Lixiss watched on as Mika became the life of the party. No one bothered to look her way all anyone cared about was Mika.
*Screech*
Lixiss abruptly push out her chair, the sound causing the hall to go silent. Now the center of everyone's stares, Lixiss froze under their weight. When trying to think of a good way to get herself out of this situation a young male walks in through the doors.
"Hello, I hope I'm not late." This voice was like Lixiss' saving grace as everyone's eyes turned towards the latecomer.
"Young master Jaonos you are indeed late but there is still food, come sit."
Lord Tasar invited the young male to sit at the last remaining available seat at his table. Hearing the mention of food the members who originally surrounded Mika went back to their seats to eat.
Lixiss' eyes stayed trained on Jaonos from the time of his arrival. Subconsciously Lixiss also retook her seat, changing her whole demeanor into a poised and refined young lady. Chatting and laughing with the people around her, she tried to catch Jaonos' focus.
Regrettably, the seat Joanos happened to take was right next to Mika. His attention had been captured by this new young miss from the time he sat down. Aggravated by Joanos' and Mika's close proximity to one another Lixiss couldn't help recalling Mika's arrival here.
____
Coming back from her mother's house Lixiss saw her eldest brother, knowing Elmer went with their father on his business trip Lixiss was delight by their return.
Before she could welcome him home Joanos reach him first. Seeing Joanos Lixiss forgot about her brother and followed Joanos instead.
Elmer bought up his travels as Joanos commented here and there. Lixiss waited for the perfect chance to intervene, as she was going to let her presence be known she heard Joanos' words.
"Elmer, who is that beautiful young miss you and your father bought with you?"
"Haha...you'll know soon enough."
Lixiss didn't know who is 'young miss' was and she didn't care. The only thing she cared about was that young master Joanos called her beautiful.
For years she had been trying to get his affection, but he never gave her a single glance. Now a 'young miss' from nowhere has stolen what was supposed to be hers.
"Haha..."
The sound of laughter broke Lixiss out of her daydreaming. Looking across the table Lixiss saw Mika and Joanos leaning towards one another, they were talking in low voices both sporting a bright smile on their face.
"What could they possibly be talking about? They have nothing in common." Lixiss thought as her stare was drilling a hole into both their heads.
Mika felt Lixiss' displeasure a long time ago, but since Lixiss hasn't done anything to her there was no need to waste her energy. Although now it seems Lixiss was reaching her breaking point.
As the dinner carried on Joanos stuck to Mika's side explaining things she didn't understand or telling her what food to taste.
In the beginning, Mika felt the dinner was going to be tiresome, Joanos' company changed her mind. Thoroughly enjoying herself, Mika no longer concerned herself with Lixiss' behavior.
Seeing Mika laughing once again at Joanos' jokes Lixiss couldn't take it any longer.
"Will you just shut up! You shouldn't even be here, get out!"
Lixiss abruptly stood from her seat shouting and pointing her finger at Mika.
One could hear a needle drop in the silent hall, Lord Tasar sat in his seat not even recognizing his daughter.
Clearing the clog in his throat, Lord Tasar dissolved the silence in the room, "Lixiss, what is going on?"
Panting and with a flush face, Lixiss didn't realize she had actually taken action until her father's voice bought her back to reality.
Scanning the room she saw everyone's confusion, taking glancing at Joanos she saw indifference on his face.
Does he not even wondering what was wrong with her? Lixiss couldn't take that look of his and turns away quickly.
Mika also saw this reaction from Joanos, even she was startled and looked at Lixiss in confusion. And Joanos who's a member of the Udava clan doesn't even blink an eye at Lixiss' outburst.
"There is something more going on between these two." Mika thought.
"Lixiss, you have been under too much stress lately, you should retire for the night." Concern his daughter complexion didn't look good, Lord Tasar made an excuse for her to leave.
"Father, I'm fine. I just-" Lixiss didn't want to leave, this would probably be the only time she'll get to be this close to Joanos.
"No. You are tired. Retire for the night." Calling for Kasra Lord Tasar order for her to take Lixiss back to her house.
"Take your mistress back to the room, and see to her health." Karsa could see Lord Tasar was upset, she shouldn't defy his orders.
Gently holding Lixiss' arms, Karsa guided Lixiss away from the hall and towards her residence.
Although Lixiss was gone the awkward vibe stayed in the hall. The once bubbly ambiance turned sour. Lord Tasar worried about his daughter, was in no mood to save the dinner. The dinner ended soon after Lixiss departure.
When Mika entered her house, Saavi was still waiting.
