Chapter 11: One night in years ago ( The First Fire - Part 6)
Aran who running as fast as he could suddenly stop on the track. The uneasy feeling getting stronger by seconds. He was thorn between two choice. Should he continue to run and try to seek the help from Chief Gikan?
If he arrive at Asiago Village, the journey itself might take half a day by walk. More importantly, is Chief Gikan willing to help them from...fire? Ambush? He himself doesn't grasp the whole situation before, since his grandfather urge him to go Chief Gikan.
Or maybe he can just turn back briefly so he can explain easily to Chief Gikan and at the same time he able to check the welfare of his grandfather and the village. After all, he doesn't run far yet. At least if he just turn back to just for the sake to check it, it might ease some of his uneasy feelings.
Instead just recklessy rushes headlong to his house. He take precaution by climbing the highest tree to grasp the whole situation. Almost every house was burning in fire. Except two house which is his house and Erin's house.
But apart from the crackling fire, he can heard nothing else. Previously before he ran, he still can hear some screaming sound. Where is everyone? Is grandfather somehow successfully manage to control the whole situation?
Since only his house and Erin's house still in good condition, there is a high probability everyone that still alive has been assemble in his house. Because not everyone can go along with Erin's family. Feeling more exhilarated, he climb down and run towards to his house.
Not far from where he climb down the tree he start smell an awful, acrid odor mixed with coppery, metallic components and some indistinguishable stench he cannot recognize. It's a smell he once smelt before but he cannot memorize when he experience it.
The closer he reach home, the smell getting stronger and then he saw many corpses scattered on the ground. Some die due to suffered heavy injured, some of it because of burning injury.
None are alive whenever he came across. The joy he felt earlier long faded and the uneasy feelings feeling return tenfold.
He entering the house using back door that connecting to the kitchen, and sensing someone approaching, he quickly hiding in one of the empty cabinets. Aran hugging his knees to accommodate his body inside such a narrow space. There is a small crack at the door of the cabinet he currently hiding right on his eyes level. But still, it limited the coverage area that he can see.
That someone is getting neared and Aran tries to stabilize his panting breath. From the overall black garments and body build, that person looks like a full grown adult man and he frantically is searching something the way he rummaging the available drawers in the kitchen.
Who is that man? What he tried searching for? Is this guy responsible the chaos happen in outside? Where is grandpa? Why he let outsider breaking their house? Is grandpa is injured right now?
Aran try not to think too much about the worst case scenario that might happen to his grandfather right now because this time he himself is in deep trouble. The intruder is walking nearer to where he was hiding at this moment!!
