Chapter 34: C34 : War of the Best |Part 7|

• [Marineford, near Red Line] {Year : 20.5} •

Even though the Marineford was supposedly resistant to a portion of Whitebeard's shockwaves, it couldn't now resist it because of its increasing pressure. It would've made a huge dent into the walls made out of Wapometal that had prevented people from getting onto the Oxis Plaza, the huge empty and plain scaffold.

The Marines were unwilling to die here right when Whitebeard Pirates retreated with Portgas D. Ace in their arms, so they became bloodshot and forced themselves away from Whitebeard's intense pressure.

As they tried, the five Warlords of the Sea frowned. Hancock wasn't particularly caring that Marineford would crumble here but she was on it... So she decided to leave the battlefield on the basis of chasing the retreating pirates with Ace. "Salome, let's go."

Salome, her large Snake Weapon, nodded while flicking her tongue. Hancock got onto her and the large snake slithered their way out. The Marines in her way either moved out of the way and/or went in a daze at how graceful she was leaving, before snapping out of it and following her as well. After all, she would need a group of Marines to help her fight against the Whitebeard Pirates, right?

Boa Hancock rolled her eyes but did nothing to stop them. She could always turn them into stone statues later on one of the Marine Battleship.

While the Pirate Empress successfully made her exit, Bartholomew Kuma took difficult steps. Slamming onto the ground every time he did, he sighed in annoyance. "They were right... Having such body annoys me."

When he took a glance around, a frighteningly large-headed man in a queer suit ran towards him. His arms blurred as he angrily ran at Bartholomew. The Paw Paw Fruit user confusedly looked back.

'Why is he here?'

"Kuuummmaaa!" The queer-suited and large-headed man yelled at him with a glare. Finally arriving to his side, he panted slightly. "...What's going on with you?!"

Bartholomew Kuma took a moment to think, understanding what he meant. "Ivankov... You as well, what are you doing here instead of Impel Down?"

Seeing that he did not answer and instead asked a question in response, Ivankov revealed his sharp hormone-changing needles. He threatened. "You better explain your situation after we get out of here, alright!"

Kuma just gave a curt nod, not really afraid due to the fact that he was nearly completely mechanical. "Of course. However, where is he?"

He looked around, looking for a specific person but did not find him, so he asked. Ivankov scoffed and reeled in his sharp needles. "He's already running for his dear sworn brother. It's unfortunate that he did not even bother to... never mind. Let's go now!"

At the end of his dialogue, Ivankov appeared to be panicking and Kuma understood why. The pressure was increasing immensely and quickly even at this distance, so they began to run with Kuma being supported by Ivankov.

Gecko Moria was still in his rampage mode, having lost his sanity and became unable to process his own thoughts. He swished for another shadow and grabbed it until it 'popped'. Many red-eyed shadows already killed tens of Marines' Officers, with very few pirates due to the fact that they already retreated. However, his own shadow appeared to be grinning widely as it slowly rose onto Gecko Moriah's body. His whole body was slowly becoming completely black until his shadow covered it fully. With that, Gecko Moriah suddenly froze and looked like he was lost before his shadow revealed a large white teeth. The shadow then opened its mouth and 'spoke'.

"Full Awakening!"

The body of Gecko Moriah shifted and changed into a average-sized humanoid but was still completely cladded in blackness. The shadow of Gecko Moriah appeared to checked itself out before smirking. He glanced around and noticed that it would be dangerous for it to stay here, so it slowly fell into the ground, disappearing. It also quietly spoke as it sneered at the people around.

"Our vengeance will start soon, you humans...!"

While the shadow-controlled Gecko Moriah disappeared from the scene, Doflamingo Donquixote scowled at Whitebeard, but could do nothing as he also retreated. He wasn't going to die due to his foolish confidence, so he swung his fingers before flying upwards with the assistance of his strings that were connected to clouds in the sky. Few people who were around him suddenly froze and horizontal lines of blood seeping out of them appeared on their bodies, their split-into-pieces bodies falling onto the ground.

Doflamingo frowned as he sat on one of his barely-visible strings in the sky, far above the Marineford. "I'll at least watch it crumble into pieces."

