruffling around the interior of his gatekeeping build. "You idiots! Even if that pirate didn't kill us, it's more better than being found out that we left him alone by the World Nobles!"

This snapped both of them as well and they panicked as well. The slightly plump guard immediately moved. "Sh*t!"

The other guard watched as he ran into the territory of World Nobles. He deeply sighed as he looked at the clouds roaming outside. "This day sucks!"

After saying that, he began following after his fellow guard. The gatekeeper rolled his eyes in agreement then he finally paused in his search within the gatekeeping build.

"It's been a long time since this was pressed!" He gritted his teeth before resolutely pushing a small blue button somewhere inside the building. The gatekeeper quickly left it afterwards.

It was at this time that a large blaring sound rang within Mariejois.

Ryu reappeared somewhere inside the huge territory of World Nobles. He took a single glance before moving around. "Strange. I don't sense anyone inside their building."

Without even actively using Observation Haki, Ryu already sensed the nearby houses and buildings void of their residents and slaves.

Well, there were few slaves inside their respective buildings but they weren't any World Nobles near them, only guards to keep them in order. Ryu spread out his Observation Haki in a discreet way.

He finally found few World Nobles inside their residence deep near the center of the territory of World Nobles. After that, Ryu felt plenty of presences in an large building that resembled to an assembly from his home world. Built tall and very large to make its center spacious, World Nobles either were in their respective private rooms or casually communicating between themselves in the center where a lot of chairs laid.

They were watching a special projection of the war from distance. A few of World Nobles got the news of a war between their World Government and the infamous pirates, one of them being Whitebeard, whom they detested.

Ryu smirked. Since there were a lot of World Nobles in a single building, it made his intention easier.

Within the large assembly...

"Tch! That little sh*t thought it could talk back to me, so I decided to throw it off the cliff." A World Noble said to both of his neighboring chairs. He donned a largely slicked-back hair that went to the back of his neck and the usual outfit of World Nobles would have when outing.

Every other World Nobles in the assembly also wore it, the only differences between each being their familia symbols that hanged on their chest and body appearances.

The World Noble who spoke had a orange withering leaf symbol. "Its screams was so delightful that I just had to do it again with other slaves. That's why I have a low count of slaves!"

He grumbled at the snickering World Nobles near him. When his brother, sitting beside him, also laughed, the World Noble twisted his face in annoyance.

"Why are you laughing as well, my dear brother?" His sweet smile and tone showed that he was really annoyed and was going to expose his brother's secrets.

"Eh? Ah! No, I wasn't laughing at you! I was just thinking of the time when our honorable father walked in and joined you!" His brother quickly spoke to pacify him. "Remember when honorable father nearly slipped and had to pull his servant to trade their positions? H-haha!"

The slicked-back hair World Noble's mouth slightly curled up and chuckled in remembrance. "Ah, yes! That was quite funny, indeed."

Both of them continued to talk in loud tone purposely so that they could make connections to other World Nobles' familia. Their intentions were not hidden, but the World Nobles around them didn't mind making the connection... for their individual future purposes.

As they communicated between themselves, inside a private room that looked over the whole spacious center where many World Nobles resided currently, a World Noble gazed at the projection being broadcasted now.

"Edward Newgate..." Spoken in a heavy distaste, the World Noble rubbed her blue eyes. "Ugh, I have to clean my beautiful eyes again. Not like I'm not used to it anyways..."

"Dear sister, what is with that thing?" A underage World Noble looked innocent as she pointed at Edward Newgate's figure. She continued in a innocent tone, completely not knowing that she was speaking in a way like she was above everyone but her family. "Has it offended you before? Shall we punish it with the black thingie before?"

"Oh, darling sister, you're such a blessing to my life!" The older female World Noble gushed and pulled her little sister into a hug. The little sister smugly hugged back as if she was doing her a favor. "You don't have to worry about it, alright? Just focus on your teachings~!"

"Hehe, okay!" The younger female World Noble giggled and nodded, she turned to the front of her. She scrunched her brows into annoyance when she remembered what exactly she was doing. "Agh! But dear sister, I have been doing this a lot, why can't I move on to the next one?"

The older female World Noble shrugged her shoulders and patted her little sister's head. "I don't know, honorable mother also taught me like this way, so don't think you were the only person who was like this."

"Fine~!" The younger female World Noble pouted then brought up a large butcher knife. She swung upwards and slammed it onto a disfigured hand on the table. She continued to do as her older sister proudly looked at her results.

