"Good Evening dad. Eyan it's been a while. Hey honey..." Alex arrived greeted the family and walked to stand before Zunnie.
He kissed her on the cheek and whispered softly, "You look beautiful baby."
Zunnie blushed and returned the compliment, "Husband you are quite dashing yourself. Let me buy you a drink later."
Alex chuckled next to her ear then said, "The drinks are free, but I'll take a kiss and more later."
His warm breath sent Zunnie's heart racing. She couldn't help but admit that Alex always made her heart thump whenever he whispered in her ear.
With her flushed face, she glared up at him unable to contain the embarrassment. Alex always teased her. Staring at him she saw the taunting look in his eyes; she playfully stuck her tongue out and regretted doing it immediately.
Alex pulled her behind the huge plant next to the door away from prying eyes and planted his lips onto hers. He licked her lips tasting them, then pulled her bottom lip into his mouth and sucked on it.
Aware of what was happening, Zunnie kept tapping his arm to stop but he ignored her. Alex found her tongue and fondled it with his. He pulled it between his white teeth and lightly bit it. He kissed her as if he had not seen her at all for the day.
When she was finally able to pull away, a handsome Alex was grinning at her. She wanted to scold him but couldn't. He looked too cute grinning at her, it melted her heart.
She reached her hand around his neck and kissed him passionately then stepped back.
"You're being naughty darling. Someone may see us."
"Sorry, I couldn't help my lust. Remind me later what it feels like to touch you." Alex smiled while he wiped her smudged lip tint.
"Umm, you might want to go fix that; does my face look okay?" He pouted his lips toward Zunnie.
"You're as cute as ever," she giggled as wiped a smudge of lip tint next to his lips.
When Alex let her go, she hurried to the washroom and got her lip tint fixed. She was hurrying back to find her family but was stopped by a familiar face.
"Ahh, why do I feel like we're always running into each other?" The person asked her.
Zunnie smiled politely and replied,
"This is only the second time we're bumping into each other Mr. Maule."
"Please call me Carson. You're standing out tonight, beautiful."
"Thank you, Carson. Enjoy the ball." Zunnie replied and excused herself. She couldn't stay to chat because she had to go back to greeting guests.
More persons had arrived, and the ballroom started to get lively. After an hour of welcoming more guests, they exited the doorway and joined the ball. Her father went to speak with old friends and Eyan left to find his girlfriend.
Zunnie was left alone. She scanned the room looking for her hubby but did not see him. The crowd had grown twice it's size from the time she came in.
She wondered whether San had arrived and if she would be able to find her. She set the glass down and proceeded to walk around the room looking for a familiar face and chatting with the guests.
No-one was wearing their mask since it was one of her father's rules. Masks were not to be worn until they were asked to.
Getting tired from walking she was on her way to find a seat when her father's voice echoed over the microphone.
"Welcome, Welcome…Good evening beautiful ladies and handsome gentlemen. Let us begin the festivities. Please put your mask on. Earlier everyone was given a number, the staff will help you line up; men to one side and women to the other side. The person standing before you will be your partner. Our wonderful musicians will play us a tune and men please ask your partner to dance. Shall we..."
After Wan Bai finished speaking the noise level increased. Zunnie pulled out her number, it was twenty-three.
Having to dance with a random person made her heart race. She walked back to her spot and patiently waited for her partner. Deep down she hoped it would be Alex.
She looked around but couldn't tell who most of the people were. With the dimly lit lights and masks on, she had a hard time recognizing the same guest she had welcomed.
Zunnie groaned within as she nervously waited. Almost everyone had a partner, yet she was left standing alone. She glanced toward the space before her and sighed.
No-one had filled it yet.
"What a relief she mumbled. Hope it's not some strange person."
Just as she turned around to walk away, happy she had no partner, a strong hand grabbed hers.
The person said nothing but she could tell by the scent of his cologne that it was him. Her lips curved into a smile as he spun her around to face him.
"Sorry I'm late…" He said in a husky voice.
Her body began warming up and happiness filled her heart. She flashed him a sweet smile and said,
"If I knew it would be you, I would wait forever until you came. Hi darling…"
