Chapter 4: Wings of the Wrong Color

New Haven

October, 25, 2014

The night she came felt darker than an average one. The air lay still, it was dead silent. The earth seemed to stand still, the only thing that let you know you were alive was the brisk cold of that night. That night was the harvest festival. I had brought my little brother with me to the town square to participate in the activities, That is when i saw her.

New Haven, Missouri was a small town. One of those places where everyone knew everyone. So it was odd seeing this girl that I had never met before. My little brother must have thought the same thing because he decided to run up to her without a care in the world.

"Hey lady." He said as he did, I was following close behind.

"I am so sorry. He's only five and hasn't learned any better yet. I'm Josh." I explained. She smiled at me kindly.

"It's alright. I have a little sister of my own. I know how kids are." I had a sigh of relief after hearing that.

"Let me ask you..." She continued. "Do you believe in Angels?" It was such a strange question. I didn't know how to respond to her. Just then I noticed she wasn't smiling anymore. In fact she looked angry... I took my brothers hand and began to walk away from her. He went along without a fuss, but it didn't end there. I looked behind me and saw the girl was following us. I started to become afraid for our safety so quickly I picked up my brother and ran into the woods ahead of us. Once I thought I was far enough I sat my brother down to rest. Everything was silent for a while. I'm not sure how long but it didn't last....

"You know pale face will be here soon, you really shouldn't have run." Turning to the voice I saw the girl had caught up to us.

"Who is pale face?" I muttered under my breath. The girl smiled once more.

"He's an angel..." She laughed with a dark grin. "And he's coming to New Haven again."

I felt a chill down my spine.

"Again?... What do you mean? Why is he coming?" I asked.

"To feed, he's been here before New Haven has had a long history with suicide and murder among other things." She laughed again.

My eyes widened as I quickly turned to my little brother who was now in the arms of what looked like a man with a pale white face. His eyes... They didn't blink... I turned back to the girl in tears.

"Let him go!! What kind of angel eats children? That sounds like a demon to me!!" I cried. The girl looked toward the man whispering something over and over I could barely make it out at first but her voice grew a little louder with each time she repeated it. "Wings of the wrong color." She said it again and again. Suddenly I heard my brother scream I turned back to see his now lifeless body lying on the ground.

"What did you do to him?" I screamed. The girl walked over to the man and held his hand.

"Pale face feeds on their soul, trapping them in an endless nightmare. His victims relive the same nightmare over and over again for all of eternity."

Tears fell from my face again...

"What do you gain from this? How can anyone be this evil!"

"Gain? That's silly. Pale face is my dearest friend. She explained. Just then I began to grow dizzy and lost my balance I don't remember what happened next I just remember waking up in my bed the next day. I looked out my window wondering if it was all just a bad dream but I saw something to prove otherwise. I saw the neighbor from next door walking to school. He has a little sister... I looked toward his house and saw the pale faced man walking in the distance following him. Was he the next victim? It has to be stopped.
