Rhosyn POV
It was a bitter cold morning as Rhosyn grabbed a wood log and placed it in the small fire within the stove. It was still dark outside as she grabbed a kettle full of water and placed it on the burner to boil. A shiver racked her body as she pulled her shawl closer around herself to keep what little heat she had. The burner glowed a smoldering red, as it grew hot. Steam slowly began to rise from the kettle spout. Her eye caught sight of a candle sitting beside the stove she picked up a wood splinter and placed it on the burner watching as it caught on fire, she lit the candle by the stove and slowly moved around her cottage lighting the rest of the candles. She softly sighed as she looked around her dim lit cottage, shadows loomed over everything as she looked at her kitchen across from her and her dining room table to the right, while behind her the fire place spat and crackled. A lion skin lay in front of the fire. Laying on the skin was Graver, curled up in his dog form. He laid in front a fabric chair covered in blankets, with a side table beside it. She glanced back towards her kitchen as she heard the kettle whistle. By her dining room table there was a small door way that led to her room and a chamber that held an iron bath tub to wash in. She closed the burner and poured the water into the tea cup. Slowly stirring the substances, the water began to turn a slight yellow pink hue, lemon filling her senses. She took a small sip, letting the water scald her tongue as she swallowed it, warming her from the inside out soothing the pain in her low back. Taking the cup, she set it on the side table as she moved the blankets around her shoulder and sat down, facing the untamed fire. Feeling the warmth soak into her body as she sipped her tea. She glanced at Graver watching as he breathed in and out slowly, deep in sleep. She smiled as a memory came upon her.
"Rhosyn! You and Saffir stay away from that embankment I tell you!" a voice yelled from afar. She looked at her younger sister and giggled.
"We will Mam!" Rhosyn called back.
"I'm warning you Rhosyn." She slammed the cottages back door.
"Rhosyn are we still going to mam?" Saffir asked.
"Of course, not Saffir. I promised, didn't I?" Saffir grabbed her arm as she smiled up at her. Rhosyn quickly glanced at the cottage windows, to see that no one was watching.
"You ready?" Rhosyn asked as she looked down at Saffir. She nodded in response. "Run" She grabbed her sisters' hand as they began to run through the tall green grass, as the sun shined above. They laughed and giggled as they tripped over their long maiden dresses. As they began to near the embankment they began to slow down. Saffir let go of Rhosyn's hand and ran towards it, disappearing out of sight. Fear spiked through Rhosyn's stomach as she ran after Saffir to find her foot hit open air and she began to fall. Realization hit, as she began to fall and tumble down the dirt embankment. The tall grass concealed the edge, Saffir didn't see it and fell. Rhosyn could her Saffir's sobs as sticks, and twigs grabbed ahold of her dress, twisting and turning her around as she became caught up and pain filled her body. A sharp stab through her lower back and chest as she came to a stop beside Saffir. Rhosyn gasped for air as the shock radiated through her body, leaving her breathless. She slowly sat up and looked at her sister. Saffir's hair was pulled out of its tight bun, dirt smug her face as tears cleaned streaks down her cheeks.
"Saffir, you okay?" Rhosyn whispered.
She nods, "I think so." She stammered. Rhosyn pushed herself up, hissing in pain, she worked her way towards Saffir.
"Let me see." She bent down and felt Saffir's legs, Saffir whimpered holding back tears in her eyes.
"Saffir, please don't cry, look at me. I am going to look." She slowly lifted Saffir's skirt revealing a protruding bone from her thigh, blood gushing around the entry wound. Dark purple swelling began forming around her knee. She glanced up to see Saffir crying.
"Your leg is broken. I can heal it; however, it may be extremely painful; but you'll be perfectly fine and fully healed."
"Do it. I trust you." Saffir placed her hand on Rhosyn's face.
"Very well." She ripped a strip off the hem of her skirt, tying it around a stick and handing it to her.
"For you to bite into, so you do not bite your tongue or scream loud." She saw fear and pain lining her face and eyes as she hovered her hands above the protruding bone.
