"Now really isn't a good time man, I'm pretty busy", I said to the golden paladin as I quickly pulled out a copy scroll and a minor soulstone and activated it.
" What are you doing!?" Lord Justice demanded as he tried to look at the scroll.
"Its just a detect magic scroll, you can never be to careful. ", I lied my ass off.
Unlike when facing the elementals, the copy scroll instantly had an incredibly complicated rune completed upon it.
"Haha! Instant cast spells! Power of the avatars indeed!" I thought to myself as I quickly read the description, rolled it up and put it away.
Selective Invisibility(Avatar)-Lasts 1 day. Caster and up to three targets becomes invisible to all, even other avatars. No form of vision or anti-stealth will reveal caster. Caster can choose targets to reveal himself to, will not drop invisibility. Only targets chosen can see or hear caster.
Holy shit! That's OP! I had hoped to catch one of the Avatars abilities but I didn't expect it to actually work.
"I guess your alone then. ", I said with a stern tone. I knew there had to be a
at least one Avatar out there hidden.
Based on the description of selective invisibility even other avatars don't know where each other are, so if he really believed he was alone, now he could be paranoid.
"Of course, now I have a question. What the hell did you tell the prince!?" Lord Justice demanded.
"What do you mean?", I replied with a slight smirk that betrayed my innocence.
" You have corrupted his core programming! Now he's got this idea in his head that he needs to level up. How does an AI even know he has a level! It shouldn't be possible!"
"Whoah, whoah, calm down there, I simply asked him if he wanted to be reliant upon the strength of others his whole life, and may have described stats in a way he could understand..."
"Grr! Why?!?", Lord Justice shook his first at me in anger. "Now we are having to power level the prince. He refuses to accept his position until he is strong enough. "
I shrugged, "Why don't you just force him?"
A dark look crossed the paladins face, "Because of the stupid necklace."
"What necklace?"
"The ruby necklace we had to retrieve from the innkeeper, it has a rank 10 enchant that stops even us Avatars from affecting him. As soon as he got the necklace he started acting like you! Demanding things and accepting no compromise! " Lord Justice explained, the irritation clear in his voice.
I couldn't help but laugh at the Avatars and their bad luck. Freaking Skye. This chain of events leading to this point had to be the work of skye tweaking things in the background.
"Well I don't know what you expect me to do about it, and I don't know if I want to help you anyway. Not after Naxila tried to kill me. "
Lord Justice frowned, "Did she? Well I cannot speak for her actions, but I will pay you handsomely. "
"You did come through and pay me back, so I guess I could help you. So I'm guessing you want me to convince the prince to abandon his desire to grow stronger and accept his responsibility?"
" What!? You will? Just like that? You won't be sorry! I will pay you 100 gold!"
"100 gold is a tad low don't you think? I have to betray a friends confidence.."
"He's an AI...but whatever 200 gold!"
"Alright one more thing. I want Naxila to apologize for trying to kill me, and I want the other Avatars present to witness it, or no deal. "
Lord Justice was silent for a moment, his face betraying no emotion, "Fine, you have a deal, but you had better succeed. I'll give you half the gold on good faith and will arrange for the other Avatars to meet us at the prince. "
" Good. Take me to him. Where is he?" I asked?
Lord Justice gestured to the village next to us, "He's here, come with me."
As we walked I prepared a message to send to Tide, but waited to send it. Timing was crucial.
I had no intentions on betraying Olaf. I was proud of his decision and I agree with it. If he was to be the next King, he would have to be strong or he will just be waiting for someone to kill him and take his throne. A plan was formulating in my mind, and the pieces were falling right into place.
Lord Justice led me to the beginner training area, were you can smack dummies to practice your technique. The dummies wouldn't increase your skill, so people hardly came here, unless they were absolute noobs.
I saw a young boy of about 8 or 9 years of age, practicing his sword swing on one of the straw test dummies. As we drew closer, the other four Avatars materialized out of thin air next to the boy, and I realized what was going on.
Naxila must be using a medallion to make him appear as a child. Hiding in plain sight, genius.
I began the first phase of my plan and sent the message to Tide.
It read:Tide! Emergency! Stop what you're doing immediately! We are being watched! Use the invisibility scroll on yourself and get back to the dungeon as fast as you can. You must hurry! I will meet you there. Good luck.
The kid locked eyes with me and jumped for joy, "Thorn! You came!"
I smiled and he ran over and gave me a hug. "Of course! Your my friend after all. It's good to see you, I see you've grown up a little."
"Ha! Good one!", He laughed and slapped me on the back.
I turned to Naxila, " I believe you owe me something..."
She frowned and growled,"I'm sorry for trying to kill you. "
I frowned, "It didn't sound like you meant that at all. "
She growled further and repeated herself.
"I accept your apology, now you." , I said to Lord Justice while holding out my hand.
He opened a trade window and transferred 100 gold to me.
I turned to Olaf and acted as though I just remembered something, " Oh I forgot, there is something I wanted to show you, it will only take a second."
I entered my inventory and pulled out the recently copied Avatar scroll. The Avatars had no idea what I was planning and thought nothing of what I was doing.
I activated the scroll and chose the prince as an additional target. We both vanished immediately as the selective Invisibility spell took effect.
Olaf could still see me and was confused. I waved at him to come with me and together we just walked away.
The Avatars started freaking out.
"What did they do! Teleportation scroll! Why didn't you stop him!" Lord Justice yelled at the other Avatars.
Naxila screamed in frustration and said, " I don't sense them within 20 miles of here. "
"FIND THEM!", Lord Justice screamed.