He took a look over what he gathered into his hands. They were Strings of Life, but appeared to be fragile as they wiggled.

"They're all barely decent in New World..."

Then he sighed before storing them inside a spot within his body. Even though they were useless, they'd still could be used for quantity. Doflamingo looked around and noticed that Whitebeard didn't even seem to be tired the slightest. He irritably frowned, with a twitch of his eyebrows.

The fact that he even thought of taking a String of Life from Whitebeard made him want to smack himself for risking his death.

"Damn monster."

As Doflamingo watched upon the huge island from above, Dracule Mihawk felt the bisento's immense tremors' pressure but this was small compared to Ryu's anger. Once, he'd seen him in anger for some reason and Ryu's very being screamed at him to scram or he would die instantly without knowing how. Mihawk knew this was one of the rare times when the Solitary Pirate ever released his anger.

In a way, he was thankful to Ryu, because he could brush away any pressure even few certain people's Conqueror's Haki a bit. Mihawk swore to himself then, he wouldn't even dare to entice Ryu's anger or be involved at all. He looked around and saw that pirates were nearly finished retreating so he decided it was time for him to leave as well.

The moment he took steps, few red-eyed shadows sprinted towards him. Dracule Mohawk frowned before using his Yoru to eliminate them. After he finished, he only remembered now that he had created a sword.

"Hmm?" He immediately looked around, but did not find it until seeing it near Whitebeard's location. It was impaled into the ground, looking fresh. Mihawk really wanted to call it back but he did not because it would be risky with them around. Sighing in pity, he turned and began to leave. "Forget it... It'll choose its wielder."

As he left, the lone and newly-created Legendary Sword radiated pressure in response to Whitebeard's, creating a repelling force around it. Due to this, the new Legendary Sword took no damage at all and remained impaled in the ground, protecting itself in its own small dome. The ground that it was impaled, did not appear to be breaking apart either and only remained the same as if becoming a stand for the new Legendary Sword.

The trembling air slowly spread out cracks from where he was as small debris slightly rose around Whitebeard. He took his time doing this because if he immediately finished it, casualties from his side would happen so he patiently waited along with Murakumogiri.

"I have a question..." Whitebeard began while shortly looking around the Marineford. "Have you sent families of the Marines away from Marineford?"

It was just a mere question but one that made Fleet Admiral Sengoku tensed up and a bit of relief. Tensed because it meant that Whitebeard was really aiming to destroy the whole huge island they were on; relief because he already ordered his men to send their families away because of the war.

Whitebeard noticed this and gave a small smile before resuming. Using his Observation's Haki, he noticed that his side were finished retreating while few of Warlords were still on their way exit. In the end, he began to go all-out.

It was rare for him to do so because Tremor Tremor Fruit was really destructive; as said before, it could probably destroy a huge portion of the world.

"They've left."

A short statement that made the Admirals rush their way towards him while the Fleet Admiral became grim as Whitebeard brought his bisento upwards. Sengoku stated in a short breath. "You'll fall with us if you're going to do this."

The Emperor of New World snorted at him. "As if."

"Admirals!" Sengoku ignored him and shouted at the three Admirals nearing Whitebeard. The three Admirals were in a triangle position with Whitebeard in the center when they made their moves.

Akainu didn't bother to respond as he blew his right arm towards the Strongest Man in the World, enlarging it.

"Go and feast upon their bodies, Magma Hound!"

*Snarl!*

His right arm that turned into completely magma appeared to have its own sentient ability as it shot towards Whitebeard itself. As it moved, its front abruptly changed into that of a dog's head with heated teeth in its mouth.

*Wisshhh~*

Its speed also slowly increased and became similar to a bullet to its target.

Admiral Kuzan, who had won the battle against Diamond Jozu by completely freezing him to the cells, immediately rose his arm towards the sky and shouted from his side of Whitebeard.

"Devastation of Ice's Chill!"