"Iacha" She whispered. A loud snap echoed through the ravine. Saffir bit hard into the branch, her screams muffled. Her leg slowly knitted back together, leaving a small red mark on her thigh. Saffir removed the branch from her mouth. It was stained with blood.
"I bite my tongue trying not to scream, but it healed as well." She looked at Rhosyn with wide eyes. "You're a witch. Thank you."
"I am not a witch Saffir. I do not know what I am. I beg you to not tell Mam about this." Rhosyn begged. Rustling came from behind Rhosyn, she knew it wasn't something good by how Saffir's face went paler. She slowly turned to see a mountain lion snarling at them.
"Stay very still. I'll get us out of here." Rhosyn whispered.
"Know any attack or vanishing spells?" Saffir weakly sad.
"Of course not! I only know a few words, and that is mainly healing." Rhosyn whispered harshly. She slid a dagger from her under skirt.
"Where did you get that!"
"Took it from Da's office."
"That is stealing Rhosyn!"
"No, simply borrowed it in case something like this happened." Rhosyn remotely said.
"You..."
"Saffir shush! Not the best time to argue!" Rhosyn raised her voice, shutting her up. Rhosyn returned her attention to the lion. Noticing it was pacing around them, keeping an eye on Saffir. It felt her weakness, she noticed as the lion was entirely focused on her.
"Worth a shot." She grabbed a rock to bang against the dagger as she moved to the running river behind her. The lion's attention slowly left her sister and came to rest upon her.
"Come here Kitty, Kitty, Follow me." As she continued backing towards the river as it followed her. The water touched her heal and filled her shoes with water, soaking the hem of her dress, stopping her. She glanced behind and saw the river bottom dropped off; making her take a step toward the lion. The lion noticed it had corned its prey, hunching down and pouncing towards her. She ducked as the lion flew over and landed in the running water, with a splash. She scurried away from the river and onto the bank, turning around to see the lion swim to shore, shaking the water off its coat. It hunched down, and a low growl came from its throat as it launched into a sprint. She backpaddled, tumbling to the ground. Pain rippled up her back, reminding her she never looked at her own injuries. The lion jumped, as a scream ripped from her throat, closing her eyes waiting for her doom. She thought she also heard Saffir screaming with her. Nothing came. She cracked open her eye to see a large wolf growling in front of her. The mountain lion roared at the wolf. It didn't back down as it growled back, haunch raised. Slowly the lion lowered itself and took off running away. The wolf turned her. She gasped as she saw the inhuman eyes, a shade of deep blue with green shooting throughout. They were beautiful. It took a step towards her, as she tried to scramble away, gasping from the pain. Rhosyn eyes widen as the wolf began to shimmer slowly turning into a man. His chest was bare and muscular, he wore tight black pants and no shows. His face had a sharp look to it, dark black hair fell around his facing giving it a soft edge. He was stunning.
"I am not going to hurt you." His voice was soft silk with a strength behind it. He raised his hands up in the hair.
"What are you?" She whispered.
"A Mimica."
"What is a Mimica?"
"We morph into what we wish to be. I prefer the wolf." He took a step forward. She flinched as she tried to move away.
He paused, "I won't hurt you." He slowly raised his hands, so she could see them
"What is your name?" She whispered.
"Graver, Gwarcheidiol Graver," he said, "And yourself?"
"Rhosyn Asbri." She watched his face as emotions she didn't recognize flash across his face. "Did I say something?"
"No, My Lady, I have been looking far for you." He grabbed her hand and knelt in front of her. She screeched trying to pull her hand from his. "I have been searching for many years to find you. I am your Gwacheidiol. Please forgive me." He slowly brought her hand to his mouth where he bit into her flesh, making her world go black.
Where am I? She thought as she slowly woke to a knock at her door. She glanced towards the window.
"Oh dear. I must have fallen asleep." She wrapped her blanket around her shoulder and went to the door. She wondered who would be knocking at her door this early in the morning. She flipped the lock and opened the door. A man in the shadow stood before her.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Rhosyn? May I come in?" It was Zerith.