The whole assembly suddenly flickered in light everywhere, startling few of the World Nobles for a moment before they snorted. One of them said. "Stupid objects. They're not taking care of those slaves."

The others nodded in agreement, murmuring between themselves. The whole mechanics powered in the Domain of the Gods were made by slaves and overseers watching them. However, they didn't know that it was Ryu's Observation Haki that caused the flicker because of its raw power when actively used.

The projection that had been recording the War of the Best in Marineford abruptly flashed black before shutting down with Whitebeard seen escaping with Portgas D. Ace successfully. The few World Nobles in their private rooms either scrunched their brows in disdain at how Marines failed and/or scoffed and stood up to leave. Just when everyone in the assembly were about to start bad mouth World Government that they had power over, the assembly lost its power.

Darkness was all they could see for a few seconds until their eyes adjusted accordingly. They panicked in confusion. Most of them quickly calmed themselves, thinking that no one would be so bold to invade them.

"Well, well..." The ominous voice resounded in the whole assembly, shocking them. They darted their eyes everywhere to find its source. "What do we have here... Plenty of fools!"

"Y-you insolent man! How dare you try frighten us with such tricks?!" A World Noble with long blue hair stammered out as he slowly became red in face with haughty anger. Few others also followed and jeered at the ominous voice when it went quiet for few minutes. "Ha! Afraid to even appear before your betters?!"

"...Well, since you asked so kindly..." The ominous voice returned and chuckled. But this time, the voice seemed so close and clear to that World Noble who began.

The long blue-haired World Noble shook and immediately screamed as he pedaled his feet forward, hearing it right behind him. "It's behind me! It's behind me! Get it!"

The large assembly's light flickered and turned on. What everyone inside saw was a handsome man with green eyes in an casual pirate outfit.

'Such beautiful green eyes...!' A short and plump World Noble drooled within his private room, gazing down the crystal clear window to the center. "Guards! Get him, I shall collect those jade-like eyes to my eyes collection!"

That was when the green-eyed handsome man chuckled and looked at the private room that the short and plump World Noble was in. "Guards? There isn't any here now."

The handsome man stretched his neck.

"Right now, they should be stuck outside of the door, trying to figure out why they can't open it." He pointed at the entrance of the assembly. The handsome man glanced around, stopping upon a World Noble. "There you are."

The particular World Noble looked grim and slightly afraid as the green-eyed handsome man walked to him. He sighed heavily before saying. "Why have you come here, Solitary Pirate?"

This elicited responses from his fellow World Nobles. "He's the Solitary Pirate!?", "How did that b*stard get in here!?", "Those dumb guards can't do a single thing...", "Ha! The Solitary Pirate? We can finally get him now!", "Such an audacious pirate, daring to enter the Domain of Gods!"

"Haha... You're all more ridiculous than expected!" Ryu chuckled before he grinned towards the long blue-haired World Noble, frightening him. "Say, you're a World Noble right? Just like the others here."

The World Noble didn't answer or budge a bit even as Ryu's stare continued.

"Have we ever met? I find you familiar."

"...You...!" The long blue-haired World Noble's face twisted in hatred and anger towards the Solitary Pirate. "You dare say that?! After what you have done to my honorable parents?!"

"Parents?" Ryu thought for a few seconds before remembering a distant memory where he struck down a Celestial Dragon's ship with three World Nobles within it. "Ah. So you're their child."

He pityingly looked at him, yet his posture didn't say the same as it adjusted to a battle-ready stance. Ryu then sharply looked up at the ceiling right when it cracked and broke into pieces, sending the World Nobles into a mass panic, running for their lives.

The long blue-haired World Noble, however, didn't move and stood still as he angrily glared at the Solitary Pirate who was about 15 feet away from him. He swore to himself that he'd avenge his parents' unfair death back then and he wasn't going to run away when he was in front of him.

Just when the debris of ceiling crashed upon the floor, a large shadow suddenly swooped in and slammed in front of Ryu. With his silver hair tied into a ponytail, his beard lightly swayed in amidst the clamoring. "Young man..."

When the large assembly crumbled into pieces, a sharp loud blaring sound resounded the whole campus. It was the same sound as when the gatekeeper pressed the high-emergency button at the gates. Its sound was so sharp that it startled the World Nobles who had been inside the building, not having had heard it. Ryu simply looked at the large figure with silver ponytailed hair and beard. This man's pressure was slowly growing and it was strong enough to mistake him as an Emperor of New World.

"Who are you?" Ryu frowned, not remembering him. He also didn't even know of his presence until he was close. This was only possible if they were far stronger than him, had an extremely good expertise in stealth, or the man had an object that helped concealing his presence.