*woosh*

Instead of any ice projectiles, visible gushes of bone-chilling air were seen emitting from his body. He became a sort of instantaneous air conditioning, making any air that goes around him extremely cold. Kuzan then held out his Ice Model: Saber clad in Armament Haki in a slashing stance. He swung upwards when seeing that most of Marines were not near him.

"Glacial Cleaver!"

*TSSS~*

In the direction of the saber's swing, sharp and thin ice debris shot off in a straight path and shortly afterwards, they increased in height rapidly when nearing its target. Due to the bone-chilling air around Kuzan, the ice debris slightly spread out and were faster than usual.

Standing at the other side of Whitebeard, Admiral Kizaru smirked at the sight of magma and ice clashing against each other before even reaching Whitebeard. Because they both were going all-out, they let go of their control on their devil fruit's nature. Even so, their attacks did not weaken each others'.

He took a quick look at Whitebeard's movement, only seeing that he still had his emotionless face while slowly moving Murakumogiri upon Marineford. Admiral Kizaru sighed in an annoyed manner. He didn't sign up for this, especially the times with Solitary Pirate... Just remembering this pissed him off to the smithereens so he used his annoyance into this one single attack directed towards the Strongest Man on the World and Man Closest to One Piece.

Kizaru raised both of his hands and faced them to each others at his chest level. His arms were pushed outwards, not even daring to move it close to him in risk of accidentally losing control of it. His hands then made a circle with huge gap in middle of each hands.

Slowly, a dim yellow light sparked in middle of his two hands. It wasn't bright enough to capture anyone's attention but onlookers paid attention to the three Admirals, including him. No one knew what he was doing as he slowly began to dimly glow around his body, outlining it. It was dim but visible enough for normal people see.

Kizaru puffed out his mouth as he said. "Thinking about your strength, I feel like it has to do with that man."

Whitebeard showed no response at all, simply focusing on himself. The onlookers were confused and curious to how Whitebeard was still so strong. They had assumed that his strength would deteriorate as he aged but it was completely opposite. Now Admiral Kizaru was saying someone helped, but who exactly?

Seeing no response, Admiral Kizaru shrugged and became nonchalant, but internally, he was raging. Even though he was internally raging against a miniature and cartooned 'Ryu', Kizaru did not lose focus as he slowly split his hands. The dim light began to glow brightly accordingly; the farther they were, the brighter it becomes.

Kizaru only held his hands to the sides of his chest range with a light orb brimming brightly in middle. The light was so bright that onlookers had to blink for a bit to get used to it, similar to waking up to the bright sun. After finishing manifesting it, he suddenly 'let go' of it and making the light orb fall.

He slowly rose one of his leg, cladding it in Armament Haki while he was at it. The light orb collided with his leg and bounced in a way that a literal soccer ball would. As he continued to kick it upwards, another small orb appeared inside it. It also slowly turned bright and visible with no transparency. It darted within the light orb and continued to do so until it appeared to be countless lines inside, making a star shape.

With a star appearing in the light orb, Admiral Kizaru suddenly shifted and turned serious. His arms moved as he kicked the light orb upwards and slightly forward. At the maximum speed of light possible, he twisted and turned around with his leg out for the light orb while it was mid-air.

"I haven't named this ability of mine yet, but I guess I'll call it a Star-Ball for now."

The light orb shot off in high-speed that it pierced through the air; rippling air appeared around it. Even though Admiral Akainu made the move first, Admiral Kizaru's attack was faster than the others and reached Whitebeard's range already.

Whitebeard immediately sensed it and felt the slight threatening danger inside it, the 'star'-shaped lines in the light orb. Due to this, he quickly pulled out his bisento and slammed it downwards again.

*BOOM*

It rippled throughout the Marineford, toppling over several hundreds of Marines and destroying several debris that were already split from its former shape. The Star-Ball faltered slightly and moved a bit away from its original path due to the rippling trembles sent from Whitebeard.

'I guess I'll finish it up now...' Whitebeard sighed, having felt the threat the Admirals' moves could do to him. After all, he still needed to keep his promise of spanking his son. His eyes became cold as he looked at the Fleet Admiral of Marines.

