Eyes widening with excitement, Rong You had an automatic promotion from a crazy person to a knowledgeable crazy person.
Even though he might have psychosis tendencies, he was still at least an honest person. That alone was worth millions in her mind.
She didn't trust him completely as she had been harmed plenty of times before however, she was willing to relax her guard for a moment. If he really was able to help Feng Qi, then the risk was definitely worth it.
"I've committed a sin toward a child and it altered them in unspeakable ways. How do I change them back?" She spoke in a grave manner while looking right into Rong You's eyes.
Her cold face had started to turn red from shame as she thought more about the incident with Feng Qi.
Something ethereal had been brought down to earth from her own manipulations, that thought alone terrified her. If Feng Qi was no longer the Feng Qi from the book where would that put her?
Her thoughts traveled back to life before reading 'Defying Moonlight' making her heart turn cold.
The feeling of complete emptiness that made even the brightest day, dark for her invaded her mind. Remembering that horrible empty abyss, her eyes lit up with absolute resolution.
No matter what she would not feel that way again, she will fix Feng Qi and at the same time fix herself.
Rong You's lips twitched at her description of what she did to the child. He secretly sighed in relief that the child was imaginary, or he would definitely think she killed someone!
"Hmm..." he mumbled in a slow drawn out manner. He looked deep into the distance as if seeing an immeasurable amount of things that were accessible to his eyes.
Unlike his calm display on the outside, inside he was jumping from joy. So, it turned out her question was this easy? He had plenty of friends that worked in cultivation schools and had to deal with troubled children, therefore he knew a lot of ways to make them better.
This included hanging them upside down by their feet, starving them, and other methods of torture. Undeniably torture was the easiest way to make someone change their ways, however Rong You would never use it on his own disciples.
After all, even though it changed them, it also made their spirit weak and less likely to be able to travel far in cultivation.
'As this person wasn't real it won't matter much if I give her this advice.' In fact, the more he thought about it the more perfect sense it made. Imaginary friends were a hindrance to any child and purging it now would be for the best.
"The best thing this old master can suggest is that you will have to personally take responsibility for your actions." He let out a soft sigh as he looked at her remorsefully. "You will have to torture this person in order to help them.l
The room temperature dropped to extreme colds out of no where. Rong You felt a cold sweat go down his spine as his eyes switched from the window back to his disciple.
Meng's eyes no longer held any brightness as she looked at him. Their light bright brown color seemed to go to black, making Rong You feel like he was looking at a completely different person.
"Torture... what gives you the right to decide-" mid-sentence, Meng's eyes snapped closed.
Momentarily nothing in the room moved, not even Rong You who was scared witless over the change that Meng had just gone through. That kind of aura wasn't like her domineering aura or her careless one... from how empty her eyes were, it didn't even seem like she was human.
A hand movement shocked Rong You out of his thoughts and instinctively he had extended his cultivation aura some to defend himself.
However, an attack never came as Meng used the moving hand to rub her head and her eyes opened up.
They were back to normal.
"Sorry about that Master Rong, it's been a long day." She said light-heartedly causing Rong You to doubt what he had just witnessed.
Little did he know that the change didn't only scare him, but also Meng herself, who had once again hid her shaking hands under her long red sleeves.
She had long learned to push back her memories, to the point she had forgotten them. For them to jump up so suddenly... it worried her. Thankfully, she reacted quick enough to push those memories back to her locked box of thoughts she needed to forget.
Meng gave her head a final rub before deciding to focus on what Rong You said before her relapse.
Her forehead creased. Would she really have to use torture in order fix Feng Qi? Meng felt unsettled as she pondered over what Rong You said.
In her past life she did hear about teachers disciplining students using beatings... could she really do that to Feng Qi? When she thought about it, she realized that she absolutely couldn't.
At the slightest thought of causing Feng Qi harm a piercing pain that she had never experienced before entered her heart.
Meng furrowed her eyebrows in irritation. 'What is this feeling?' After being isolated from the world for so many years, Meng had a clear understanding of herself
She knew that she was normally selfish, cold, and lazy above anything else. Never in a million years did she think that she would put someone before herself even if they were her idol.
In the past Meng did care for Feng Qi, but not in the way two people cared for each other. For her, Feng Qi was an object to end her own internal pain.
Her motive to save him, was to save herself and it didn't go beyond that. However, now she was willing to risk losing her only pillar of light just to avoid hurting him.
If his change made him unable to stop the emptiness inside of her wouldn't death be better? Caring about someone was truly frustrating....
"I can't do that." Her voice was sharp enough to cut ice while her expression darkened.
Rong You felt another cold sweat once again from Meng's response. Why did he always feel like his life was on the line when he talked to this disciple! Also, did she really care about someone who wasn't real that much?"
Watching how dark her expression turned, he started to find himself very pitiful. He was once one of the greatest masters out there, yet now he had to compete with an imaginary person over his own disciple. Also, from the look she had on her face he was definitely losing!
Throwing aside his previous fear, he shot her a look of contempt "humph, my disciple only amounts to this much! You should know that thousands of people would die just to hear a word of advice from this master! If you can't do something as simple as torturing someone than how could you possibly walk on the path of cultivation." He said throwing a fit inside. No matter what this imaginary person will be tortured today, or his name wasn't Rong You!
'Eh? When did torture have anything to do with cultivation?' Meng tilted her head in confusion as she recalled the parts of the book.
Sure, she remembered people torturing themselves in order to advance in cultivation, but she never heard of people torturing other's in order to advance.
Also, when did this conversation even switch to cultivation were they not talking about how to raise a child?
"Ha-ha it's because you have to have a strong heart in order to cultivate." Rong You quickly covered up his mistake when he saw that he was losing her.
Awkwardly he rubbed his nose thinking about what he said. 'Too late now might as well go with it.'
Meng's expression turned contemplative. It was true that you needed a strong heart in order to cultivate, however torturing Feng Qi... It would be the same as torturing herself.
She grabbing her heart trying to stop the intense pain going through it, a sad smile came over her face. 'Wasn't it always like this?' Although she had her regular emotions beat out of her at a young age, it didn't change the fact that she remembered them.
She could remember the agony, sorrow, and disappointment which came along with them. Then of course the undying coldness that came after them. Not fixing him would lead to the possibility of losing her pillar of light and leave her open to all the pain that she used Feng Qi to avoid.
"Trust me when I say there are no other options." A stern voice entered her ears solidifying her choice. What she was going to do was best for the both of them.
Standing up, Meng gave a full bow to Rong You. "Thank you Master You, I will definitely not disappoint you. I need to fix Feng Qi quickly, therefore I cannot stay today." With that she turned around and walked out of the library doors.
————————
Once Meng left, Rong You automatically dropped his all-knowing posture and started laughing.
"Hahaha! Who dares fight with this old man for his disciple!?"
Even if the person was imaginary it was obvious that the girl cared for them a lot therefore, didn't this show how high a standing he now had?
'No one not even this Feng Qi-' Rong You paused mid-sentence as uncertainty clouded his features. 'Feng Qi... I've heard this name before.'
'Didn't about four years ago two people entered the library talking about a hostage prince called Feng Qi? It couldn't be... Please say I did not release my crazy disciple on some poor unsuspecting child!'
His eyes flashed in alarm as he ran to the library doors and swung them open. Sadly, the girl was already long out of sight.
