The next morning. Christopher woke up without Kaylee on his side. He stood up and went to the bathroom. He washed his face and brushed his teeth. When he got out of their room, he looked around, but he couldn't find Kaylee. And when he returned to their room, she saw Kaylee sitting on the bed. "Where were you?" Kaylee looked at him and smiled.
"I was on my unit" Kaylee stood up, "Are you hungry?"
Christopher shook his head. "I'm heading to the study room." Kaylee blushed. Christopher cleared his throat. "I'll call you if I need you," Christopher said before leaving the room. He let out a sigh, and he took off his shirt. "It's hot."
—
It was already lunchtime when Kaylee went to the study room. She was worried because Christopher didn't have his breakfast. When she entered the study room, Christopher already put his shirt on. He was on his table with his hand on his head. All this time, he didn't do his work, he was thinking about what Charlotte said to him.
Indeed, he didn't want to get married yet, especially with Sofia. It is also true that he prefers Kaylee over Sofia but doesn't want Kaylee to give her all to him, and he doesn't know if Kaylee would agree. "Top, are you okay?" Kaylee asked.
Christopher immediately looked at the woman in front of him. "Oh, you're here."
Kaylee furrowed her brow and nodded her head. "Yes, you didn't notice me?"
Christopher scratched his nape. "Sorry, I was thinking about something?"
Kaylee looked at him worried. "Aren't you hungry, I already prepared our lunch."
He shook his head. "I'm not hungry."
Kaylee blinked, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm okay."
Kaylee pressed her lips together as she clenched her fist. "You need to eat."
—
Kaylee was lying on the bed while reading a book when Christopher entered the room. "You're still awake," Christopher said, she nodded.
"I'm waiting for you, I'm afraid you won't sleep again because of your work."
Christopher smiled, "I'm taking a shower."
Kaylee stood up and held his arm. "Rest for a bit."
"Actually, I didn't do anything,"
Kaylee blinked. "What did you do then? You were in the study room the whole day."
Christopher looked directly at her eyes. "I was thinking about something."
"What were you thinking? Are you still thinking the same thing earlier."
Christopher shook his head. "It's nothing."
Kaylee sighed. "Tell me, you look so depressed. Maybe I can help you."
Christopher let out a weak laugh, "I'm taking a shower now." He said and went to the bathroom. 'Yes, you can help me, only you can help me, but I don't want to drag you into this mess.' He thought while removing his clothes.
Kaylee knew something was off. She lay back down on the bed and started to read again. When Christopher got out of the bathroom, he was drying his hair with the towel. When his hair was dry, he hopped on the bed. Kaylee was still reading her book.
Christopher lay on the bed and closed his eyes. "Aren't you going to sleep?"
Kaylee shook her head. "Later."
There was silence for a minute or two when Christopher spoke. "Kaylee."
Kaylee looked at the man lying beside her with his eyes closed. "Yes?"
Christopher opened his eyes, he took the book in Kaylee's hand and placed it on the side table. He licked his lips and went on the top of her. He looked into her eyes. Kaylee blinked as she looked back at him. "Can you do me a favor?"
"W-what favor?"
"Marry me." Kaylee's jaw dropped.
"Huh?"
It's a super short update I'm sorry I'm too sleepy.
Christopher and Kaylee were now both sitting on the bed. Kaylee is facing Christopher's back. The words 'Marry me. ' Coming out of Christopher's mouth is like a miracle. She knew he hated commitments, yet he said those two words. "You see, I didn't mean it that way." A low and serious voice rang into her ears.
"What do you mean, then?"
Christopher let out a sigh. "You heard what Mom said back then, right?"
Kaylee frowned. "What is it?"
Christopher turned around to face her. "About my marriage."
Kaylee went silent for seconds. "You mean, your marriage with Sofia?"
Christopher nodded. "Something like that."
"Your point is?"
Christopher took a deep breath. "I know it's too much for me to ask you this favor, but believe me, I don't want to drag you into this. It's just that there's no way I would ask someone, given that we have a contract. I don't want to violate our contract. It's important to me."
Kaylee bit her lower lip. "So, basically you wanted to marry me instead of Sofia is that right?"
"Yes— I mean no. It's not like that. I don't want to take away all your freedom. After all, it's your choice who will you marry."
Kaylee smiled weakly because of his denial. 'The moment we sign our contract, you already took away my freedom, plus you have all the rights to ask me that favor. I already knew the moment I signed that contract, I could not allow myself to marry someone. I mean, I don't deserve it. You're always so kind to me, you respect me despite being just your bed partner. I am willing to do anything to help you. So, it doesn't matter to me if I am entering into that fake marriage with you. It'll actually make me happy.'
Christopher waved his hand in front of Kaylee. "You don't need to force yourself. I'm just asking, just in case. Don't worry, I'll find another way to deal with this marriage—"
"I'll do it."
Christopher looked at Kaylee, surprised. "What do you mean?"
Kaylee gulped. "I'll do anything you asked me to."
"You don't need to force yourself, Kaylee."
She smiled. "I'm not forcing myself, this is what I want to do, I will do it Top, anything." She held his hand. 'Anything, just for you.'
"You sure?" Kaylee nodded as she placed her hand into her right ear. "Come on, let me hear the plan."
Christopher stared at her blankly. He was about to go crazy thinking about this matter the whole day, yet when he said it, she didn't look bothered.
Kaylee blinked "Come on, tell me what am I supposed to do, when or where am I supposed to act?"
"Ah—Yeah." He told her about how her mother planned his marriage. Sofia is most likely the only woman around Christopher, who can possibly be his bride. At some point, it seems that Ethan and Sofia have a secret relationship, and Christopher is not interested in Sofia.
"So if the marriage is suddenly brought up, I just have to pretend to be your girlfriend." Christopher nodded. "And we're going to convince your Mom to postpone the wedding?"
Christopher nodded again. "Yes, that's the plan. And if we cannot convince her." He paused and then continued, "Will you marry me?"
Kaylee blinked twice. "I-I will."
"This kind of arrangement is a bit weird, right?" Christopher asked.
Kaylee nodded. "Sort of."
Christopher looked at Kaylee as he held her chin. Kaylee lightly pressed her lips together. Christopher moved closer. "I'm sorry, for dragging you all the way here, for making you do all of these. I'm sorry for everything." Christopher said with a low voice as his lips pressed against Kaylee's.