Sengoku's body was immediately covered in cold chills. He gritted his teeth and began to run towards Whitebeard regardless of Admirals' attacks. "Whitebeard!!!"

Whitebeard did not even look at him, his shadow overlaying his head and upper torso. Murakumogiri had cracks all over yet still sustained throughout the immense trembling. The three attacks of Admirals and Fleet Admiral rushing towards him were getting closer; that was when he made his next move.

"Split and wreak havoc upon our enemies' domain!"

Right after that, Whitebeard immediately let go of his bisento as it split itself while moving in mid-air together in the same single spot. Murakumogiri instantly gained its own consciousness, although its sole goal was to only to split and spread out the destruction as its host wished.

Whitebeard did not even dare to delay himself from retreating. He turned and rushed forward towards his crew's main flagship, Moby Dick. Even his legs stomped over the ground and no one could stop him in such quick manner. He was already halfway towards his crew who were waving over at him, yelling to be careful and quick.

The now-split-into-pieces bisento slowly hovered upwards and trembled. Whitebeard had stored tremors within it and now it was going to be unleashed completely without any restraints.

The Fleet Admiral understood this and hesitated for a second before becoming resolute in his steps to those. He was going to do something suicidal.

The three Admirals' attacks kept onwards to the pieces of Murakumogiri. Admiral Akainu's Magma Hound fidgeted when it realized that its original target wasn't there anymore but still continued on because it felt that its user would probably be greatly injured if those pieces were to split far away from each others and crumbled, unleashing the immense tremors stored within.

The Glacier Cleaver also did not stop and moved straight at the pieces of Murakumogiri, freezing and destroying everything in its path. Although it appeared to be fragile due to its incredibly thinness, it proved to be quite destructive and frightening by its freezing ability. It froze everything, from the outside to the inside. Kuzan, however, knew that it would crumble before the tremors sent by the pieces of Murakumogiri.

He sighed and turned around to his men, before ordering. "You all, hurry up and retreat... Help the others while you're at it too."

They didn't delay that order, having already thought of it. Admiral Kuzan glanced around the battlefield and saw that it was rid of surviving pirates, only leaving very few dead ones due to the haste. The five Warlords had already left Marineford, showing that they did not care about it. He shook his head as he left the area that had immense chilling temperature due to his moves.

Admiral Kizaru looked annoyed and unwilling to just waste his Star-Ball, so he dissipated into light particles before they each shot off to their respective directions where reflections were at. They made random path until it collided to one spot together and made the figure of Kizaru, manifesting himself. That one spot was close to Moby Dick, where most of Whitebeard Pirates gathered at.

He smirked and glanced at Whitebeard. The Star-Ball that had been near the pieces of Murakumogiri was suddenly sent hurling towards Kizaru, like a yo-yo. Admiral Kizaru said to Whitebeard. "Mind if I crush Moby Dick?"

The light orb broke through the air and the light inside it began to brim brightly as it closed to the Moby Dick. The pirates on it moved to defend, as well as readying themselves for impact. They didn't even hesitate to put their lives at risk while Whitebeard was near.

Because of this, Whitebeard's mouth curled upward, glad he had such family. He took a quick look at Star-Ball brought by Kizaru and remembered that it had a threatening feeling that he quickly progressed the destruction of Marineford. He snorted as he changed his direction and ran towards it. "People are growing stronger than past... Even so, I'll always protect my allies and family."

Whitebeard hastened himself when he determined that the light orb was too fast for him. Without any risk of destroying the ground he was above, he readied his fist by pulling it and slightly twisting his torso to the side.

Admiral Kizaru knew what he was about to do, after all it was a move he often used when battling, so he clasped his hands together and called. "Light Sword!"

The Light Sword, a long, sharp, and glowing light-sword with a star-like handle, immediately appeared and he grasped its handle while quickly running towards Whitebeard's behind. He did not stop even while the few pirates on Moby Dick shot their weapons at him.

"Armament Haki!"

Because his mastery of Armament Haki wasn't yet high enough for actual coating of armament, nothing could be seen but an invisible coating of armor-like was manifested on his hands, which slowly grew to his Light Sword. Its glow colour also slightly changed to darker yellow, showing that it was coated with Armament Haki, though with low power boost.

