50% Nieve Lone (On Hold) / Chapter 1: | I Need A Job

Chapter 1: | I Need A Job

The evening is always bustling around these parts of Sector T-27. Traffic is always awful. The people running and flying to places just seems like an unceasing cycle of blurs. The land and sky roads blends into background noise when pitted against the blaring voice of the man in the holographic screen.

"You are so useless! It was a very large and very visible miss on your part! You have been neglecting a lot of your work, missing many deadlines, failing to catch the errors you were tasked to identify and you still want your part checked?! I have no idea how you got the job but guess what?! You don't get the job anymore! You are fired! We'll block your applications from ever entering our systems again so make sure you pack up your data in ten minutes before permanent deletion! I can't believe you! Dear heavens you're going to make me die young!"

A timid voice spoke up then, seemingly hesitant and yet not the least bit guilty, "but sir... You're already old to begin with...?"

There was an eerie silence as a shadow befell the static face of the man in the holographic screen. Without any warning, the screen turns black and the call disconnected. With a sigh, Synz Yonaka-Nieve flops down on his bed.

Synz is a fifteen year old boy, barely old enough to get jobs and certainly not old enough for living alone without any aid. His hair is a weird blend of black and various hair dyes while his face dons a pair of glasses aiding his sight. Although he is still young indeed, his height is lacking compared to his peers and his apparent slouch is not helpful in the slightest. One wouldn't call him particularly dashing, especially with his usually messy and disheveled look. Normally, fifteen-year-old children should stay with their parents, go to school and do homework. Whereas most normal people would be vibrant and buzzing with energy, perfectly neat and beautiful in their own sense, Synz happen to not fit into normal.

Ever since the Technology Revolution, the world has changed a lot. Other than the technologies as the name implies, the norms have also changed. Where parents can now genetically modify their children to get their dream child, Synz is one of the rare halfies. A halfie is a rare type of human that resists genetic modification. As the name indicates, the resistance is caused by an unknown anomaly in the child's ancestors. Such a difference between the parent's origin can make the child have a complex genome that is capable of remaining intact despite external modifications hence children born of parents who originate from different ancestral lines have a higher possibility of hosting this anomaly.

Being a halfie means your genes can't change and that means you can't be who you want to be. This burden makes parents often abandon halfie children to orphanages or foster care. Synz is considered lucky to be kept by his parents. But it never made Synz happy or relieved. It just made him sick.

He is sick of being a slave to what path is "destined" to be his.

Nonetheless, Synz still need money to get to the path that he wants to be in and he has just lost his job. It wasn't because he had a terrible attitude or that he was terrible at his work. He knew that it was because he couldn't fit in to the "destined" path.

A hand reaches up to push his glasses into a comfortable position before a sigh left his mouth. He needs the money for food and drinks. And for the internet bill. Fortunately, he bought the place he lives in instead of renting it. He didn't need to worry about rent and the likes. His parents had indeed left him enough to get himself a small apartment in a decently quiet neighbourhood.

Yet the statement remains needing to be said.

"...I need a job... again."