"Of course." She stepped aside allowing him in. She watched as he took his boots off, trying to remember how she knew him.
"Rhoysn?" He asked, noticing he had a worry look on his face.
"I am sorry, I am a bit foggy. You woke me." She moved to her chair and grabbed her cup, dumping it in the sink. His familiar hands drifted down her shoulders to her elbows, kissing her shoulder.
"Another sleepless night?" he inquired. She simply nodded. She noticed him eyeing the Tea mix.
"The pain came back." Was all she said as put the tea away.
"Did you have a flash back?" She felt his glaze on her back, as she turned to stared at Graver, curled in his wolf form by the fire. Since that day, he was by her side protecting her.
"Just old memories as a child." She decided to say and gave a soft smile to Zerith, hoping it reach her eyes. She stared into the fire, as she recalled what she learnt that day. Her parents sitting on her bed, with a grim expression. She still remembers the words they said, as clear as it was that did. You're not our daughter. A stranger dropped you off on our door stop, begging for us to take you in. You do not belong with this family.
"Rhoysn?" his voice brought her back.
"Sorry dear, how was your night?" she looked at him, giving him her full attention.
"The carpentry guild is trying to find a leader, and they are wanting me to step up." He smiled. She could feel the excitement radiating off him. She smiled at him and sat down on the couch. He sat beside her and pulled her into him.
"I am proud of you Zerith. You always wanted to be chief of a guild since you were a little boy." She mumbled as she felt her eyes getting heavier. She really did want to hear what he had to say but was just so tired.
"It's okay Rhosyn. Rest, I'll be here when you wake up." He ran his fingers through her silky thick hair. Drifting her off into darkness. Zerith look down at the wolf on the carpet, feeling hate towards the beast. Keeping his eyes on it as it shifted to the man known as Graver.
"You are a pain in my ass." Zerith stared at Graver in distaste.
"I know what you are planning, and it won't work. I know who you really are." He stated as he crossed his arms over his chest staring down at Rhoysn curled up in the vial man's arms. Just need to wait till Gale, Telsa and Aria leaves the temple and meets him and Rhoysn at their uncles, to claim her as his mate fully.
"You can't prove anything or do anything about it without hurting her. I've got you pinned." Zerith sneered. You wish you bastard, Graver thought. His ears twitched as shouts came from the forest lines. He quickly looked out the window and saw torches and pitch forks. He whipped around to face Zerith.
"What have you done?" he snarled. He reached and grabbed Rhosyn jolting her awake.
"I've done nothing!" Zerith opened the door seeing the mass of people. He was stunned. Graver took the opportunity to slam the door shut, locking him out of the cottage. He looked over his shoulder at a stunned Rhosyn.
"Quick, the emergency bags are under the board that the table is sitting over." He told her. Zerith banged against the door, yelling to be let in. Graver felt the anger radiating from the door.
"But, what about Zerith?" she felt stunned at what was playing in front of her. He felt anger at her devotion to the vial man.
"Leave him out there, I'll explain on the way. Get your things and get to the stables. I'll follow you." He grabbed one of his emergency bags he prepared since moving into this cottage. He saw her opening the floor boards, removing the bags, and going to the door. He followed her to the stables. Listening to the noise coming from the front of the cottage. The horses were saddled as they attached their bags.
"Where are we heading to Graver?" Rhosyn asked.
"We are going to head to your families' estate. North of here." He jumped on his horse and took off.
Rhosyn shook her head and followed him.
The pain was to much. Two days on the run trying to get to her families' estate without a break was too much. Even the horses thought so. Graver wanted to put as much distance between the town and them. She sighed as she loosened her grip on the horse reins as blood rushed back into her hands. She heard rushing water off in the distance.
"Graver we need to stop and rest. The horses need a rest" she urged him. He glanced back towards her and nodded. Pulling off to a grassy patch by the river. They groaned as they dismounted. She noticed the horses going towards the water to drink. That not a bad idea she thought, as she hobbled over to sit at the river to get clean.
