Chapter 4: ch4 The Aftermath

Kayne woke up to a burning city and more notifications from God than he had seen since his birth.

[Trial has begun]

[The first person had died]

[The one hundredth person has died]

[The one thousandth person has died]

[The one millionth person has died]

[The one billionth person has died]

[The Hero has died]

[The last demon has spawned]

[Remaining demons have been removed]

[The strength of all classes has been decreased to stabilize the special fluctuations]

[Hero class has been permanently lost]

Kayne looked through the notifications then began examining the house he used to live in. He was walking through the hallway when he heard the house start to groan and creak very loud. he dashed outside quickly then turned around. He saw the house slowly cave inwards before fully falling down.

Kayne had only been alive for ten years in this world and sixteen in his previous one. As a result he felt sick to his stomach thinking about what happened. His legs gave out from below him as the adrenaline finally left his system. He was collapsed on the ground when he felt pressure on his back.

Kayne jumped at the touch before recognising the comforting shape of Whyvern. He rolled over and hugged the pig to his chest. His breathing alternated between erratic and slow. His tears came again and burned his eyes as they fell.

After much time Kayne finally calmed down enough to function as a normal human and decided to investigate the city and try to find any survivors. He looked to the house just across from his.

He hadn't left his house much and that amount decreased even more when he learned of his class so he had no idea who lived anywhere. He decided to just go from house to house and, as much as the thought made him feel weird, he didn't know how to get food so he would have to loot the houses to survive.

He first checked through the rubble of his house for something to hold his supplies in, and luckily found one bag he could sling over his shoulder that hadnt broken. He then started to search the houses on his street. He found one house that was in decent quality and decided to set it up as his base of operations.

He had only finished his street when the sun set too far for him to continue. He decided to stay in the house he had found due to all his food being there. He had no idea how to light a fire so he just huddled with Whyvern and checked his status.

The second he displayed his stats, he realised he felt different then he had just the day before. He felt his senses had grown stronger and his thoughts got clearer. He also realised a connection had formed between him and Whyvern and he could now feel a small degree of emotion comming from her.

Only after realising the changes, did Kayne actually read the information. He read then reread the first three lines to start.

[Name: Kayne]

[Class: Supporter]

[Class Type: Unique (support)]

The first change Kayne had noticed was that his class type had changed to {Unique}. Kayne was very surprised by this since even though he had never heard of the class {supporter} he had most definitely never heard of a Unique style support class.

However when thinking on the subject Kayne realised that that wasn't too surprising. People with {support} style classes where heavily looked down upon in this world and so if the {supporter} class had apeared before, it wasn't unlickely that that person had either died, or been killed, or simply never filled the requirements for the skill to unlock.

While continuing along his train of thought, Kayne realised that it was possible that some famous people from the past where actually {supporter} classes since not every person with a {Unique} class would have revealed that they had one.

Kayne had no idea what had triggered his change of style. He decided to continue reading his information to see if there where any changes other than his style. He made it one more line before stopping again.

[Lv: 3]

Kayne had no idea why and how he had leveled up, let alone twice. As far as he knew from the books he had read, the only way to level up was if one dealt the most damage to a creature that died or if they ate a priceless treasure. There was no other recorded ways of leveling up as far as Kayne knew.

Kayne pondered the entire fight even though it made his sorrow resurface. He had gone through the whole fight but had found no reason he could have leveled up. He was taken from his thoughts by Whyvern licking the tears he had been unknowingly crying.

He decided to continue reading and his shocks didn't end.

[Skills:

Healing:

-slight Stem Bleeding

-slight Clean Blood

-slight Pain Resistance.

Boost:

-small Speed Boost

-slight Strength Boost

-slight Endurance Boost

Other:

-slight Analyze]

What surprised Kayne the most was the fact that two of his skills had leveled up and he got four skills on top of that. The only way this could have happened was if his skill {talentless} had activated twice. He thought it over then realized that was unlikely since the skill said rarely. Kayne decided to read his attributes before coming to any conclusions.

After reading his attributes Kayne's jaw hung open. He reread his attributes four times before believing they where real. He started from the top.

[Attributes:

The Strongest Alive: Achieved by being the person with the strongest soul to survive the trials. Grants the Analyze skill. {effects limited by lv}] ?????

