Chapter 8: Visitors

Rai helped Ji-ae down the stairs and settled her on the sofa. Physically and mentally she was weak and was grateful for his help, somehow it felt like old times. His small gestures reminded her of a forgotten time - she really hoped her memories would return in full soon.

Rai sat on the leather pouffe that faced his fellow students; Shinwoo, Ikhan and Yuna, who had helped him get to the principal's home.

Frankenstein walked over to them and said, "I didn't expect any visitors so all I have is tea."

All was silent while they drank, until Shinwoo inquired, "sir, do you live with this dude? And why's Ji-ae here?"

All three of them deadpanned at him calling Rai, the respectable noblesse, 'dude'.

"That's right," Frankie sweat-dropped, "I know them both personally so they will be staying with me."

"But didn't Ji-ae have her own house? We've been there before."

This guy is too nosey. Ji-ae held her cup tighter and hoped he wouldn't ask too many questions.

"Well, I'm surprised you guys were together until this late." Frankie, her saviour, changed the topic.

"Hah, we hung out with Rai and Ji-ae after school." Ikhan explained. "Then we met Yuna when she was in trouble."

"Trouble?" Frankenstein questioned, his full attention now on Ikhan.

"Yes, a guy was trying to kidnap Yuna so we all ran over to save her." Ikhan answered, "Shinwoo attacked the guy and took Yuna away from him. Then Ji-ae fainted and we helped Rai bring her back here."

"The man was strange though, no matter how many times Shinwoo kicked him he wouldn't stay down. Also, his eyes and teeth looked like that of an animal and his skin was pale as if he was sick. He was really skinny and creepy."

Ji-ae shuddered at the thought and had to close her eyes for a moment. Bile churned in her stomach and she didn't feel reassured until she felt a slender hand take hers. Opening her eyes she saw Rai's own eyes were focused on hers over his cup, and he was nonchalantly holding her hand.

Luckily, the others were too engrossed in their conversation to notice what was happening between the both of them. She squeezed his hand in thanks and went back to listening to the others.

Somewhere else a silver-haired guy, with a scar across his mouth, was talking to his companion about today's events...

"Where's he?"

"He's having his meal not far from here." His companion replied. "Looks like he succeeded in hunting this time. I guess that kid wasn't like any ordinary kid."

Scar-face grinned and said, "the scumbag barely stopped himself from body destruction. I wonder how long this one will last."

"Shouldn't we report to the higher authority about the coffin now?"

"It's annoying but we should. I would hate to go back early, but if they order us to return..."

"Whatever they say, let's wait a bit longer. We never listened to them anyways... all we have to do is do as we're told in the end, right? Hahaha."

"Right. We could do that, hahaha."

The scar-faced male stopped laughing and his thoughts turned to a certain female, the same one he had seen earlier.

So I've found you, Ji-ae.

All was peaceful in the home of Frankenstein, Rai and Ji-ae. The students had gone home, leaving them in peace.

As usual, Frankie stood by his master's side, whilst Rai studied some paperwork and Ji-ae slept with her head resting on his shoulder. A blanket had been tucked around her to make her sleep more soundly.

"Master, the story from the students is bothering me. Is the guy who attacked Yuna a vampire?"

Rai paused so he could listen to what Frankie had to say and he stole a glance at Ji-ae, seeing if she was truly asleep. Earlier she had already experienced something that triggered her memory, so what's to say the same wouldn't happen now, with just mere talk of vampires?

Once he was convinced she was fast asleep he motioned for Frankenstein to continue.

"Of course their explanation doesn't contain everything, but what they said still bothers me. One thing that changed while you were asleep was an agreement with each other. At first, as you know, we made an agreement concerning attacks for their own safety and interests."

"But it's a different story now that humans have gained power. Now it's prohibited for vampires to attack humans to stay under the radar. That's why they are mostly unknown to ordinary humans. However, if they broke the agreement and attacked a human in the city where they are easily exposed..."

"I don't know." Rai simply said.

"There's nothing you don't know about vampires..."

"Uncontrollable desire." Rai started, "I could feel strong wrath and hunger that cannot be compared to the one's I knew before."

Ji-ae laid her head down on the desk, getting in some rest while the teacher wasn't there. Shinwoo commented on him being late and then a voice came through the tannoy:

'An announcement to Ye Ran high school students. It's been reported that a horrible incident occurred near our school. We advice you to go home right after school has finished from now on, until there is further notice. Please do not visit remote areas and stay with friends on the way home. Your homeroom teacher will fill you in with the details. That will be all.'

Ji-ae sat up straighter in her chair and tried to control her rapid-beaten heart.

"What could have happened?"
