Chapter 2: The Academy

Now enough of this history lesson, time to talk about the academy itself, and the people who run and attend it. The year is now 2023. Calling it a building is a bit of an understatement, it's more of a castle really. It stands seven stories tall and goes five stories below ground. The grounds of the academy reach for over one hundred acres. The academy can't be found easily even if your deliberately looking for it. The only way onto the grounds without getting lost or encountering some wild beast is to have permission onto the grounds or you already know where it is.

Each floor has a special class or training room that is unique to the rank of the floor it is on, and each floor has rooms for the students on that floor. single person rooms, so that everyone can have their privacy. There are also several arenas on the grounds for weapons training, and one on one combat. Instead of a cafeteria like place to eat there are at least two rooms on each floor that serve a variety of foods, and there are also vending machines. Each floor has three giant rooms used for classes, briefs, and mission assignments.

Not just anyone can join this academy like they used to. Now you must be invited personally by one of the people assigned to finding new students, or by the headmistress herself, Victoria Hellsing. Now for the classes, rank structure, and how they are separated. The classes are separated by rank and the floors obviously. The first and second floors are the lowest rank, D rank. While in D rank status at the academy you get settled into your room, learn about demons, how to fight and find them, the origin of the academy, and once you move to the next rank; you are given your own custom weapon made based on your personality, and style of fighting. If you fail as a hunter or try to leave without permission, you are subject to a complete memory wipe, which tends to have side effects. Once you pass enough tests, and prove yourself, you graduate to the next rank, C rank.

C rank students are moved to the third and fourth floors. Once in C rank status you can then take on missions to hunt demon through out the world. While in C rank missions are given and assigned to teams of three or more. Since people in C rank are new to actually hunting and killing demons, they must take on missions in teams and they are signed to go after weaker demons. Kind of like a local exterminator. Mostly demons who are nothing more than a slight nuisance. This is to get the students used to fighting demons, and field experience. While most missions are done in groups, in rare situations a person is assigned and approved to go on a solo mission by the headmistress. Once a mission is complete the hunter/hunters are awarded money for their kill, kind of like claiming a bounty. The higher up in rank you go the more money you get. The only way out of C rank and to move up to B rank is to master your weapon and be in the top ten.

B rank consist mostly of more intense training, and missions, and is held on the fifth and sixth floors. In B rank there are solo missions available, but there are also still plenty of team mission available. These missions are more dangerous and have a deeper impact. Meaning that the world if the missions are not taken care of discretely. The missions are more covert and need to stay away from the public eye and any form of social media. In order to go from B rank to A rank one must complete a certain number of solo missions, and get approved from at least three of the top five ranked people in A rank. The only other way is with the headmistress' approval. It was decided by the instructors of B and A rank, and the headmistress herself; that one must earn the respect of the best in A rank to move up to it.

A rank consists of solo mission, and personal training, and is held on the seventh and eighth floors. While it consist of mostly solo missions, you could go on a mission with allies, but it is frowned upon and makes you look weak, it could also result in getting ranked down. The missions in A rank are far more challenging and have a higher risk of exposing yourself and demons to the public and the world. These missions are also mostly killing demons disguised as humans. Once you get into A rank that is where ranking up ends for most, but there is one more rank above A, S rank.

The final rank of the academy and the hardest to get into is S rank, and held on the ninth and tenth floor. The members of S rank are the best of the best, and the most powerful demon hunters in the world. Not much is known about the members of S rank, just that there are seven of them, and they were all hand chosen by Victoria Hellsing herself. People mostly just hear rumors about the members of S rank and can't confirm if they are true or not, they are hardly ever seen as well. One popular and well known rumor is that each member of S rank is half human, half demon. The missions S rank handles are ones of absolute priority. If the mission is failed it could lead to another world war or the end of the world. Now that the ranking system is explained and done, time to move onto the people of Demon Hunter Academy A.K.A. the students.
