Leseli woke up the next day feeling anxious . She had no idea what the cause was, but as young as she was, she was determined to be the best in all she did. Her slogan was "all in or all out." She stretched her little arms and yawned. She wished she could wake up to the smell of earth and fresh air like her village....but things here were very different. She had to push herself or fail...which was never a choice for her.
She woke up, had a quick shower and prepared her clothing. She chose a pair of black jeans and a pink shirt with some sneakers. She was thankful she had short hair at that time, else she would have trouble drying it. at this thought, she laughed to herself; "Silly me."
She decided that she had to feel comfortable although she had no idea of what was in store. She felt very hungry and remembered she had brought "Motoho"[1] from home. Nothing like a cool home-made beverage to kick start your day.
After having a very healthy breakfast that smelled of home, she took the Campus map, carried her school bag and hurried out. funny enough; she paid no attention to the time and headed out. All she could think about was the mystery exam she was to take with others, she wondered if there were any of her classmates, let alone same ethnic group. She wondered what the exam would look like and why it would seem so ambiguous. She shrugged her little shoulders, who knew, anything was possible.
She passed by two great buildings, each two stories tall, they looked like labs, then headed towards a building which wasn't marked on the map. She noticed a security guard who lead her to her room the previous day. She ran towards him:
"Hello, how are you mister" he said as the man turned around. "We did not get introduced yesterday, I was extremely tired. I am Leseli, this is my first time here. could you please direct me to the main hall."
"Hello miss. you are welcome here, although I must say you are the youngest student we have ever seen around this campus. follow me," he was already leading the way. he then shouted to his colleague speaking a language Leseli couldn't understand well, she knew only a few words. "So miss, what can I call you? the name you mentioned is way too difficult to pronounce."
"Oh dear! Forgive my manners. you can call me Les. "
"Miss Les, you are two hours earlier for your said exam. if you don't mind can you tell me what your name means?"
"It means light. You guys speak Spanish right?"
"Yes miss."
going around the entire campus the guys introduced Les to many new fascinating things, some of which she had never seen before. she was a village bumpkin; she was only lucky enough to grow up in Maseru, the Capital of the Mountain kingdom. She learnt all new things so she couldn't embarrass herself, as Petro said.
She had such a wonderful time, sadly it had to be cut short. "Hasta pronto Les", Petro shouted as they parted.

Leseli and other students gathered in the main hall. the tall man who spoke to them was introduced as the chancellor. He told them the essence of the entire exam, this was to decide if they could make it or not. Leseli didn't keep up with the prep talk as she was busy familiarizing herself with her environment.
After what seemed like forever they were given the papers. The exam as Leseli went through, tested general knowledge of biology. since the little girl wanted to be a surgeon, she suddenly recognised most of the questions. Although some were really difficult but she did her best. They had to wait two days before the results were announced.
By the time she left the hall she felt like a heavy load has need taken off her shoulders; she had no idea that it was only the beginning.
She headed off to her room feeling tired and lonely. She wondered what she could be doing all day long in such a strange community. Everyone on campus seemed preoccupied with their own business, some were walking in groups, others were in a hurry to get somewhere....everything appeared to be moving faster than she could ever give up.
She entered her room, noticing by different colour of curtains that she had neighbours whom she assumed had arrived earlier that day.
She dragged her feet into the living room and threw herself on the Sofa. She had to wait for the results to be announced so that she could set her computer up and call her parents. suddenly the cell phone she had forgotten rang..."Hello,who is this?"
"Hello Leseli, it's Mr Shale from the embassy. I guess you didn't catch my name yesterday. please meet me at the main gate in 5." The phone was then hung up.
Leseli hurriedly put a flat cap on and hurried to the gate. The sound of her mother tongue sounded so fresh to her ears.
The gentleman was still alone, but he informed her that they wanted her to visit the ambassador and his family for those two days. She politely declined stating that she had some catching up to do.
"I thought you might just say that. Take this,I brought you some dishes so you won't be home-sick on your first day. I have also called your seniors and informed them your presence and gave them your room number. Be vigilant little girl and make us proud."
"Thank you Mr Shale, I pray to live to your expectations."

1.Some argue it's sour porridge but there is a vast difference between the two.
just thinking of years to come, I feel home-sick already. The little girl seems to be holding just fine.
I hope no disappointments in the future little girl.