The fact that his combat prowess was currently sealed also helped.

The large man rose one of his eyebrows when he saw that the Solitary Pirate didn't falter before him. He was about to open his mouth when the long blue-haired World Noble demanded behind him. "You guard, get him right this instant!"

"..." The silver-ponytailed hair large man frowned and lightly grabbed his sword on the side of his waist before clinking it in. "Just as I was going to speak..."

"U-ugh!" The long blue-haired World Noble suddenly grabbed his throat and gurgled as blood spewed out of it. "Wh-wha...?!"

His confused eyes did not escape the large-figured man. "You think I'm a mere guard for you to order around like a servant to their god? Ha!"

The silver-ponytailed hair and large man turned around unhesitatingly, even though the Solitary Pirate could strike him there. When he turned and revealed himself to the World Nobles though, they clammed their mouth and refused to even make an eye contact with him. The sole reason being a small fragile-like badge hanging on his left chest.

It appeared to have aged through countless centuries and slowly began to deteriorate, yet it radiated unseen pressure on those World Nobles. The large man chuckled, ridiculing them.

"Pathetic excuses of Celestial Dragons' descendants... To think I even thought you all would change and become people of True Justice like them."

He sighed in sadness when he mentioned them. The Twenty Kings who collaborated together to create peace through World Government and was successful at one period, yet their descendants changed their ideology—letting people's reverences go up to their mind wrongfully.

"I pity your ancestors; they died while hoping that the World Government would preserve a peaceful period." He sighed before turning around to the Solitary Pirate. His right hand which laid on the hilt of his choice of weapon, a katana, slightly tensed in preparation. He knew that this young man was not weak and quite strong. "Now, young man... Care to explain why you trespassed the domain I've guarded for centuries as the Guardian?"

"Centuries?" Ryu rose one of his eyebrow in curiosity. This man guarded the territory for centuries, which meant he was from Void Century and perhaps even further. He shook his head before answering. "I planned to raze the place into pieces, then, from the shadows, I'd watch the World Nobles crumble into despair. They'd be forced to either find an absolutely new area to create a new 'Domain of the Gods' or forced to lower themselves. In short... it's all for my entertainment."

Although he said so, Ryu was partially telling truth while giving secondary reason. The silver-haired Guardian noticed this but said nothing of it as he slowly gripped the hilt of katana on his waist. "Well... what's your intent now?"

The Guardian understood from Ryu's way of wording that he changed his plans when he himself entered the scene. The Solitary Pirate grinned. "What else?"

His battle intent immediately blared and his thirst for battle made itself known to the Guardian whom was slightly surprised. The World Nobles nearby who were still clamoring and running away felt themselves stifled and had a difficult time breathing even as some of them released their bowels.

"You understand now, right?" The Solitary Pirate's green eyes brimmed with a light glow as he summoned a ordinary sword into his hand. It'd be really ordinary if not for his cultivation of Sword Force. Just when he was about to open his mouth again, an immense trembling suddenly shook the Red Line as whole.

*rumble*

The silver-haired and large Guardian had his eyes widen by slightly but immediately returned to its normal casual state. "Hmm... World-breaking potential, eh?"

Ryu rolled his eyes before saying. "Let's just start already. You seem strong enough, so I'll go close to all out..."

"Oh? You're saying that you're not going all out? Aren't you underestimating me?"

"No, if anything, I'm overestimating you." The Solitary Pirate chuckled before disappearing.

The Guardian's mouth jerked upwards before he swung his katana out of its stealth and clashed midway.

*szzzh~*

*woosh*

The surroundings was blown away from the force that Ryu used. Ryu's figure appeared right before the katana with his ordinary-looking sword clashing against it. He grinned. "As I thought, you're stronger than the Emperors of New World."

"They are simply fledglings before me. After all, I have far more experience in battles... wars even." The Guardian snorted. Comparing him, whom has outlived the four Emperors' years combined, to them? That was as if four ants was being compared to an lion; the lion being capable of stomping on the four ants easily. "I suggest we go elsewhere, since I do not want the Red Line to be cleaved into halves if I get serious."

Ryu was about to speak when the Guardian abruptly jumped backwards and took a step before disappearing in a quick movement.

"..." The Solitary Pirate groaned and made a quick decision before also vanishing and followed the silver-haired and large Guardian to elsewhere. The World Nobles could always await for their destruction while cowering in fear and looking over their shoulders for his sharp and green eyes before their death. 'Not like I wouldn't be able to escape if needed anyways...'
