Jack too wanted to fall asleep but unfortunately for him nightmares plagued his mind. The shrouded figure of his master always ever distant from him. Jack chased after him but never seemed to gain any ground.. His legs moved slowly as if he was trudging through quicksand… the sand encompassed the area around him… a terrifying sensation arised within Jack and before he realized it the sand swallowed him up… "Ah!" Jack is jolted awake while a cold sweat can be felt running down his back.
Fang sits across from the campfire... the fire burns low... he glances over at Jack.. "Couldn't sleep Jack ah? Don't worry, that makes two of us" Fang turns back towards the fire.
The dark forest surrounds them as a small bonfire burns. A gloomy look overshadows Jacks face.. "Well since we both can't sleep, you may as well come sit beside the fire here and refocus your mind." Fang gestures towards the little campfire.. as he throws in some more kindling.. unfortunately the branches are damp… the fire starts to die down… "Whooshh, the fire blazes back into life. Fang notices Jack's outstretched arm before his arm lowers, his hand once more placed beneath his robe. "Amazing.." Fang mutters to himself. A burning desire can be seen within Fang's eyes.
"Teach me Jack!"… Jack slowly walks over near the fire and takes a seat. He glances over at Fang… "Not possible Fang, putting aside your age, magic takes a great toll not only on the body but also the mind. While you may be a genius in swordsmanship, magic has far heavier restrictions. Only geniuses amongst geniuses can even touch the borders of magi-c.. Fang raises his arm seemingly mimicking Jack and "Whoosh" the campfire burns even brighter.
Jack looks on wordlessly.. "as I was saying you need to study for countless years with magicians teaching you step by step…" Jack pauses for a moment… "Hey Wait.. you!..." Fang grins from ear to ear. Jack looks at Fang in disbelief.. before the look in Jack's eyes sharpens "Should I eliminate Fang..? Such a monster… we cannot have any variables that may threaten Master.." Jack ponders to himself.
Fang seemingly oblivious to this continues to make the flames burn brighter and brighter.. Before either of them realize it, the trees around them catch fire. "Dude… stop Fang.. terrific.. look at the mess you have made…" Jack quickly gets up and as he is about to quell the fire he realizes that the fire has expanded too fast too quickly… "We will not be able to put out this fire.." Jack mutters to himself… "Running away seems to be the only option…" Jack chooses the only direction left where the fire has only just started burning and charges through… Fang hesitates before sheepishly following behind Jack… they both disappear into the night.
In the coming weeks news got out about a disastrous forest fire… apparently escalating to a Rank B disaster level where many high level magicians were sent out to resolve it. As for how the fire started… there were no leads…
To be Continued.
