Chapter 9: Speak Ye Horizon

Though alert, her senses were relaxed to some extent because she did not have to make sure her steps were ambling in the right direction. Now the road was all she has to follow.

The twilight had already inked the sky deep indigo with a slight gold tinge melded in the dawning blue, just enough for keen eyes to decipher.

Even though it was a mere flicker, but she could have sworn that she saw a flicker of humidity bordering the horizon, over the rocky ridges which blocked her vision of the seashore.

It was the flicker she had been longing for all those black hours of the night she had trod. For this line of vapour in the air, glinting with the dawn ever so slightly.

And within a heartbeat, this 'longing' turned into 'craving'. Much more intense than all that desperation she had in the entire journey.

Her walking steps transformed into large, hasty strides, brutally brushing the dust off the road, faster than her conscience would allow, until a strain in her thighs halted them.

Consumed by the 'craving' to catch the gleaming surface of water and seafoam, as if it will flee farther if not seized, she had let her impatience thrive and allowed it to push herself over the edge.

She slumped her body down, slowly, letting the pain subside as shame rose to her cheeks, colouring them red, shaded darker by embarrassment.

She was guilty for in the wake of her greedy verve, she had let her conscience slip away, and with it, let slip away the living fact that she was a mother. She forgot that her body still had limits of exertion.

She was ashamed that despite all her proficiency in pregnancy, she has managed to bring harm upon herself. She was ashamed that she forgot, even for a shameful heartbeat, that she was responsible for a life growing inside of her.

Her baby shifted within her. Anna sighed, and closing her eyes, touched the spot of feel.

"Mama's Sorry, Baby!"

Anna apologized, addressing her baby's chiding which only she could deem certain.

She piled her supplies behind her back to lean on it and with a face pouting like a pup seeking forgiveness from its master for shredding off the pillows, watched the indigo of the sky turn to bright turquoise, tint by tint.

When she thought it was enough resting and that seeking redemption would require more than just looking pitiful, she got ready and on her feet.

Picking up her supplies, she muttered a quick prayer of apology.

"Sorry Father, And Thank You."

Thank You for yet again drawing her to the right path. For it was more than just losing patience.

Oceans are not the mighty waters which they are if every drop in it does not make it.

This little impatience added with enough practice can slowly cause problems and those problems will birth bigger troubles. And Anna shuddered at the thought that if she ever lost this patience with her child and feared more if this drew her away.

Annie was all she had in this world. And for certain, she did not want to lose her.

So Anna swore, that from now on she would try her ultimate best to not lose her patience, as a person. As a Mother.

The road finally came to that legendary turn, penetrating through the ridges and onto the beach as the sun coyly peeped, still red.

She might have rejoiced for it, had it not been for her gaze which was stolen to the right. Away from the road, along those rocky ridges which once blocked her vision of the sea.

Her eyes ceased there, and her feet carried on. Legging it slowly, she closed the distance between 'it' and her. Thankful for any obstruction for deciding not to meet her way as she was led only by the urge, to be here.

Her hand rose like a young branch rising slowly from its mother stem, weaving through the air, up until her fingers met it with its surface, rough and smooth, cold and warm.

It was the archway, a formation of rock which still stood beauteous as ever. Like nothing has happened in this world, nothing has changed. But Anna knew it has, but she let herself be engulfed into the memory of the times unchanged.

She had stood there once before, stood there with Him. On the day when her heart and spirit was as bright as the rays of the sun shining upon them. When she thought The Cloudless Day couldn't contain her joy. On the day when She became His and He became Hers, right under this archway.

The same breeze as now whisked around her simple white gown and golden hair and the same which ruffled Eddie's own golden locks. It was the day she had wedded Him.

They weren't some rich, wealthy lord and lady who can claim this archway for their glitterati to of a wedding.

It was their Home.

This archway had stood here since before Anna's memory favours her.

It was there standing when they were children of innocence, and it stood there on their wedding when they were one in spirit and here it is, still standing, after so much has changed.

Anna's eyes gleamed softly and she blinked it back, which spilled them free instead as reality wrapped her again.

But there was something else, waiting to be found. Waiting with all the patience in the world just for her to open her eyes and behold it at last.

And when the wait was over and her eyes finally gave in to its pleading, she was not sure of what it was or what went through her bones because they froze at that very moment.

She felt the air around her succumb her into like a sarcophagus but the breeze was still blowing. Her feet felt light as paper but they kept her standing. A yank was felt inside her but she found herself unmoved.

She felt too much but yet was numb. She felt lost inside her, found herself beyond her own reach. Her body was not ready for what she had just witnessed, or perhaps her heart.

She had feared it.

Always.

That what-if she was late?

What if she wasn't fast enough?

What if she didn't make it?

And the answers mocked her right in the face, the verity standing nonchalantly before her.

The land and sand which once had been together, now stood sentinels facing each other in the form of two mighty cliffs. Cliffs that shouldn't have been there but were actually because of the calamity that had befallen her.

The rocks and stones of ages had been torn and laid naked by the Great Wound in the earth. It tore her heart as well, slowly but altogether harshly.

Her temples clenched with pain and she drew a breath that her throat ached are swallow.

She allowed the tears to fill and blur and fade what was before her, for mercy be upon her! she could not bear it.

She bemoaned her plight. Asked herself for why she had ignored those reverberations into the sand which sang of this Separation?

Asked that beloved of her Horizons, why had they not warned her? Why did they keep tempting her? Asked these ridges why they concealed it? And asked this Archway why it still stood unfazed?

The gentle breeze ran its undulating fingers through her hair as they had on her wedding. The sweat and humidity shimmered so faintly for only the keen of eyes to see.

Her chafed throat, at last, voiced her alew through the choking tightness and the seemingly scalding tears burning her cheeks.

"W..why? Why did you make me drag my pathetic bones and flesh and blood through all over the sand, only for this? Why after leading me so far did you leave me? Why didn't you leave me be in grave with my Mate? Speak Ye Horizon?

She wanted to utter a last 'why?' after those blood-stained whispers, but it died down her raw throat, adding to the agony which plagued her down to the heart.

***

I consider it of no mention that I virtually cried blood writing this chapter and that I had to write it thrice to the final version and had to read it countless times.

But I made it to the end and I thank God with all the life inside me. Thank you to Father God for using my life for His works. Thank you for always waiting for me back at the right path whenever I have gone astray. Thank you for loving me more than I deserve. Thank you, O King, for being gracious and comforting to this mere child when I have been lost in this world. Thank you for being WHO you are and all the GLORY be to you alone.

I have, at times, been surprised at how what I wrote can be perceived in an entirely different way that I did not find myself. Please share your views and what it spoke to you, which is a version of your own. I consider that every book is reformed when a reader reads it. It takes a new form, shape and meaning which is in itself, a marvellous creation of God.

Thank you for coming so far in this journey with me and if SPOILER would be a better word, we all are just ONE chapter away!

Thank you again to all for being my audience and I pray all that is needed in your life be fulfilled for our LORD is JEHOVAH JIREH and trust he will provide you with you that you need in the time.

Thank You,

Blessings,

Greatel
