Chapter 11: The Meeting
When Augustus arrived at the rest house, he immediately went to the backyard to do the plowing and planting of the corn seeds as instructed by Madam Odette. He was told by his father awhile ago that the daughter of Don Maximus wanted to help them out in the flower garden and so as he was plowing, he separated some soil and put it on the pots for the young madam. He was on his knees when he heard foots towards him and when he lift his head and look back, he saw the young madam approaching.
She was so beautiful at a very young age. She has innocent deep-seated eyes with long lashes that are very much attractive and rosy cheeks that seem to blush like she was shying away. She has auburn long hair with curls on its ends and had a big ribbon tied on her head. She was wearing peach dress with matching peach sandals as she was briskly towards Augustus.
"Hi, I'm Olivia."
"Hello, I'm Augustus."
"Yeah, I know. My dad told me...and you know what? I think I love you."
"Ha ha ha ha...." Augustus stood up and faced the young madam.
He faced her and as soon as he continued to laugh at Olivia's phrase she saw tears shed from her beautiful eyes. He waa a bit guilty of he he reacted to her.
"Hey! I was just kidding little girl. I am just surprised of how vocal you are at your very young age. Do you even understand what you are talking?"
"Ofcourse, I do. And I am pretty much sure that you're going to marry me someday."
"Ha ha ha ha ha, you silly girl,"
again Augustus laughed hard. But he find Olivias' words so pure and innocent that he admire her in some way. He was almost going to touch her forehead when a pretty young woman called out his name.
It was Kristina. Olivia find her beautiful with curly long hair that almost touched her buttocks. She smiled at her sweetly as she approached Augustus and Olivia.
"Who is she?" looking down at Olivia.
"Oh! She's Lily, my little Lily in this beautiful garden," Augustus answered as he spread his arms while describing the garden where they are standing.
"So she is the little madam you were talking about and the only daughter of Don Maximus and Madam Odette." Kristina looked at Olivia as she went running towards their house.
She thought that the girl was shy whenever she meets people from outside their house so she did not bother ask Augustus further. She was just wondering of the reason behind the laughter she heard awhile from Augustus while he was talking to Olivia.
Kristina squatted on the bermuda grass and called out Augustus while taking a canister and paper bag from her bag pack. She took a square cloth and laid it in the grass and took out the snacks she prepared for him.
"Come here August, have some of this...I know you are a little bit hungry." She mustered.
"No, I'll take it later. I just have to finish this part for now," pointing to the left side where he already started planting some corn seeds.
"But you have to at least drink the carrot juice I made you while it's still cold." Kristina added. "You must be thirsty, here." She stood up and gave the carrot juice to Augustus.
Augustus accepted it drunk until its empty and gave back the canister to Olivia. His eyes where searching for Olivia up in the balcony but to his dismay he couldn't find her. He was a little bit worried that she might be upset after he took her words like a joke.
He was looking up the balcony closely when he saw the curtains move from the inside. He saw Olivia peeping as if trying not to be caught but their eyes met. Augustus smiled at her and she just looked back at him with a frozen like eyes.
Moments later he could see that Olivia blushed and shut back the curtains after he look up and away from the balcony window. Augustus coudn't help but enjoy Olivia's reactions. He somehow knew that he is the only person around the rest of the house who managed to interact with Olivia without provoking her tantrums.
Kristina saw the smile and the look on Augustus face. She felt a sudden jealousy but she k ows it wasn't that for sure. How could she be jealous of someone as young as Olivia and aside from that, she's not even Augustus girlfriend. But she is determined to have him sooner.
Olivia was watching Kristina and Augustus from the attic, she was unhappy to see them laugh about things that she knows nothing of. She was far from them yet but her heart seem to ache seeing them looking good together. She was young and there is this fear in her heart that a very young girl like her can't understand why such feeling is being felt.
She like Augustus so much to the extent that she was learning the local language slowly by just listening to their housemaids talking outside.
Nobody was willing to teach her and ahe understands why because it was also her fault. Whenever a housemaid or her nanny approach her, all ahe dis was display her vicious tantrums. But she was hopeful that one day, when her nanny will still have an extended patience over jer, maybe she'll be the one to ask for her help.
She saw Augustus looking at her balcony view and so she immediately hid from the curtains of her window. Her heart beats fast and she was so ashamed of being caught. She also saw Kristina's reaction when Augustus smiled at her and ahe was wondering why she looked that way at her. She was just ten years old but with the look on Kristina's face, she knows she was jealous of something.
Augustus was putting seed on the holes he just plowed and after that he watered them. He then sat besides Kristina who was busy on her cellphone looking at pictures that she just posted on facebook during their graduation. He grabbed her cellphone and raised it to get a selfie. He smiled while Kristina could be seen mad on the selfie while trying to get back her cellphone but Augustus was running and just clicking the phone as it captures Kristina's every move. He was laughing and teasing her until she gave in and also laughed with him.