Whitebeard sensed his approach, however, he did nothing to stop him. Admiral Kizaru's mastery of Armament Haki wasn't high enough to even thoroughly cut his body, so he didn't pay any attention to his Light Sword. But his battle-hardened mind still subconsciously coated his back in Armament Haki. Even though it was subconscious, it was strong enough to stop most of attacks.

He saw that the other commanders of his crew, Whitebeard Pirates, already used their respective moves to block the Star-Ball, but most of them dissipated when the light orb made contact with it. Whitebeard realized that it would definitely do a lot damage to his main flagship as well as his family on it. He gritted his teeth and sped up, even as Kizaru finally arrive to his back and began to strike him.

"Just fall and stay still forever!" Admiral Kizaru shouted in annoyance, his mastery of Armament Haki failing to even make a crack on Whitebeard's strong Armament Haki. The Light Sword with slight darker yellow glow in his hands barely did anything except distract Whitebeard by a bit because of its annoyance.

Understanding this, Kizaru dispelled Light Sword and quickly moved his hands together with a circular gap in middle of both. He aimed it at several reflective shards around him and Whitebeard.

"Blinding Reflections!"

A extremely bright light beam appeared out of the middle of his hands that split into several smaller beams to the reflective shards. Unlike a normal light beam, this one was completely white with a bit of light yellow glow and appeared to be harmless.

The white and harmless light beam connected with the reflective shards and immediately shot towards Whitebeard's front, as well as his eyes.

Struck with blinding light, Whitebeard closed his eyelids but did not stop moving. He went through many different and countless battles that made him battle-hardened and experienced with changes. As he adjusted to his current situation, he swiftly switched to his Observation Haki to find the Star-Ball.

Whitebeard easily found it due to his mastery of Observation Haki, high enough to see the rough 'outlines' of his current area and range. As he neared the light orb that was also nearing Moby Dick, the pieces of Murakumogiri suddenly froze in middle of the air, not even hovering lightly.

The Magma Hound of Admiral Akainu 'trembled in fear' and appeared to have hastened itself.

"What...?" Admiral Akainu was slightly confused to this because it never did anything like that in all of the past usage of Magma Hound.

Admiral Kuzan's Glacier Cleaver did not change at all, it continued onward to the pieces of Murakumogiri, the bisento. Both of those attacks neared each others and Magma Hound noticed. Seeing that there was an total opposite element beside it, it didn't do anything except changing its direction slightly to Glacier Cleaver's path. Kuzan saw this movement and was surprised because the Magma Hound's heat didn't affect his Glacier Cleaver when normally it should by a bit.

"...It's trying to merge?!" Admiral Kuzan realized after a moment. It was also at this point that Magma Hound did indeed attempt to merge with Glacier Cleaver. Because of this, his bad foreboding grew for the worse as his eyes darted to the pieces of Murakumogiri. "It's going to be too destructive that the Magma Hound is instinctively attempting to merge with my attack..."

Sweating because of the possible danger, Admiral Kuzan shouted at the Fleet Admiral of Marines.

"Sengoku! Get away from it, you won't come out of it unscathed!"

Fleet Admiral Sengoku heard and frowned slightly. He stopped his approach and made a skidding effect on the ground due to his speed and heaviness. When he turned to ask what he meant, his back was immediately covered in cold sweats and he trembled with wide eyes. His danger senses were screaming at him to immediately get out, so he did just that. His instincts were built over battles and his predictions, as well as honing his Observation Haki. Sengoku had no reason to refuse to retreat because most of the Marines' Officers were already in their respective battle-ships.

Few of the Marines' Battle Ships were already shooting off their cannons toward the pirates' ships. Both sides fought from distance, few were only willing to sacrifice themselves to get on their opposing side' ships to wreck destruction.

The Magma Hound successfully merged with Glacier Cleaver. Its volcanic lava circling the sharp, thin, and chilling projectile, together, its effect would definitely do quite a lot of damage. Even more so when both elements weren't opposing each other.