He immediately recongised that this is where one of the extra two skills he got came from. He then preceeded to sit still for a while wondering why the term "Soul" sounded so familiar.

Then, seemingly from nowhere, a memory rose in his mind. He remembered, the first time he heard the voice, it mentionned the "value" of his "soul".

He was thinking back to the event when he realized that his second attribute seemed to be related to his soul too. More specifically, the rating the voice had given his soul.

[46.354/100: Can resist all forms of weakening. ?????]

This stunned Kayne as the attribute said it could resist all forms of weakening the closest attribute kayne had read to this attribute was a level 99 {hero} skill called Fully resistant. That was a well known skill and the description according to all the books Kayne read was:

[Fully resistant: Can withstand almost any fatal attack once for half a second.]

The affects of the attribute was also well known. Even though the effects sounded good, there where much weaker then first impressions would make one think. If the hero got his heart destroyed and didn't get it somehow recovered within half a second he would die just like anyone else and the ability only worked once.

However it was a well known fact that many people who had the {hero} class had been saved by taking a healing potion or pill within that half of a second.

At that thought, Kayne's fist clenched. Pills where made by people with a {Crafting} style class and where treated better than almost all other classes. Even the strongest of people wouldn't carlessly disrespect a person with a {Crafting} style class, since most people in crafting classes, even if they where weak, had large guilds of strong people pretecting them.

There where a few reasons why {Crafting} style was much prefered to {Support} style. The first is that improving as a person with a {Support} style was considered both incredibely difficult and not worth the return in the slightest. Healing spells needed to reach a high level to compare with the average pills. Another advantage {Crafting} style classes had, was that they only needed to improve one skill to improve everything they could make. {Support} style on the other hand required the individual skill's level be raised. The third difference was that {Crafting} classes only needed blueprints or recipies to learn a new ability whereas it was harder for healers since skills where quite rare. The final difference and the one seen as the largest, was that {Crafting} style classes could make their own recipies and blueprints and so where more flexible and creative, but {support} style classes could only cast spells they had.

As a result of these differences, it was believed that anything a {Support} style class could do, a {Crafting} style class could do better and, as such, people with {Support} style classes where considered useless at best and tortured and mangled corpses at worst.

The next three of Kaynes attributes where the same.

[Booster: Gains or upgrades a {Boost} related skill on level up

Healer: Gains or upgrades a {Healing} related skill on level up

Talentless: Rarely gains random skills or attributes on level up.]

Kayne quickly glanced over them, barely reading them before reaching his final section and the one he found the most incredible.

[Soul-bind: Can bind a creature to his soul. Each creature cannot pass him in level. Connection increases with the respect the creature holds for Kayne. Kayne gains exp when they fight.

Whyvern:

Kayne's first soul-bound creature.

Respect: 100%

Lv: 3

Race: Spiritual beast {has the soul of: ???????}

Gender: Female

Skills:

-minor Light Magic

Attributes:

-Flight: Is equiped with wings that allow her to fly though they become invisible when pressed against her body.

-Magical Hero: gains magic skills naturally over time.]

Kaynes astonishement was understandable as the {Soul-bind} attribute was one of the main attributes from the {Druid} class. The {Druid} class was a {Summoner} style class and was thus seen as having the potential to be quite powerful.

The second and, due to the lack of knowledge about the first one, the one Kayne was thinking about was the fact that this ability patched up two of the largest weaknesses of {Support} style classes. With the help of Whyvern, Kayne now had offensive power and, due to the specifics about his skill, he also overcame the difficulty for {Support} style classes to level up.

He had a {Unique} style class, he might of been the only one who hadn't been weakened in the entire world, and he had an attribute making up for his largest weakness.

If the trials where just as difficult for everyone, and knowing the average strength of a support class, he may even be...

The Last Support Class.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
sunsofmidnight sunsofmidnight

This is where the story really starts according to the plan in my mind. I aim for one thousand words per chapter currently but this chapter ended up being 1.75 thousand.

An: I only mentioned one of the extra skills Kayne got. He levelled up his {Slow bleeding} into {Stem bleeding} because of his continuous use of it on his sister. This will not come up in the story and Kayne will forget