"How was the dinner?" Saavi stretched the sleepiness from her body before helping Mika get ready for bed.
"I think I was just used as someone's pawn."
Enjoy the chapter.
As soon as dinner was over Lord Tasar walked towards Lixiss house seeking answers for her actions during dinner.
Upon entering he saw a pale Lixiss in her sitting room drain of energy. Lixiss' hair was a mess, her lips were dry and cracked, eyes were bloodshot. She looked awful. When Lord Tasar saw the state his daughter was in he was beside himself with worry.
"Lixiss what is wrong?... You were fine just a few hours ago."
Sitting by his daughter's side, Lord Tasar tried to exert some of his energy to see what was ailing Lixiss, but she moved her body away from his touch.
"Father I'm fine it's just a cold. I didn't want to hinder the festive mood by staying home. Yet it seems I might have made the cold worst. I'll be fine once I take my medicine the healers have given me."
Glad Lixiss has already sought the healers, Lord Tasar's heart settled down.
Forgetting completely about her outburst at the dinner earlier Lord Tasar left Lixiss' residence after giving a few orders to Kasra, to see to her mistress' well being.
Kasra assured him she would not leave young miss' side for the rest of the night. Seeing Lord Tasar out Kasra came back into the sitting room, Lixiss did not look well at all.
The simple act of walking to her bed, Lixiss was sweating profusely soaking through her clothes. Breathing harshly, all Lixiss could do was lay in bed and moan.
"Young miss, I'll get you some nibble (chewable honey made for relaxing) wait one moment."
In the small kitchen, Kasra opened a container pouring a few nibbles into a bowl. Placing the bowl and a cup of water on a tray Karsa went back into the bedroom.
"Here young miss, eat a few..." Kasra bought the nibbles towards Lixiss' mouth but before she could get them in Lixiss pushed her hand away.
"No! I don't want that. Bring me 'Serenity' I want 'Serenity'!"
"Miss, you can't. You promised you wouldn't take it anymore. It'll kill you!"
"Shut up! It helps me. I cannot function without it. The nightmares, they haunt me at night. Joanos won't even look at me and that evil Mikaela she is trying to come between us. I need Serenity! Give it to me now!"
Picking up the tray and throwing it onto the floor, the bowl and glass cup shattered on the floor. Kasra was frightened, Lixiss' eyes were bulging and her body was shivering.
Young miss needs treatment, Kasra knew this but no matter how many times she tries to make her go young miss wouldn't listen. The only thing Kasra could do was to hide the drugs.
Hiding the drugs after getting young miss to promise to never use it again wasn't easy. When Lixiss almost killed her younger brother by accident, the incident gave young Miss the wake-up call she needed allowing Kasra to take the drug away.
Now young miss is once again asking for the drug (Serenity), should she tell Lord Tasar. It would be a betrayal to young miss, but she could no longer watch her downward spiral.
"No, I will not give it to you."
Kasra thought to try one more time. One more time to get young miss to stop using Serenity.
Tears gushed down Lixiss' face when she heard Kasra refusal.
"Why are you doing this? Why do you want to hurt me? I thought you were my friend...Please, please get me Serenity. I'll die if you don't..."
Kasra could hardly stand against Lixiss miserable face and soft pleads. Thinking she might be able to ween young miss off of the drug slowly, Kasra was about to give in when suddenly Lixiss whole face changed.
Rage covered Lixiss' pallid face, cracked lips, and bloodshot eyes. Her hands clasped around Kasra's throat, gone was the feeble young miss who couldn't even get into bed by herself; In her place stood an apparition of death.
Kasra couldn't get young miss' claws from around her neck. She could feel the air leaving her chest, her heart which was once a steady pound slow down to a crawl.
"I will ask you one more time... Where is Serenity!?"
"...the...kitchen...cabinet...on top..."
Having gotten the hiding spot Lixiss release Kasra's neck and dash towards the kitchen. Pulling out a step ladder Lixiss searched the tops of each cabinet until she found her treasure.
Stepping off the ladder hugging a blue sack to her chest, Lixiss went into the icebox and poured herself her favorite rose honey juice before going back into her bedroom.
Stepping over Kasra's unconscious body, Lixiss climbed into bed unlatched the flap of the sack and removed a vial of vivid polychromatic liquid.
The vial in hand Lixiss tipped the liquid down her throat. Chasing away the taste she down the juice right after, soon her face took on a dream-like state.
Settling down into her bed Lixiss closed her eyes and went to sleep, hugging the blue sack tightly in the arms.
